Thanks for the reply, Mark. I must say, though, I might be more baffled than ever at the whole product line differentiation. The link you kindly provided compares "Feature Set" components of Logos/Verbum "Cloud", not Logos/Verbum "Now", but I assume you know what you're talking about, and these are in fact the same thing, at least for the purposes of feature set comparison. I was under the impression that "Cloud" was some kind of entry-level, web/subscription-based product, yet it appears to be considerably more robust (again, feature-set wise) than the Logos or Verbum "Full Feature" sets.Fair enough - if Faithlife wants to require a secret decoder ring to understand their offerings, that's their business...

However, looking at the minor differences between the two "Now" offerings, they seem to be making it overly difficult to get full mileage out of one's library resources, at least without having to buy both "Feature Sets", or  "Nows", or "Clouds", or whatevers. If I had joined Verbum Now instead of Logos Now, I would not have the new dataset for Bullinger's Figures of Speech, which is, apparently, only available in "Base" packages, which nowadays would mean either a Logos (but not Verbum) Feature Set, either by itself or with a "Library" - or with a Logos Now or Logos Cloud(?) subscription/membership. But the product page for the book itself says it is included in a "package" called "Verbum Cloud: Premium" (!!), although the product page for that "package" provides no confirming information - and frankly, has little more than snazzy pictures and colorful buttons in lieu of real information.

I agree with you about the confusing naming. The Logos/Verbum Now membership includes the following:

  • The Logos/Verbum Cloud Feature Set
  • Discount offers
  • Monthly resource previews

So Logos/Verbum Cloud Feature set is Logos/Verbum now minus the special offers.

It's actually possible to rent the Logos/Verbum Cloud Feature Set for $89.95/yr, saving you $10 on Logos Now membership (except at the moment Now membership is discounted anyway, so there's no point).

I confess I'm mystified as to why Bullinger's Figures of Speech didn't make it into Verbum Now. It's not been addressed on the forums. I think the person to shed light on that would probably be Louis St. Hilaire, He's already commented on the thread earlier, so perhaps he will see this discussion and throw some light on it for us.

Bullinger's interpretative take is sometimes strongly at odds with Catholic teaching (notably at Matt. 26:26), so I decided that having it show up by default, and without context, in the information panel, didn't make sense for Verbum.

If you're purchasing your feature sets and want everything, dynamic pricing makes the additional cost of acquiring both the Logos and Verbum feature sets pretty trivial. Unfortunately, we don't currently have a similar solution for Now subscribers.

That seems most reasonable. I at least will happily do without.

I picked it up earlier by buying the Logos Full Featured Set for under $5.

Average Joe:

There is the same issue for me with regards to the Catechism as well (and perhaps for other resources, but that one jumped out because I definitely know I own that one).

Since the Verbum page isn't even up yet, I imagine it will get worked out in due time.

I've purchased the upgrade, and it actually does add a second copy of the Catechism.  The original one is called "Catechism of the Catholic Church (U. S. Edition with Glossary and Index)", and the new one is just "Catechism of the Catholic Church"  They have different copyright dates.  The US Edition is copyright 2000, and the other is copyright 1997.  The 1997 edition is missing the Index and the Glossary, as the title implies.  Perhaps this one is able to be purchased by those outside the US and Canada??

That makes sense. I'm not sure about the Index, but I know at least the Glossary to the Catechism was an addition made by the USCCB and is not officially part of the Catechism. That could very well have been what made the world-wide rights a bit more complicated.

I'm happy to see that the Catechism is now available to all customers. It's definitely a key resource for the Catholic audience.

Still working through it in my head ... I think Mark mentioned it but I can't find it ... Base Package = Library + Feature Set

I am a Verbum Now member - I assume that I have all the Features.  When I am looking at the Verbum comparison I am being presented with the following:

It says Base Package Family on the screen.  Am I seeing the pricing for the Library resources only?  Or do I have to go somewhere else for that?

Yes. No.
