Tommy Miller:

It seems that WORDsearch has a lot of the titles I want that Logos doesn't publish. John Phillips ("Exploring . . ." books), John Butler's (Bio Series), and many others. I never wanted to have my resources in multiple programs, but maybe I should check out WORDsearch.

Tommy, there are several of us who use both programs. It isn't the ideal situation, but some publishers/authors will only license to certain software companies.

Anyone heard an update from Logos on making John Phillips' books available?

Would love to have Phillips commentary set.  I had been with Accordance software before joining with Logos which I am way happier with ... but the Phillips series available for Accordance.

Here link at Accordance ... If they can do surely Logos can.

Chris,

welcome to this forum. I like it that you are more happy with Logos than this competitor. Unfortunately, not all publishers will contract their products to all bible software companies. The publishing industry fears nothing more than electronic books. Those who are very dead-tree-minded (or try to set up their own bible software) may not give the necessary licences to Logos especially because it's the strongest player in the market. Some may want to extract more royalties than Logos can pay. Some may grant one bible software company a (temporary) exclusive contract. Some may want to limit electronic distribution to one channel/platform, wheras Logos wants to give us access on any platform plus the web...

I trust Logos to try to get everything in here that we want to buy and publishers can get contracted to make it available, but Logos a) can't force them and b) wouldn't bow to all outlandish contractual requests. And in the long run, this is a good thing.

I hope they get this resource sooner or later.

Mick

N.B. One thing, while Logos doesn't mind us naming competitors here in the forum, they have asked us not to link to their sites. You may wish to edit your post accordingly (click the more-button a the to right corner over your post and choose edit).

If you can use dual monitors it works well in conjunction with Logos open- I use it with a lot of WS products as well as BibleWorks- DUAL MONITORS great way to save a lot of cash.

Now to prepare for a trashing by the Logos Patrol!

George Somsel:

We must be thinking of different Phillipses since John B Phillips died in July of 1982.  His NT The New Testament in Modern English would be good alongside The Message.  Also his Your God is too Small would be of interest.

I would second that. His Romans 8:18-19 is a classic "In my opinion whatever we may have to go through now is less than nothing compared with the magnificent future God has planned for us. The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the sons of God coming into their own."

His NT translation appears to be at http://www.ccel.org/bible/phillips/JBPNT.htm

while  "Your God Is Too Small"  can also be found on the internet.

This series gets my vote also. Any official word from Logos as to the likelihood these will become available and if so when? I need them and must decide on the format in which to get them.

Wow, never thought I would see the day. Hope it doesn't stay in PrePub as long as Mattoon has.

I hope the renegociate Mattoon's commentaries to bring the price down.  J. Phillips is a welcomed addition to Logos; hopefully, it won't stall like Mattoon has.  Maybe if Mattoon was $200 for both OT and NT sets it would've made it out of prepub a long time ago.
