Is the CSB available? Will it replace my HCSB?
It downloaded to me a couple weeks ago.
Your HCSB will not disappear.
Is the CSB available?
The CSB is available for purchase HERE. It is currently on sale for $7.99.
Will it replace my HCSB?
It is a new resource, and will not replace your HCSB. It will also not (currently) have an RI associated with it, so "english text only."
They were offering it free to those who have HCSB. You can ask if they still are. It is separate from HCSB.
That was a limited time offer, expiring before its release.
It's currently free on Kindle:

What are your thoughts after using the CSB? After using it for a week, I absolutely love it and feel it is a great improvement over the former HCSB. I am considering using the CSB as my primary preaching Bible for pulpit ministry.
Greg I am using it currently, and have only found a weak spot thus far (which isnt far) and that is Matthew 16.26, it kept the HCSB using "life" rather than "soul". I think this is a weaker translation, but still a possible translation. But time will tell. I like the balance of word for word versus thought for thought. I still consult others to compare (ESV and NLT mainly).
Actually, life is not too off. Soul can be confusing at times. In Genesis, for instance, the KJV reads, Genesis 2:7 (KJV 1900)
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Many people not paying attention believe God put a soul in Adam. Other translation state, Genesis 2:7 (LEB)
7 when Yahweh God formed the man of dust from the ground, and he blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Genesis 2:7 (NIV84)
7 the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
I believe these versions clarify the meaning. Another example, out of numerus ones, is from James. James 5:20 (CSB)
20 let that person know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
Many versions use soul but not all. James 5:20 (HCSB)
20 let him know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his life from death and cover a multitude of sins.
James 5:20 (NIV84)
20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Actually, life is not too off. Soul can be confusing at times.
All my other English translations (at least the major ones) translate it as "soul" in Matt. 16.26. HCSB and CSB are the only ones that went with "life". And my major lexicons all show "life" being a weaker rendering, as the term identifies more than mere biological existence- but gets to the heart of a person's being.
"life" is an option, but in our modern context, I think it misses that deeper, and more encompassing meaning intended by the Greek word psyche. We tend to separate the mind and the body, but psyche gets at the aspect of a person that makes them who they are- in personality, likes, dislikes, thoughts, ambitions and essentially their "person-hood". I don't think "life" communicates that whereas "soul" gets at it better.
