Mark A. Smith:

Pam Larson:
Maybe if you sign up for Logos newswire you'll get the same e-mail?

Your posting made one assume that anyone could get in on this. Otherwise why post it? Therefore my question on discovering it wasn't the price on the web site.

I get the newswire. I was offered the BDAG/HALOT bundle which Logos should know I already have. I also have Word so don't need that.

My email said nothing about this being limited or anything about it being a private offering (couldn't be too private since they offered me something I already have) so I posted the coupon code for the BDAG/HALOT in another thread).

I think it would be terribly naive for Logos to think sending a mass email out and trying to keep the con tents secret would work. But whether you choose to post the coupon code for other or not is your decision.

Guys if you signed up for the March Madness email distribution list, (which I did a few days ago)...you will get these notifications. It is not a private list, just a notification of the sale item and the code. I signed up from the original March Madness post...this is open to anyone and everyone; if you want to be notified and recieve the code you have to sign up for the "March Madness".

I signed up for the March Madness email distrubution list, and I was already signed up for newswire, but I did NOT receive either the Word or the BDAG/HALOT emails and coupons.  So you must be wrong about that.

Same here - I did (sign up) and I didn't (receive the offer emails).

Same here, I'm signed up to March Madness and not heard a thing about these offers... I would definitely be interested in both, but I have just splashed out on NICOT/NICNT so the good lady wife may take a little persuading... Smile

Good grief. Let's let Logos defend themselves everyone. There is nothing private about this sale. Here is the only line in the whole email that says anything about the offer (the BDAG/HALOT offer I got):

"This is an exclusive offer, and you won’t see this price on the product page."

Exclusive does not mean private. It requires the special code, that's all. If they meant private they could have used the word.

It doesn't say anything about a limited supply. It doesn't say anything about it being limited to those who receive the email.

As I said, if Logos expected secrecy from the email they sent out, they would be incredibly naive. They aren't naive. They didn't expect secrecy. If anything about this bothers them they can post and tell us. They haven't so far. They can also ask for secrecy next time or give codes that only work once.

So my counsel is to relax, use the code if you want the resources, and thank Logos for being generous.

BTW: Logos emails often take over a day to reach me after others get them so more emails may be going out to those who didn't get them yet.

I don't know about that; as I did recieve a March Madness email for the WBC, but haven't recieved any concerning BDAG/HALOT. Like Mark said it may take a day to get to me or you.

Now from a pure speculation standpoint, I already own the BDAG and CHALOT, maybe the offers are tailored to what you own already? I don't know, but I do know that it is not anything private about it.

Mark,

Thank you for the thoughts.  I really knew and felt (in the back of my mind and heart) that this was not Logos intent.  There are just a couple of thoughts that i have and guess I will need to talk with Logos about on Monday....

Why are not the "mass" emails coming to me....I have tried to request all forms of contact for offers

I may not be able to get this as I spent my wad on Platinum from OL, the Hebrew and Greek Video set, a few other books and I have gotten a few other Pre-pubs that I want as well.

The point  to me that it is a little strange how "mass" offers like this are not really mass....How about a quick page of book sales on the Logos Website?  I have been searching there for stuff and nothing.  If this is truly a mass sale....why not have word come through the homepage in L4 itself?  (for those that request this type posting...How about other forms of  contact?  Do they do offers like this on Facebook or Twitter?  What about snail mail to current users of Logos?  Once a quarter?  Now that we have forums.  Maybe something like     Logos Book Sales?  Instead of the following....

Do you have a code on IVP collection then? I just bought it... And it would be sad to know that it has a code.

That's kind of ironic. The promotion should attract people to buy things but also make people regret on buying that before.

So, whenever I buy things in Logos, should I wait until it has a discount on that?

Interesting quandry.  I purchased Word Biblical Commentary from an individual for a "great price."  While I was waiting on the mailman to deliver it Logos put it on sale for the same price. Almost the same thing happened with Anchor Yale Bible. Now I can respond toi these experiences a couple different ways:

1) Never buy anything until it goes on sale (I don't like this idea because I don't have use of the resources while waiting.)

2) Get mad, bitter & suffer the angst. (Not rercommended.)

3) Quit looking at the current prices of items I've already purchased. (Hard to do.)

4) Buy lots of titles through Community Pricing & Pre-Pub programs. That way, when I look at my overall investment in Logos resources, I see how much I saved on 90% of everything compared to the rare occassion when a price drops after I bought it. (I must warn you: Wives do not generally think this way so you are on your own here.)

Whatever outlook you choose, you need to ask yourself, "Is my goal to save the biggest percentage I can? Or do I want useful tools in a quality format?"

Yes to both.  The first allows the second. Big Smile

Right you are!  This proves most men are motivated by pride. Why else should we check the sale ads after we've bought  the item of interest?

Well, I will learn from that.

So, does the rule (wait until a big sale) apply to the not-so-demanding titles? What I mean is that the Anchor Bible, Word Biblical Commentary, etc are all very very famous and demanding. For things like Tyndale Commentary, update to Scholar Gold, or Zondervan titles (it is infamous that they don't have discount, right?), there is virtually no chance for them to have a big sale so that I can buy it immediately when I need it?

I didn't actually recommend the first choice. If you choose to wait for sales you must realize not all things go on sale.
Then there is the question of having a resource available when you need it. Some preachers buy a commentary at retail because they are preaching through a series and need it NOW. Seminary students will pay retail for a classroom text because they need it NOW. Sometimes we have the luxury of waiting for the sale. A few have an abundance of cash and don't even consider the price. That is a rare customer among users. Then there are titles that may not be available indefinitely. Barclay's Daily Study Bible is not available for any price.*   A few others have disappeared also.

You will have to develop your own purchase strategies. I've made choices to drive older cars and buy more software. I gave up TV a year ago, recently dropped my second ISP, and sold off most of my guitar collection to free a little more for Logos resources. The only purchase decisions I regret are dropping Pre-Pubs at the last minute because cashflow was tight. My greatest consolation is My Order Summary Page does not list what I passed on, only vwhat I bought.. The super prices I locked in at make me happy.Geeked

* You can possibly get DSB by purchasing somebody's Version 3 license that included it. I think it was part of the ND library, not sure.

Good thing for me is that I will soon get all what I need (after the NIDOTT/NIDNTT is released) in the near future. So I can wait for good deal to invest for far future.

Thanks!

I signed up for the MM emails as well as Logos Newswire and I still have yet to receive the WBC or the BDAG/HALOT offers.  I, like some others here, am just wondering if the mass-mailings are truly "mass" mailings or are they selective?  I, too, think that Logos would not try to send offers to a select few, but I can't help but wonder what is going on.  It's more just curiosity with me, than actually being bothered by it.  I own WBC, but do not have BDAG/HALOT.  I can't afford it right now, but I would like to have the opportunity to purchase items like this when they do go on sale.  I would hate to miss a good offer by not getting an e-mail and then missing the sale because I didn't check the newsgroups...

Very interesting. Today, my Essential IVP Reference Collection 3.0 is arrived, but the SN there is not valid. So I phone Logos. And after everything is done, very interestingly, they said that they have "today's offer" and ask me to wait a moment to hear about it.

After some time, he said to me, "today's offer" is the WBC, he bought that 10 years ago costing 450, volumes are added to it and costing 700 now, but their offer is now 399...

Sorry I'm coming upon this thread late -- I missed it the first time around and only noticed it because someone else linked to it.

Here are my thoughts:

Logos doesn't say you can't forward the email to friends, so in that sense it's not "secret."

WBC is a CD only product, so in that sense it is sort of a "limited supply" but they could always burn more CDs if they needed to.

If it becomes a problem of people abusing the fact that this coupon code has been posted, Logos can always made the code stop working if they want to.

Logos hasn't weighed in on this thread or deleted that post, but that doesn't mean it's because they are fine with the coupon code having been posted. They often can't keep up with the volume of posts on the forum. I think it's more likely that like me, they missed it.

What trumps all the other discussion on this thread is this excerpt from the Forum Guidelines:

Please do not use our forums to

  • sell or give away anything or link to anything you’re selling or giving away—including Logos products
  • promote or link to competitors
  • point people to other places that sell Logos-compatible products
  • advertise yourself, your business, your ministry, your website, etc. (a tasteful link in your forum signature is acceptable)
  • post Logos Coupon Codes. If you are aware of a special promotion Logos is running online, you are welcome to link directly to the promotion.

The reason they came up with the forum guideliness is they didn't have the bandwidth to keep tabs on all the forum posts, so they were hoping people would use self-restraint rather than having to be policed.

I'm not going to tattle to Logos about this thread, but in the future, I think it's pretty clear that they don't want us posting coupon codes on the forum.

Man, I've been hoping Word would go on sale.  Is there any way to get on that e-mail list?  I thought I was already signed up for special offers.

Ron, you may want to call Logos and see if the sales agent can't get you the price.  They are very helpful, and often they can get you a great deal.

Hi Rosie,

Just to clarify...this forum posting was started March 18th which was well before the last bullet was added to the guidelines.

This and facebook coupon codes being posted on the forum in May and is probably what led to the last point that you highlighted above.
Sharing the codes on the forum did not accomplish the purpose that the Facebook codes were intended to accomplish. I believe that Logos wanted more people to become a fan on facebook to get the coupon codes. Especially since having people become a fan gives Logos more exposure to everyone's Facebook friends and gives them free advertising to the people who would probably be more likely to use Logos software. Very smart marketing on Logos' part.

http://community.logos.com/forums/p/17003/128577.aspx#128577  this one was posted in May and I don't think that last bullet had been added yet either.
