I am not sure why the Bible speed search is now slow after update to Logos 4.0b SR2?

Well I did the same search in 2.63 seconds. I wonder what else was running on your machine? Maybe a virus scan, or Windows indexer or ??? I typically have only Outlook, either Word or PowerPoint and Logos running at the same time. It is rare for me to have anything that even seems a little slow. I think my Vista machine is about three years old.

Ted,

this might sound weird..but do this..

Restart Logos until it's faster.

People have said that they do that when launching Logos....they keep restarting until it moves as it should...

I know it doesn't make sense...but...

23 results in 0.15 seconds for me.  Something's definitely out of whack with your system or your installation, I fear.

Good luck!

Did same search in 0.25 seconds, so must be hardware or OS issues, no L4. ]

BTW, how do you insert a picture in this forum? I tried with my "SnippingTool" which comes with Win 7 (works great to snip and paste into Word etc, but paste option is greyed out in this box?

Jim,

Adding screenshots requires clicking the file attachment icon (paperclip) in the toolbar of the edit dialog.

Thanks for tip on inserting screenshot. Cut and paste would be easier, but this works.

Bob, I am not sure what kind of "ART" you practise. Is it magic or wizardry - a kind of gnostic knowledge only for the initiated few Big Smile? Look at the result after your suggestion, much improved. Thanks. Ted

This sounds not unlike some type of software memory leak.

I have reported a different problem that caused an out of memory crash as a probable memory link.

Robert and all,

About how many re-starts do you have to perform-2, 5, 10, more?  If I stand on one foot while I am doing this, will it go even faster?      At some point, there has to be a reasonable explanation for this or computer "science" ...isn't.

Joan,

that was my point...there is no rhyme or reason to the users' experiences...there is no "overall pattern" that I can discern....for example getting a faster machine ALWAYS results in a fast experience...nope....not true.

I was only relaying a "work around" that a user had mentioned... :)

Robert,

I didn't mean to come across critically of you or anyone for that matter.  I get FRUSTRATED with computer science and I would love to have an overall pattern that could be discerned.  (Perhaps, medical science is also frustrating for similar reasons.)

I do appreciate your comments and you are so helpful and patient.  God Bless!

Oh yea, this definitely comes under the "light candles and slaughter chickens" heading for software problem resolution.  :)  Sadly, this group of software repair tools often works -  but only when the phase of the moon is correct.

Well, this same search took 1.5 seconds the first time I tried it just now, and 0.27 when I repeated it right after.

Sounds like a memory cache thing for the speed-up in my simple example.

This laptop runs Vista32 and almost always, reports 0 MB RAM free. Windows attempts to use ALL OF IT for buffering, cacheing and all kinds of good stuff. So, if a new application starts, or a running application needs memory, Windows has to first give something else up, to free the RAM, so it can get handed over to the new request. One way to do that might be to just discard a cached copy of something, or swap something out to the page file, and then let the RAM go. All these things take time.

I expect the speed change after restarting Logos a few times relates to these kinds of things, but I have ZERO proof.

In some cases, adding RAM is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to improve a PCs performance. Just saying in case its useful. Also, don't let your drives get too full - they run slower due to defrag issues. Run defrag from time to time too.

I got the 23 results in 0.54 seconds on first try.  On second try I got it in 0.22 seconds.  This was after closing the search pane and opening a new one.  Interesting to me.  Ted, it does sound like something is not right with your setup.  It shouldn't take that long.  You may want to talk with technical support.

Seems like Robert came up with your answer while I was testing.  Isn't this forum great?
