I am doing a search for sources that deal with the canon as scripture.  The results include a large number entries where the subject or the author is a person whose title is "Canon ...". Is there a way to form a search that can filter out these second set of results?

Blessings,
Floyd

Did you try subject:canon ?

Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."

I also did a similar search on a collection of encyclopedias, etc. Again, no results.

My library is conbsiderably smaller than yours.  Here are my results:

... and this still does not answer my original question.

But did you pick up any with "canon" as a title of an office? I didn't and thought that the exclusion was inherent in the search.

what did you get from:

Not when searching the library - but when doing a more general search of the entire library or a collection, I still am seeing the same problem.

Oops, I modified my reply above too late; Didn't this solve the problem within the library?

Did not have a problem searching the library window - but do when doing the more general search within my resources or a collection.  Am I misunderstanding or miscommunicating something here?

could you show a screen shot of your search? When I use  'Bible formation canon' - no quotes or commas I don't get people with canon as part of their title ... and I have a fair amount of Anglican stuff. I suspect that setting Match case would get rid of the title - just be sure you have Bible capitalized.

OK - finally understood.  Thank you for the help.

Is there some way I should have known the "secret handshake" to get this to work, or was it just your extensive experience that helped form a helpful search phrase. Was there something obvious that I missed?

Floyd

No, there is nothing obvious - it's a matter of trying something close to what you want, observing what the "extra/missing" hits are, finding the common denominator and screen for that ... Since I have 30+ years in IT and 15+ with Logos I have lots of experience finding patterns ... but Dave is much better at it.

Must be the LOGOS experience - I wrote my first computer programs in 1966-67 as a junior in high school as part of an IBM Explorer Post. Left computing 10 or so years ago, shortly after I was diagnosed with MS.

Though I would put my start date on LOGOS at 15-16 years ago, I also know you were already active on the forums when I purchased my first LOGOS 3 package at that time.

Again, thank you for your help in tracking down a solution.  Blessings.

Floyd
