Hello everyone,

First of all I want to thank everyone who helped me with my graphics card question.

Here is another question.  I need to update my monitor (a 10 year old Samsung Syncmaster 172n).

My budget is $250 + tax. I want an IPS/PLS panel (for color reproduction family photo for editing).  I would like to multi-task (2-3 windows open at the same time).  My desk is very narrow, so I am close to my monitor.

Here are two monitors I have narrowed my choices down to (I hope the links work):

1) LG 29um57p - I have a rain check allowing me to get this monitor at $200 once it is back in stock.  This is a 2560 X1080 pixel, 29 inch ultra widescreen (21:9) display.

2) Acer G257HU smidpx  - Which I can get for $250.  It is a  2560 X 1440 pixel, 25 inch widescreen (16:9) display.

Based on my understanding from the display wars calculator  the 29 inch display is not that much larger than the 25 inch, and the extra pixel count of the 25inch display might allow similar overall workspace since I could work in smaller fonts.

Which of these two would you choose for Logos reading/studying and general photo editing?  (Or would you suggest something else based on my $250 budget)

In Christian love,

Michael

I have this monitor and absolutely love it for Logos use. It was my primary reason for purchasing, and $200 is a steal!

Thanks, John, for your owner input.  That's always good to have.

This is the one I would choose primarily because of its higher resolution.  Of course, a lot depends on your eyesight and how much you wish to display on screen at the same time.  I'm currently using a 27" monitor at 2560 x 1440 and can display three pages of my sermon on screen at once with MS Word viewing at 125%.

Thanks Charles,

Here is something to think about, using two monitors.

I have this with two 27" (about $150 each), and I have lots of screen real estate for Logos, a word processor and more.

I would also encourage a two monitor option if you could stretch your budget a few percentage points, even if you reduce their screen size. That's the arrangement I have most of the time, and I feel a little starved for screen real estate when I have to go back to one monitor.

Of course, two 27" monitors will be bigger than the LG 29" Ultra Widescreen. But in reality the 21:9 ratio is like having two monitors without the screen break. Its all preference of the individual, but I have been more than happy with the LG 29" Ultra Widescreen

(I also looked at two monitors before I purchased the LG 29" Ultra Widescreen, and in fact purchased the LG 29" Ultra Widescreen over the two monitor option).
