The title says it all. I'm trying to see how to find every instruction or command in the Old Testament that is directed to the nations (gentiles). is this kind of search possible?

Samuel,

You've presented a tall order. I'm sure someone will come around and improve on my paltry offering. Here's what I found:

{Label Command WHERE Type ~ "Well-wish" AND Verb Class ~ "Acquiesce"} OR {Label Command WHERE Type ~ "Well-wish" AND Verb Class ~ "Dedicate"}

Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

Thanks--it's a tall order, but I'm thinking Logos can do this kind of magic right? Big Smile

I'm sure you're right, but I caught such a little fish I was ashamed to share it. Hopefully, KS4J or Dave will reply.

I'm not aware of a good way to search *all* foreign nations yet, but you can easily search for specific foreign nations. For example, you can search for the Babylonians with {Label Command} INTERSECTS {Addressee <Person Babylonians>} . You can play around with that addressee field and collect quite a few probably by inputting Assyrians, Egyptians, etc.

I wonder if there's a way to see the address is a nation (or collective entity) not equal to Israel?

Does this only work on Logos Now? I'm on Logos 7.16 and this search produces no results even if I just reduce it to {Label Command}

Yes, you need a subscription for this e.g. Faithlife Connect

Bible Sense Lexicon has foreign nations

<Sense foreign nation> INTERSECTS {Label Command}

Ugh. This is frustrating to have a higher cost package (and every upgrade for years) but features that don't work.

You may have more success with ({Section <Sentence = Imperative>}, {Section <Sentence = Declarative>}) as these overlap {Label Command}

For example:

<Sense foreign nation> INTERSECTS ({Section <Sentence = Imperative>}, {Section <Sentence = Declarative>})

The fact is that some Commands can be interpreted as Declarative, and not Imperative (and some Imperatives are not Commands). It is very subjective.

I feel you. The advent of a web-based and subscription-based package that is apparently getting the lion's share of development effort is a frustration for us who have invested year over year (or every few years) in upgrades only to end up with a product FaithLife is letting lag behind.

Not to mention that this software in particular is needed in many places where an online product is not helpful and not always functional. Many times I've needed Logos and had no internet connection so I want to stay with the desktop app.

When you upgrade (to Logos 7 or Logos 8) you have the option of getting a Feature Set to go with the Library (books). The Full Feature Set will usually provide all the features available at the time of release, and you need a subscription to keep up-to-date with newer features. {Label Command} is one of those, but Sentence Types is available with a Logos 7 Feature Set. Have you tried the {Section <Sentence = xxxxx>} search I suggested?
