If anyone thinks I was happy about the loss of function in lectionaries and saints, they obviously have not read anything I posted.

Kevin Olson:

First of all, I love the feel of Logos 8.  It seems faster, and slightly more intuitive.  The tools are very powerful.

The new home page is kind of a disappointment.  I like the idea of the dashboard, but I would also like to be able to turn it off completely, freeing up that space.  The ability to put our own layouts there would be wonderful.

I liked the side panel on the left in Logos 7.  It would have my preferred Lectionaries, and it seems to me that it even showed the readings for the day (as links).  I would love to have that side panel back, and also include the ability to select what is on that.  It would be great to be able to change preferred Bibles there too.  It would be fun to be able to customize the lectionary layouts in some way too.  Coming from a tradition that basically ignores the church calendar, I have grown to appreciate that, but would love to add resources for studying those passages, without having to add them every time I open that layout.

I liked the link in Logos 7 which showed which resources were updated (downloaded), and even had links to the resources.  That seems to have disappeared completely in L8.

I liked the ability to chose what was displayed on the home screen.  I would like to be able to turn off pre-pubs and other offers for purchasing books.  I find that distracting when I want to study.

I especially liked the excerpts of resources in my library.  It was kind of like multiple serendipitous discovery, which was alway interesting.  I have rediscovered great resources from my library through that means.

Overall though, good job Faithlife on Logos 8!

This has probably been addressed by others, but I haven't been able to read through all the many posts on this feed. But I agree that I would like the side panel back as well, for lectionaries, saints, and reading plans. Save the middle area as a work area to launch workflows, layouts, courses, and other tools like psalms explorer. Also, I'd like more control over how the cards are arranged. I'd like to organize things in groups, and would like the option to order things vertically instead of just horizontally. I HATE horizontal ordering, vertical is more intuitive for me. Others have mentioned it but bring back the ability to "choose the preferred bible" from the homepage. I change mine frequently depending on what I'm doing and that was the quickest way to do it.

I have to laugh. I'm not sure you meant it this way, but, you said, "I can safely say that your feedback would not have made any difference to the outcome." I think that was his point.  LOL.
I think I do understand that you mean one person's feedback doesn't make any difference, but collectively it shapes the entire package. Or, maybe his personal opinion didnt matter.

Dave Hooton:

doc:
They only ask fanboys and girls to private beta test and so don’t get honest feedback on whether the software is ready. I used to be a private beta tester but the stopped asking me because I gave honest feedback about things like this and they did not want to hear it.

That is demeaning a number of people you know well from the forums, because the feedback they gave was honest, and passionate at times. And they got equally honest responses... So here we are, and I can safely say that your feedback would not have made any difference to the outcome.

Going forward, I hope that you can provide feedback without getting personal, as 8.1 isn't the end of the line.

Actually, in this case, I believe Dave meant that a large number of beta testers had the same feedback doc had but ultimately FL went a different direction.

Oh.
That could be problematic.
