James Smith:

Thank you, Kyle. Any idea when it should show up in my library?

Fr. Smith

Yes. I'm targeting it for August 7 when we push out our next batch of resource updates.

It would be it's own resource. I'm guessing not that many people would be interested in the old codex, but it is relevant to understanding the 1983 codex.

Dear Kyle, Thank you for the reply. Somehow, I had missed it until now.

Dear Kyle,

I've just gotten an update, but I don't see the 1917 Code of Canon Law in the list of updated resources nor in my library. Has the resource been delayed or have I missed it?

It's been delayed by a day. Sad

The resources are done and are ready to go out but we missed our morning cut off. We're planning on pushing it out tomorrow morning.

It's still good news that we should see it imminently, though. Thank you!

Downloaded yesterday into my library.  Smile

Thanks for all the work on this resource. I know it's been frustrating at times, but it's across the finish line now.

Links relative to the 1983 CIC are very much appreciated.  I'm not sure I read that in the product description, so it's a pleasant surprise for me.

Thanks again!

Kyle, thank you very much for this. I also really appreciate it. It's an excellent resource.

Is the 10 vol. Commentary on the 1917 CIC going to be ready anytime soon? I may be starting dialysis soon and it would make interesting reading while I'm having my body filtered of heresies.

I would suggest starting a separate post as this is a different topic and resource set.  Including a link to that resource set would help facilitate discussion.

I am grateful to have the 1917 code now available in Latin and English. There are some areas of functionality that are missing that it seems from the above comments are intended but not yet functional. I'm wondering if there was an update on the following issues:

  1. The ability to type in the canon number and have the book scroll to the appropriate milestone
  2. The footnotes in the 1983 code that reference the 1917 code should link (allow popup on hover, etc.)
  3. I should be able to prioritize either the Latin or English (Ed Peters) as my "preferred CIC 1917 resource"

When the 1917 resources were released, the comment was made that "the datatypes are done." I would assume that there would therefore be a "CIC1917" datatype that would allow all of the above to happen. Any timeline for all this?

Number 4 on the list would obviously be the ability to link the English and Latin in separate windows so as to scroll the two resources in unison like other resources with a common index.

Fr. Shawn P. Tunink:
The ability to type in the canon number and have the book scroll to the appropriate milestone

This requires that a dataype be created for the milestones. I assumed that would be done as it has been done for most of the church documents. If it had been done, we would see it under "indexes" in addition to the current "page".

You can see the difference here where the document is correctly indexed:

Fr. Shawn P. Tunink:
The footnotes in the 1983 code that reference the 1917 code should link (allow popup on hover, etc.)

This would have been a major manual effort since the 1917 code was not completely indexed, leaving it without the reference points used in the 1983 code. But if the indexing is added to 1917 then adding the 1983 links back to it should be easily automated.

Note that Trudel, P. A Dictionary of Canon Law. London: B. Herder, 1920. [LLS:DICTCANONLAW / 2014-10-07T15:11:36Z / DICTCANONLAW.logos4] should also be linked.

Fr. Shawn P. Tunink:

IIRC prioritization depends upon datatypes so that this should follow if the earlier basic issue is addressed.

By default, a resource in the priority list can catch hyperlinks from any resource, in any range, with any of the milestone indexes it has.

This is again dependent upon getting the correct indices built. At the moment they would scroll on page number :-)

I'll register a complaint/request on this issue.

As mentioned earlier this needs data type support. I've completed most of the work to make that happen but have run into a few problems on getting it supported in the App.

Once it gets supported in the App, the resource will be updated and one can scroll and navigate  by canon number.
