I am interested in studies how different generations receive Truth or think about Truth. What resources would help with that?
I would start with the Factbook article on Truth and see what resources you have linked to that.
In your Library, try a Search for truth NEAR generation? (where ? is a wildcard)
--> Graham provided my favourite starting point, but I realised the Search gave a wider perspective in relation to generations.
Also, look for Epistemology
This is a very interesting question, and not only from the perspective of epistemology (which is how we western moderns have tended to categorize truth).
I find it interesting to me as I am preaching through the gospel of John. John uses the concept of truth in ways that seem to go beyond the scope of truth as we in the modern west (at least) normally think of it. I'm not sure I've got it nailed yet, though some of these other suggestions are helpful in pressing forward.
I'm tentatively looking at it this way, though it's a little fuzzy yet: In the modern west, truth is basically: close correlation to facts. In John, truth is close correlation to the true value, meaning, message, and/or purpose of all God has made. Something like that, anyway. As I read John, his truth always seems just a bit too big to fit in the human mind, yet we can grasp enough of it to reorient our lives around Jesus who is the way the truth and the life, and in so doing find more and more truth. To look at it yet another way, in John the truth isn't something that can be defined so much as something that we lean into, pursue, attempt to put into human language and thought. In the way that beauty or love can't be fully captured in words, so it is with truth.
I realize that this response may be a bit off topic, and not directly related to the use of Logos (though it's the fruit of much study using Logos!). It may even sound a bit mystical or strange to the western ear. But I'm hoping it might spark a quest to more fully understand the the answer to Pilate's unanswered question to Jesus in John 18:38, as part of your quest to answer your question.
I would search out differing world views from ancient to present. And especially search out anything pertaining to eisegesis vs exegesis of the scriptures as the basis for differing Christian world views.
One search idea is looking for generation articles that discuss difference, epistemology, OR truth => https://ref.ly/logos4/Search?kind=BasicSearch&q=(%5bfield+heading%2clargetext%5d+generation)+BEFORE+88+WORDS+(%5bfield+heading%2clargetext%2csurface%5d+difference%2cepistemology%2ctruth)+&match=stem&in=raw%3aAll%7cTitle%3dAll%2520Resources
([field heading,largetext] generation) BEFORE 88 WORDS ([field heading,largetext,surface] difference,epistemology,truth)
Search results are sorted by count. Vyrso has => Generational IQ and => Generational IQ for the Workplace and Home Collection
Could expand search => https://ref.ly/logos4/Search?kind=BasicSearch&q=(%5bfield+heading%2clargetext%5d+generation)+BEFORE+88+WORDS+(%5bfield+heading%2clargetext%2csurface%5d+difference%2cepistemology%2cevangelism%2ctruth)+&match=stem&in=raw%3aAll%7cTitle%3dAll%2520Resources
([field heading,largetext] generation) BEFORE 88 WORDS ([field heading,largetext,surface] difference,epistemology,evangelism,truth)
FYI: appears Bruce R Norman's "Bridging the Gap" is not currently available to purchase for use in Logos/Verbum.
Keep Smiling [:)]
Thanks to everyone for your help. You got me launched into this.
I even came up with hits from "The Origin of Species" and "Sherlock Holmes."
I came up with a lot of journals. Also some books like:
Can you pls suggest some books from ancient to present ? Thanks!!
I think Gao_Lu in the above post provides some interesting possibilities. I did a google search and came up with the following link: Based on Amazon reviews it might be a good place to begin.
https://www.logos.com/product/26735/why-you-think-the-way-you-do-the-story-of-western-worldviews-from-rome-to-home
Keep searching until you “get it nailed”
But I'm hoping it might spark a quest to more fully understand the the answer to Pilate's unanswered question to Jesus in John 18:38, as part of your quest to answer your question.
When someone gets that “nailed” please post your answer to one on the FaithLIfe Groups and update this thread with the link.
Thanks Dave! Probably I was just looking for some books outside of the Logos ecosystem from ancient to present - just to contrast the ‘truth’ ....
Hi Gao:
You could always start with clarifying the conceptual framework for the study you want to search:
The Nature Of Truth John V. Dahms*
In evangelical circles truth is commonly understood to be solely a matter of true propositions
(1985). Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, 28(4), 454.
Armed with the right conceptual framework, then you can study selected persons in a series like:
https://ebooks.faithlife.com/search?query=God%27s%20generals&limit=60&page=1&filters=status-live_Status&ownership=all
It would be interesting to see the time the person lived in, and the contributions that his / her group did.
Then you could read more about initiatives in different generations, and try to see for yourself how they received, thought about truth (within varieties from the article), and what outcome came out of such.
Just a different angle.
Humans have a nasty habit of confusing "truth" with "facts". All kinds of mischief ensue. Even worse is when they confuse "truth" with "history". Yikes!!!
I was reading earlier today that:
We also take the measure of self and others for the sake of comparison. Questions like, “Am I smart?” or “Am I rich?” or “Am I moral?” are answered with, “Relative to whom?” We choose our human yardsticks with care, often assuring ourselves that we will measure favorably by surrounding ourselves with people whose own shortcomings make us stand tall by comparison. We tell ourselves that compared to X, we are indeed quite smart, rich, or moral. But unless our measure of comparison is smarter, richer, and more moral than we are, we will preserve the myth of our own ascendancy. We will believe ourselves to be without rival. And that’s where a measureless God begins to upend our sense of personal awesomeness.
I think we have a lot of shortcomings, but God demonstrates so much love, patience, and long-suffering. If God judged us as quickly as we judge other people... yikes!!!

What a sad recommendation! That’s only one “Version” of The Truth among many ”Versions.” 😂😜 👍😁👌 (Warning: Joke and pun intended).

Hi David Paul:
Interesting concept, could you elaborate more?
Take the ultimate referent and analyze:
1 Propositional truth: (the only non negotiable in my view)
John 14:6. Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
2 Does it correspond to reality? Mastery of the human tragic context (death) does hint at a higher mode of Being involved.
In Roman times, they had networks more effective than Gestapo would have. So the Roman authorities could very easy find the body of Jesus Christ, if it was a hoax. They did not, and the same miracle work that happened before Jesus' death continue happening after His resurrection (so He is the life).
3 God is as ultimate reality: the only Being with Self-existence (aseity), we creatures all derive our existence from His self-existence. So like Ireneaus hinted: Jesus and the Holy Spirit (hypostases of God), are like the arms He uses to bring believers close to His heart. [rough paraphrase].
God is, Jesus Christ is the New Temple of God where the fullness of Deity dwells bodily. We are living stones part of that new temple (body of Christ), that does not make us the Holy Spirit that indwells that new temple).
So God is, His is the ultimate reality, all is perfect in such reality. We are the ones living in a fallen (messed up) part of His Kingdom. When He comes around (hypostasis), miracles are bound to happen because He sets things right for the love for His adopted children.
So God is, and God is ultimate truth and reality.
Thank you PetahChristian for sharing.
Very interesting. Some traditions have elaborated on perfection: relative and absolute.
Absolute perfection: Resurrected Jesus Christ only.
Relative perfection: one of the aims in becoming Christlike.
Notice that Enoch, Daniel, Joseph of Egypt, Paul, John the loved disciple, were relatively more perfect than: Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David, Peter, etc.
We are not to compare to others for vanity, of get puffed with air, but the Bible tells us we must check ourselves, and try to become relatively perfect (under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit), to be worthy of the calling God effected in our lives.
If we are adopted children of God the King, we enter royal family, and we have to walk becoming of our new status.
Ten Commandments, sermon on the mount, Christ mandates, all are checklists, to help us see if our walk to Christlikeness is being effective or not.
But remember truth is that the weightier matters of the law were of much importance to Jesus: Justice, mercy, lovingkindness, Love of God in our hearts Romans 5:5.
Pharisees were charged with missing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the consequent love of God through His presence.
Very interesting topic.
To find truth:
find Jesus Christ, and engage in Christlikeness work.
Hi David Paul: Interesting concept, could you elaborate more?
Not without bugging a lot of people.
