Dear Logos,

Will you be price matching the deal going on with the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary, Old Testament?  The deal is now $4.99 per commentary.

Do you guys even read about the sale before you post?  It's an e-book edition sale that's why there are 14 volumes as opposed to five volumes in the Logos edition.  Besides it's been discussed a gazillion times Logos does not do price matching.  We all wish they did but they don't.  Why?  I'm sure others might pitch in, but for now take my word for it - no price matching!  In fact do a search on price matching in the forums  and you will get the answer in the millions of threads written about the subject 😉😒😬🤔🤓🙄😴

DAL, please be patient with others.

I am, I'm just informing them, that's all (informing again -- at least one of them - the other seems like one of our newbies that needs to know that's all) :) patience is exercised by repetition or else i would've given up a long time ago ;)

Thank you for thinking of me and being patient with me. As you can see I don't get on the forums here too often so I was not aware. Now I know...

It doesn't hurt to ask and be hopeful. Just because they haven't done price matching in the past doesn't mean that they won't change that in the future. ;-)

As a UK resident I find the whole price matching issue strange. In the UK it is illegal for the publisher to determine the selling price. They can run promotions obviously, but the reseller is free to sell at whatever price they determine. This obviously encourages price competition and resellers will certainly look to match any promotions competitors are offering - irrespective of whether those are publisher promotions. I appreciate it is different in the US.

Yes, I am not sure where DAL is from, but here in the US, price matching is a regular thing that businesses everywhere do to stay competitive. I am hopeful that an actual Logos employee can answer this specific question, as that's what the OP has asked for when he said, "Dear Logos" :)

Plus, my understanding is that this isn't even so much price matching as it is simply passing on a deal that the publisher is offering. When a publisher cuts their profit on a sale, doesn't that leave margin for a re-seller to cut too and benefit by getting more sales on the same profit margin for them?

Logos resources are under different sorts of licensing agreements than other kinds of eBooks. I am unaware of any time FL has offered publisher deals on LOGOS editions (Vyrso resources are different) EXCEPT for some recent Zondervan titles. I am unsure why that is the case, but Z seems to have more control over the prices than other publishers. In any case, FL has never "price matched" (meaning matching a competitors price, as opposed to offering a publisher deal).

Again, the liscensing agreements are different. A Logos resource ≠ an "eBook". It is an eBook license with additional benefits and responsibilies with FL "value added" tagging and/or formatting.

The answer has been given before by Logos employees, how do you think "most of us" know ;) ?

Ps. If you want a price match, then go to walmart, Best Buy or Home Depot - but as others have mentioned, Logos is different. Wow, I wonder where Logos is from? Bellingham, WA must not be American soil,  because here in America price matching is a common thing. They must be Canadian (no offense intended for our beloved Canadian users)  😜

Phil Gons had this to say on a similar request some time ago:

Phil Gons (Faithlife):

Zondervan treats ebook distributors and Bible software platforms as two distinct categories and usually runs different sales at different price points.

"Price Match" as a term seems to be a hot button.  Maybe we should have a fresh, less volatile term like "We would really like to buy from Logos and if the price was a little closer to what the publisher makes available to other eBook sellers, I sure would by today!"

Maybe that is too long winded. and we could shorten it to CHEAP (Can you Help us Enjoy A better Price).  OK, I am not good at this.  Someone do better.

It seems curious if a Publisher would discriminate against a significant contractor by undermining their sales offering discounts to some, but not all.  But, what do I know of such things?

It seems like Logos could sell for any price they wanted.  But again, what do I know?  Selling at a loss might (or might not) be bad business.  Obviously I don't have a business degree.

So let's stop saying "Price Match" and just ask if Logos can match the price--or at least get in the ball park.

For the record, I like low prices, muchly, but don't balk overmuch at Logos pricing.  Some are up and some are down, but overall, what an incredible wealth of material at prices I never dreamed of years ago.  I remember many years ago drooling over CBD catalogs hopelessly. Logos changed all that.  Thanks!

What is the distinction? FL doesn't "price match," nor do they "match the price" of other retailers. IMO it is a waste of time and confusing to new forum members, which is why I chime in so often. In VYRSO, on the other hand, if you see a lower price somewhere else, check a couple more stores prices. If it is the same low price, create a thread in the Vyrso forum and ask if they can look into it to see if the publisher will extend the offer to the Vyrso store. Make sure to check, however. Don't waste the Vyrso team's time if you haven't checked, else they may be less inclined to help out. Wink

In Germany it is illegal for the vendor to determine the selling price. The publisher sets the price, and all vendorsmust sell the books at that price. (For that reason German books usually are cheaper in the UK than in Germany!)

That much for all the efforts to consolidate laws across the EU...

Sorry Gau, but that's the reason it doesn't work. You're pushing the meaning of "CHEAP" to advance your own agenda by addind too many words. How about just coming to grips that with Logos you Can't Have Everything APriced somewhere else LOL that's closer in meaning, at least in the Logos books market 😜 Don't get me wrong, I, too, wish there was price matching, but unfortunately for the better or worse for us and the company is not happening and may never happen. Hence, accepting the reality that is not currently available is better for everybody's own sanity. Look at how many threads with the same question have been opened. Almost every week we're crowding the forum with the same request  or suggestion that we know what the answer is. That's why even FL employees just ignore it because they've already given the answer. I'm sure if anything changes, they'll be the first ones to tell us. So those who would rather hear it from a FL employee, call them up or search the forums until you find the answer that's been buried with a bunch of other threads about the same question we already discussed. Anyway, not picking on you...just wanted to throw my own meaning of "CHEAP" which seems more realistic at the moment ✌

I like your CHEAP comment, better than mine :) You are right, what you say makes sense.  So, I'm off to my corner to read my books.  Cheep...cheep...cheep.
