Hi, do you have Bible and Spade Magazine in your Logos Collection?

I have all years 1972 - 2000 but not 1984, 1985, 1986.

The ftp server has 2001-2005 on it also.

The product page at http://www.logos.com/products/details/2850 says all versions 1972-2005.

I tried downloading the extra files and scanning them but I don't have a license for them.  Should I?

It seems like we may be short some issues.  I don't see any update product for the extra years either, and I enjoy reading it but I don't know in what resource I got it.

Thanks for checking your collection!

Bible and Spade started in 1987 (check that issue [vol. 0], it is the "premier" volume). I conclude that the date of 1972 is a typo on the product page.

I wonder if 1987 was a restart of the magazine - I definitely have 1972-1983 in my library.

I checked their web site - there were no issues in 1984-1986, see here: http://www.biblearchaeology.org/publications/bibleandspade.aspx

So here's my current question, how does one get 2001-2005 unlocked, since Logos has them on their server?

Found it!

There's an upgrade CD if anyone is interested, magazine issues 2001-2008 for $49.95:

Yes, the Bible and Spade CD should give all the issues from 1972 - 2008 (except when no issues published 1984-1986).  Those early issues from 1972 to 1983 are in TJL vol. 8; 1987 - 1995 are in TJL vol. 7, and 1996-2000 are in TJL vol. 6.  But to get 2001-2008, you have to buy the Bible and Spade CD, in which case you also get all issues.

If you already have copies via the TJL CDs then you can get a significant discount on the Bible and Spade version 2 CD from the publishers (GS).

The early versions 1972 to 1983 are volumes 1 to 12 with file names GS_BSPA_01 to 12.

When the magazine was restarted with a new publisher in 1987, it was started again from volume 1, so 1987 to 2008 are volumes 1 to 21 but this time with file names GS_BSP_01 to 21.   File sizes of the most recent 10 volumes are a lot larger because the publication was switch from black and white to color.

Hi,

Since, I owned all these resources, I have decided to spend a some time to check my Bible & Spade Licenses to get the facts as correct as possible for all.

  • 1972 - 1983 Vol   1 - 12 (GS-BSPA_01.lbxlls - 12) - part of TJL8 / TJL10/ B&S /B&S v2
  • 1987 - 1995 Vol   0 -   8 (GS-BSP_00.lbxlls - 08)    - part of TJL7 / TJL10/ B&S /B&S v2
  • 1996 - 2000 Vol   9 - 13 (GS-BSP_09.lbxlls - 13)    - part of TJL6 / TJL10/ B&S /B&S v2
  • 2001 - 2005 Vol 14 - 18 (GS-BSP_14.lbxlls - 18)    - part B&S /B&S v2
  • 2006 - 2009 Vol 19 - 21 (GS-BSP_19.lbxlls - 21)    - part B&S v2

We should have a total of 34 Volumes from 1972 -2009 (with a break from 1984-1986, and restarting with Vol 0 in 1987-why?), I also noticed that metadata information for 2006-2009 do not have series:"Bible and Spade" - already reported in wiki.

PS: Sorry, did I break any rules for posting galaxy site here, I cannot find it on Logos website anyway Surprise.

Yes: it is a little confusing.  Here is what I currently understand re the availability of Bible and Spade volumes:

The TJL10 CD contains TJL volumes 1 to 10, TJL11 and TJL12 are supplements to TJL10.  Earlier versions of TJL are included in TJL10.
(Prior to TJL10, as I understand it, TJL5 contained volumes 1 to 5, and TJL6, 7, 8 would have been supplements.)
The above are all listed on the TJL page at http://www.logos.com/products/details/3582

Bible and Spade Volumes 1-12 were published from 1972-1983, it ceased publication after that - was resurrected as Archaeology and Biblical Research in 1987 (the mysterious volume 0 ?), then reverted to the older title Bible and Spade for subsequent volumes, 1988 to date. The interim change in title messed up the continuity of volume numbers and for reasons not obvious to most of us, when they reverted to the original title they decided to start again from Volume 1.

TJL10 contains the first set of Volumes 1-12, and the second set Volumes 1-13.
TJL11 and TJL12 do NOT contain any additional Bible and Spade volumes.

To get the most recent volumes of Bible and Spade, 2001 to 2008, Volumes 14 - 21, you need to get the Bible and Spade version 2 CD, which contains ALL the volumes, not just the ones you are missing, but which you can get at an "upgrade" price if you have the earlier versions via TJL10 or otherwise.

The download upgrade available on the Galaxie web site contains ONLY, volumes 19, 20 and 21 (2006, 2007 and 2008) and is NOT intended for those who want to get the additional volumes after TJL10.   It is intended for those who want the additional volumes after the Bible and Spade original version 1 CD was released (which contains all volumes to 2005).  The original version 1 CD is the one listed at http://www.logos.com/products/details/2850

If you aren't sure if you have everything, you can compare your list of files in your resources folder with the files on ftp://ftp.bible.org/galaxie/libronix

Bible and Spade was a black and white journal until 2003 when it began being published in color.  This makes the most recent files quite large for those with a slow internet connection (68MB for vols 19+20+21).

Trying to get all this sorted out is one of the reasons I am keeping my Logos 3 version on my system alongside Logos 4, as it is more difficult to ensure you have all the licenses if you get rid of Logos 3.

I recently purchased that upgrade from Associates for Biblical Research (the publisher). I installed the files in L3 and in L1.2.2 for Mac, unlocked them, synchronized license, scanned the resource folder, and updated resources in the command bar. So far, they have not appeared in L4 Mac or Windows.

My Bible and Spade updates are available to me in Logos 4 (windows) following installation via version 3 and syncing.  Jack, did you try the Logos 4 "Sync Now" command ?

Thanks for the suggestion. That is one I had not tried, but it has no effect. I guess I will have to wait till Monday and call Customer Service.
