Hello,

I have had someone close to me, a Believer, die recently and I believe that I know where that person resides now.

But family members are confused.

How can I search and find whether that person sleeps, till resurrected, or is in the presence of the Lord? And, from Scripture, where do I find those answers? Seems death and sleep become confusing so a definite answer is elusive.

Lane

a starting point is to to search “intermediate state” in the Topic Guide, or in any systematic/Biblical Theology resources you my have.

Well, to start, he/she is 6ft underground 😜

After that, in my view, he is in paradise for now, not in Heaven.  As Stephen mentioned, start by studying the intermediate state of the dead.  Here’s an extremely useful free chart for you to consider:

If you have ISBE, consider this and Eccl 12:7

Dave,

I don't have ISBE but it is on my wishlist.

Yes, Eccl 12:7 is pretty clear.

Thank you,

Lane

Lane McKay:
Yes, Eccl 12:7 is pretty clear.

Ruach, translated here as "spirit", may simply mean natural breath (cf. Job 19:17).
