I've plugged Tawil's Akkadian Lexical Companion for Biblical Hebrew Etymological, Semantic and Idiomatic Equivalence before, based on reviews. Today I got to visit a library that had one, really liked it, and it would be of great utility in Logos (especially if Logos also got the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary, which is free online). Lots of Hebrew, Aramaic, verses, and references to link and index.

Until Logos bows to my suggestions (humor, friends), Amazon has it marked down to $30 instead of $125.  Stick out tongue It says "1st edition" but I can't find information anywhere about a revised or 2nd edition.

Thank you, Ben. Plus, Amazon dropped the price an additional 2 cents after I put it in the cart. I'm so happy.

Chicago Assyrian would also be good.  I'd hate to wait on it in prepub though.

The paperback has been marked down to $25.73.

Nevertheless, I hope to get it in Logos!

Ben:
It says "1st edition" but I can't find information anywhere about a revised or 2nd edition.

The publishing house only lists a hardcover and softcover version of the same edition. But the review they include alludes to a future edition. It would seem that the author could already envision what he would include in a future edition and the first was published (and numbered as such) with that idea in mind.

For anyone else curious, the book from AMZ arrived. Was going to post images, but Logos not receiving.

- Printing is 2017 1st edition; stated price is $125 hardback, $80 paperback. AMZ was almost $30 hardback.

- The author is pretty transparent on the discussions (doesn't over-connect hebrew to Akkadian, which are not close cousins).

- Book has two sections; words (hebrew, then aramaic) and names. Sort is by hebrew but discussion is english. Very readable.  Each word has its OT references.

- He ref's quite a bit of Logos resources, discussing english Bible translations, the various technical commentaries, and journals. A nice Logos fit.

- No doubt, the area is prone to 'discussion', but he seems to present what's available, without too much forcing.

One article caught my eye ... Prov 30.4 ... 'who has ascended to heaven and come down' which later is used in Eph. Quite extensive ... all the parts of the phrasing are discussed over 2 pages.

I'm certainly no akkadianite but fun reading. Recommended.

Thanks Denise. Apparently, Amazon noticed your purchase and jacked the hardcover price back up to $90, but the softcover is still cheap.

I sent another email to suggest@logos.com suggesting this book, and the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary (which they've made available for free in pdf.)

Goodness. I was a bit surprised, it hit the truck up to our burg the night I ordered. Usually, the volumes are in Kentucky or east.

I really don't know what to say about the Hebrew/Akkadian lexicon. If they put it on prepub, the title will be the death of it. Most people don't associate akkadian and Assyria ... the same period as a good chunk of the hebrew got assembled.  Just up the road from Hezekiah and Co.

But the book is perfect fit. Really down to earth, chatty, unlike HALOT, and crosses much of Logosland. I really need to get ready for family vacation, but it sits in the kitchen table refusing its bookshelf location next to Tsedaka ... just fascinating.

And yes, CAD ... it gets referenced a lot. Appreciate your bringing both up ( and saving me a bundle!).

Hardcover back down to $60, paperback $22. I would have pounced on the Hardcover at $30 if I'd realized the price were so in flux. I've started using Camelcamelcamel.com to track prices. Looks like its on its way down.

Well, this sample of one is an eye-opener for me. I'd seen oh-wow prices before and grabbed them, presuming a publisher-Amazon error. I guess not.

But your original suggestion is still very good. My own perspective is always a physical one ... Akkadian was down the road from Jerusalem. I'd bet northern priests/prophets brought a bunch with them, when Samaria fell, holding on to the past.

The hardcover's back down to $42 (cheaper than the paperback somehow), so I bought a copy this time. I don't understand the pricing strategy or economics involved, but was kicking myself for not buying it at $30. (Retail is $125)

Still wishing Logos would up its game to academics, and get this, the CAD, and some other Assyrian/Babylonian resources.

OK, I failed to turn off my camelcamelcamel notification after I bought my hardcover at $42, so I got notified this morning that the hardcover has dropped to $29Stick out tongue I'm turning the notification off now, so this is the last post I'll make about this resource.

Except once again, would love to see it in Logos.

Absolutely. The physical book is hefty. Being a lexicon, it would be of much greater value in digital form.

Bump. Would still love to see this in Logos, as well as the (free online multi-volume) Chicago Assyrian Dictionary.
