Last year I picked up a subscription to Bible Study Magazine for super cheap and also a Logos Cloud subscription. Does anyone know if we'll see the same deals  this year?

I saw that. But oddly, I have 2 out of the 3 books and the one I didn't have was full price after a $8 discount. I am not buying it, but thought it curious.

Since Supernatural is allegedly an abridged version of the unseen realm, I wouldn't actually mind a bit steeper discount. $10 less, and I'd be in for it.

It's a pricing error. Hopefully FL will identify and fix the real cause, instead of merely correcting prices on a product-by-product basis.

It is also my understanding the Supernatural is very similar to Unseen Realm but I'd love to hear that confirmed by someone who has read both.

I have read  both and they cover the same "stuff" but from a totally different perspective and with a totally different tone.  The Unseen Realm is more "hotsy toty" with bigger words from a "scholarly" perspective.

I think you should get both as the material is (for me) so very revolutionary.  It  will be the same for you if you come from most mainstream traditions.... actually giving real credence to angels as rulers working with us plain old humans.  The words are right there in the Bible and threw me for a leap (and a loop) which was 50 years in the making.

I hate to say it but the concepts in these books have changed my life drastically and the way I look at the Bible.  Silly little supernaturally confusing tidbits which I glossed over for decades now have real meaning.  As a result of this insight (which I am still trying to integrate into my thinking and study) the Bible has significant new meaning to me.  Be prepared.... I now study 5 to 8 hours a day looking at things I never saw before and enjoy every second of it.

My big problem with the Unseen Realm books is that many of the sources Dr. Heiser cites are not available in Logos at all.....to get to the real source materials for much of Unseen Realm is a hard job because it is simply not available from FL....and therefore not integrated into your study tools.  I would hope that someday the source material for his books would be available as a package especially since he is a big shot at FL ....I would sure buy it as I do not relish making private books.

Be prepared to be shaken up.  They are different enough that you will be blessed by each.

Bless you all,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on both books. I've had the Unseen Realm on my wish list for a while now, and it sounds like Supernatural will be a good introduction to the more weighty material in the "scholarly" book.

I appreciate the time you took to explain yourself and your journey reading these books. I have read the Unseen Realm and many of the resources on Dr. Heiser's website and am still pondering on much of what he said. My specific question that I still don't know is whether his latter book "Supernatural" would add any new information or just explain it in a more simple way.

Every review I have seen says it is a simplification, with some of the implications made a little more explicit.

Unseen realm is great. However, I'm really not impressed with the Black Friday deals this year from Logos. I really don't buy into the Black Friday consumerism mentality, but I do generally look forward to some great deals from Logos. Not this year I guess.

Perhaps it won't be as good as previous years, but there are still two more days of deals, arriving tomorrow and Sunday.

If Logos gave me free signed first editions of the books by the "Unseen" author AND ALSO PAID ME to have them in my Logos collection - I would politely decline.

So you have read them?

Bruce, I read Unseen and was provided a preview of Supernatural with Logos Now. I would say that if you understood Unseen, you would not get much out of Supernatural. If you had difficulty with Unseen and wanted to approach the same topic matter from a different perspective, then Supernatural may be beneficial.

Right. So Unseen is the only book in the bundle I need then. I'll hold off and wait for a better deal.

I had the opportunity to hear a Messianic Rabbi speak about Jesus in the Passover. I came away from that discussion about the Seder with a respect for topics I had never been exposed to in my Christian denomination. It affected my reverence of God, and changed the way I pray and worship.

Some ANE beliefs might seem strange or unnatural to us, since we weren't a part of that time period, culture or heritage, but we have a lot to be thankful for concerning Judaism. How gracious, how wonderful, that we have been grafted in and made partakers of God's promises and salvation.

There is a supernatural realm. God does rule and reign. We could argue over an author's work, but what really matters is whether that person is our brother or sister in Christ, because any divisions over denomination or doctrine or belief or interpretation will pass away. One church, one body, united in heart and mind. No spots or blemishes. Eternity with God.

Until then, I wouldn't mind if Logos paid me, because I could use the money to help pay off my payment plan with them. Smile

I was very pleased to get 53% off of ' The Jewish New Testament Commentary.' It is a nice companion resource to ' The Complete Jewish Bible ' which I already owned. I also picked up a good deal on a Verbum resource. Verbum is also offering the Early Church Fathers Special Catholic Edition Collection (37 volumes) for $0.00. Surely that is a pricing error. Looking forward to the Christmas sale now!

That might be normal expected behaviour - it's meant to be free if you own the standard edition - the two editions are basically identical, bar some introductory material. The problem was that you wouldn't get dynamic pricing for bundles that contained the other resource, so Logos made the alternative option free (so Catholic edition owners get standard edition or vice versa).

Yes. "The Early Church Fathers comes in two versions, Protestant and Catholic. Simply put, the difference is that the Protestant edition contains additional front matter written at a later date. There is no difference in the actual ECF text."
