Library Management:break up monographs

Monograph is too much of a catch all type. May I suggest breaking certain types out from it.

eg. to create a collection which looks something like I would expect from a shelf of monographs I have to use the very complex: type:monograph -perseus -novel -commentary -title:"Lexham" -title:"book of common prayer" -title:"Nicene and post" -title:"Workbook" -title:"Outlines" -title:"a treasury of great" -title:"sermon outlines" -quotations -illustrations -title:"works of" -edition:ebook -questions -every -title:"Sermons" -atlas -map -devotional -title:"Volume" -collected -title:"questions" -title:"History"

In this "monograph" collection I have 404 books whereas I have 1652 monographs...

Also I've never managed to find a suitable filter to exclude novels without excluding all vyrso content. I'd like to include vyrso 'pop' theology but exclude novels.

I agree, and you have a great idea if it is implementable. If it involves re-tagging 50K resources, I expect it won't happen (at least for a while).

The counter-argument will be that you should use the Subject field to get more specific. And that can certainly be done. Nonetheless, I'd like to see (as you've specifically suggested) that Novels be their own category of monograph, at a minimum.

This is a great suggestion. These are all useful categories that are clearly distinct from the typical scholarly monograph.

We've had a case in for this for a while. We plan to better align the resource types in the software with the ones on Logos.com.

We just rolled out our first new resource type: Systematic Theology.

This makes a lot of sense and will allow users that have not tagged their libraries and/or created complex collections to easily add sections to their guides and make targeted searches. For those of us who have tagged and set up collections we can easily compare what we have tagged with the new types by selecting heading Mytag in our library and then pressing the shift key and selecting the heading Type with the library in detail view.

As to the difficulty, logos.com already has many of these resources categorized already. Just look at the Collector's Edition and scroll down the list of resources. They are categorized.

This will assist new users and those do not have the time to tag their library to utilize a targeted approach to their studies and use of Logos similar to my outline here.
