Thanks Faithlife for lowering the bidding threshold!  However, for those of you already in the auction, PLEASE DO NOT LOWER YOUR BID!  At this point in the auction, high bids make the resource appear to be more valuable.  I have a bid in for $170.  I am leaving it there so that demand at a higher price point remains in place.  Future bidders will think, rightly, that they are getting a steal at $150, or perhaps even lower.

Don't worry.  New bidders will push $150 to be the accepted bid.  At that point, Faithlife will probably lower the bidding threshold once more.  (At that point I will still keep my bid in at $170.)

Hi David ... I am not sure that I agree with the not lowering the bid idea. I suspect that many people stumbling across this CP will not have a clear idea of what it will be worth to them (and how can they? ... there is insufficient information and we cannot predict our future circumstances). I suspect that many people simply look at the green price and go with that, convinced it is a bargain, and and reassured that most people seem to think the same. I have often wondered where the initial 10 'guiding' bids come from, and who decides the price range.

Lowering your bid is more likely to increase your bid point and reduce the 'competing' bid price. Thus it is more likely to achieve the lower price ... so long as you are willing to risk missing out if it 'suddenly' rushes through.

What do you think of Rob's comment? $150 will pay for a basic connect subscription ... with change to spare ... where I could choose this course if I wanted to. Alternatively, I could choose any course in the FL arsenal ... and also have whatever benefits come from Connect. Similarly, this $150 plus the $99 that I was already spending on LN could get me two courses plus even more 'benefits'. I realise that this would be a rental but with so much to choose from, I cannot see myself having the time to review a course ... and I could always choose the same course again.

Is this the end of mEd CP? or at least the end whilst they want $150+ ... instead of perhaps $70. I took advantage of the OT312 CP ... $85 for what now retails at $750. (not that I would buy at that price!) this is $150 with a ticket price of $560. It seems that this is priced in the wrong range, after an announcement that for many would change their potential economic viewpoint.

Martin Folley:

That's true.

If you don't lower your bid, it's more likely that the higher 'competing' bid will cross the line first, making it more difficult to drive the price lower (because it will be closing soon at the higher price).

To get the best price, we would want it to cross the line at the lowest price point (by removing support from the higher prices). Additional new bids will then drop the price even further.

Martin Folley:
Is this the end of mEd CP?

No. FL uses CP for longer (more expensive) courses, when it likely wouldn't get fully funded at Pre-Pub pricing. We will always have Mobile Ed CP (although I wish it was used for more courses, not only the more expensive ones).

Pricing is currently based on the length (video hours) of the course. I don't think providing access to one or two courses per year will affect retail course pricing at all.

Personally, I'm using the opportunity to rent courses I wouldn't have taken otherwise. And FL still makes money from those courses, even though we don't buy them, because we probably need to purchase a few books for the required readings.

I am worried that if it doesn't go down, then a lot of people will bail out.

You can find his classes online, elsewhere, for free.

Are you implying that his class on OT Theology is online somewhere, or just that he has some of his other classes online? I haven't been able to find any videos of "OT theology" online

The recent introduction of Faithlife Connect and, now, the arrival of March Madness may be preventing some forum users from noticing this post about the amazing Old Testament Theology course currently on Community Pricing. The more people who bid, the lower the final price will be. There are surely enough Logosians interested in the theology of the Old Testament (which BTW influences the theology of the New Testament!) to get the price of this course below $99. I started a new thread to highlight that OT300 is currently 73% off, which is a much bigger discount than the as yet unknown winning March Madness Mobile Ed product.

Hopefully it will grab the attention of more forum readers, attract more bidders and therefore lower the cost for us all.
