SHotchkiss:

If I buy now I save $45.00 due to spending 90.00

In 11 months I pay more.

True, but the key, I think, is why?  Does the Now discount change?  (I guess anything is possible, but that aspect is not making sense to me.)  If I am a Now subscriber and I am offered a 25% discount today to buy 7 Features, what advantage is there to a 25% discount in month 11?  I think the answer is that there are 7 Features + 7 releases of new Features (6 week iterations) ... but still at 25% discount.  Yes, there may be more out-of-pocket but you have more Features.  No?

I know myself well enough to bet that I won't be able to renew when the time comes. But I wanted to try Now too!

So why not wait until month 11 of your Now subscription to own?  In other words, why do it at the same time ... Now and own?

I bought the starter feature set now to decrease the FFS price later. But I don't want to wait too long to get the full set because if I "can't" renew Now, then I certainly can't get the full set! I shouldn't be spending so much money on this software when I don't have a decent savings built up.... lol

A Logos 7 Feature Set will be discounted to Logos Now members at 25% off of its regular (or your Dynamic) price.  This offer is unlikely to change in the the foreseeable future.

The Logos 7 Full Feature Set already contains all the resources it will ever have.  i.e. If you purchase it the day before we release Logos 8, it will contain the same resources it contains today.

One of the advantages of a Logos Now membership is that the new features that are released on a 6 week cycle are made available for you to use. Those features become part of Logos 8, not part of Logos 7.

I get the "savings built up" part.  Been there.  Yes

So .. "too long" would mean at the time the Now subscription has expired.  Correct?

Today you have Now and the $20 Feature Set that you own.  (You own a subset.  Nothing new or different.)

What does the FFS cost before expiration?  In other words, what's the difference?

Aren't you paying for what you own and what is new?

Honestly, I realize that I'm kind of paying for the 7 Features twice by getting Now and the feature sets. But curiosity compelled me to get Now while I can afford it, and I hope I can get enough discounts and stuff to make it worth it. But, I don't want to have to rely on being a subscriber in order to be able to stay somewhat up to date.

Thanks for all your comments and the comments of others .. Glenn's most importantly.  I'm somewhat confused as usual. It's helping me as well to talk through everything.  I understand your reasoning now and that is what I wanted to explore.  Alabama and Mark Barnes have provided much.

Thank you, Russel.

SHotchkiss,

You raised an really, really good question at the top of this thread.  Thanks for doing that!  Smile

We've heard the replies and questions ... and more replies.

What say you?  (I need to hear it. I'm not done until you are.)

This all has me wondering: Will someone who owns the FFS for L7 pay less to own the FFS for L8 (when it comes out) than someone who does not own the FFS for L7? If so, that might be additional incentive to buy the FFS just in case one might think they'll eventually let their Now membership expire.

Presumably yes.

I have been at work offline and not able to check my dynamic pricing. In the second reply Russell pointed me to https://www.logos.com/products/search?q=feature+set . Prior to Logos Now my dynamic price for FFS was 129.xx . Just now when I checked it, having bought LN, it is $121.xx. So the 25% off may not be quite 25% or other dynamics changed the equation. I was expecting about $32.00 less. Probably agree that other relies lead me to think I should no worry about buying for now.

If I am sticking with LN keep in mind that my original question had some other parts.

Can I tell in my list of 3,000 resources which will disappear in a month?

Can I view a list of what resources are new to me?

Though we don't really know how much less.

Check out the Feature Set product page. If you choose the New To Me dropdown, it will show you.

That what is on the product page on the web site, I mean in my library that has been downloaded. I scrolled down through that and really can't tell what they downloaded to me. Well Except for the items from the other religions of the world set thing. Their names were all so strange they stood out.

Features don't appear in the Library. They show up in the interface menus. Like the Tools and Guide menus

Probably needed a separate thread. I had a message that my Logos 7 had download about 102 resources. 40 or so were that other religion stuff. I think some were new interlinear or updated ones. I think maybe we get a mEd. I really don't know since I closed that window. If I have the downloads for 30 days I would like to find them and try to read them. Scrolling through all these I just can't tell what is new. Sometime on my phone the icons are missing for new items but then the icon shows up. I can sort of note from there. I think there was a book on Theology.

For the new library resources, you can sort it by the Last Updated. Also you can view the License Type. The Temporary licenses are the ones you are looking for.

You probably have to right-click on the column names to make the License Type column show up.

Excellent. I had to go to Details view of the list. Then I could use Last Updated to see newest and License to see temporary.

Thanks to all for taking the time.

As I see it, the two main benefits of LN are:

  1. Access to all current features plus new features as they're developed.
  2. Potential savings on future resources.

I've decided I don't want to depend on LN for access to the feature set, and as a lay-person, I don't know that I'd be as likely to buy as many resources as someone who's vocation is ministry, and therefore I think I'm also less likely to save enough in resource purchases to cover the cost of LN as is someone in vocational ministry.

Because I don't like the idea of renting forever and never owning, coupled with what I see as an "iffy" potential for saving enough on resources to pay for LN, the LN option is just not as compelling for me as it is for others who can justify perpetual rental based on the benefits they get with early access to features coupled with the savings they may well  experience as a result of more resource purchases than I would make.

Now... if LN was set up as a rent-to-own model in regard to the feature set, I would definitely give it a try, even if I had to pay a little more in rental fees before finally owning the feature set.  But to rent the features for an extended period of time and then still have to buy the features if I discontinue LN, without being reasonably confident that I will save enough in resource purchases to at least cover the membership fees just does not leave LN membership very compelling for me.

BOTTOM LINE:  I do think LN is a wonderful option for many people, but less so for many others.  But I'm very thankful that Faithlife is offering such a variety of options for its customer base.  More than ever before, it seems to me there's a good option for just about everyone.

Thank you Faithlife!

The key here would be that FFS was already discounted to some extent for you before you bought Now because of the introductory sale.

In the Library View, add the License column and sort by type. The temporary licenses are for things you don't own; it should be fairly straightforward which ones (this month, Modern Christian Theology and a bunch of eastern religious texts) are from Logos Now.
