Batman and David:

I so agree.  I just never open Logos.  I use Biblegateway to look anything up.  And I open a few books.  Too slow, and then stuff jumps around, it's in little stupid boxes too small to read.  You cannot look up Greek or Hebrew words because the search box does not recognize them.

Arggh.  Glad it know that it is not me alone.

What are your computer specifications? That can have a lot to do with the speed. Logos 8 is MUCH faster than L7 in my opinion. I do not wait nearly as long for things.  There have also been people run diagnostics to compare and have verified this is the case on their machine as well.

Can you elaborate on this. A screenshot would help.

Hi David,

What you describe is certainly not normal behavior. Logos will index anytime you do book upgrades. You can pause the indexing at any time if it slows down while using it. You should contact support.

As an update, once I did manual indexing the app is working much better. The slow down I experience is mainly when I start the app but once is up and running it works well. Which tells me that as soon as a replace my current HD with an SSD Logos will rock.

You may want to check on that because I think you may be misunderstanding something.

As I understand it, you never lose what you paid for. When you upgrade, you upgrade the Logos app.

The portfolio that you already own you keep. The NEW portfolio may have additional books and resources. If you choose to upgrade to the new Portfolio you will only be charged for the books you do not have. You will never pay twice for the same books you already have.

You will see a huge difference with a SSD.

Thanks.

I'm not sure who you are responding to here. It's usually a good idea to quote all or the relevant portion of a post you are replying to.

Here is a short screencast in case you are not sure how to do that

Logos 8 claims to be faster.  Is it?  Can you actually find anything with it?  I downloaded basic.  Waiting to restart Logos because it is indexing.  (It said it was 88% indexed but suddenly it is down to only 26%. I think that is all it ever does).

I have to say it is. My old old computer, it took about 6 minutes between start up and ready to use. The old new computer it took about 60 to 90 seconds. After a few months I "baptized" it, and had to get my new new computer. It opens and is ready to usually 20-30 seconds.

I cant say I've experienced the symptoms you are describing. Not in Logos, anyway. I have had to figure out PDFs from my Dr. that are so small you couldnt read it under a powerful microscope; Indexing issues, Ive not had like that, but, I have had similar with "updating" or "preparing" library. Had to call support. As suggested elsewhere, support may not be a bad idea. You might need to even have to give permission to remotely access your computer (kinda freaky, first couple times but, Logos is more trustworthy than most companies) so, you may want to consider that. Logos support is awesome; they had to fix a Windows issue-- which was cool, because, once again, most companies leave it at "It's not our problem", but, they fixed it.

Hoping it works for you.

Well, I cannot take a screenshot of the problem because Logos 8 has replaced my logos 7.  I haven't tried to look up Greek words in it yet.  Don't even know where my lexicons are hidden.

Logos 8 visually looks a bit different than Logos 7, which includes Library icon (one way to look at lexicons).

I never realized that bookmarks were extremely over the top stingy. I never thought this oversight would be possible! I am glad you found a solution. I'm fine with stingy bookmarks for Basic, but if I'm going to pay thousands of dollars, then I expect unlimited bookmarks!

Big Smile 1. I do love the features of Logos 8! I do appreciate all of your hard work! I really want you to know this before you read on.

Crying Logos 8 - and still no Hebrew Bible option in Basic, but many Greek and Latin options? I'm sorry, I did not realise that every single person in the Holy Bible were Latin and Greek speaking people who never learned Hebrew, never wrote in Hebrew and had nothing ever to do with Jews and Jewish language. I did not know that Jesus was against Hebrew and Jewish culture and only spoke Greek. Silly me! Of course the original Old Testament was written in Latin and that the Dead Sea Scrolls found in Hebrew (including Matthew verses were found in Hebrew and not Greek!!!!) are fakes because we all know that nothing is good that comes out of Judaism or Hebrew. (Tongue in cheek trying very hard to figure out why the blatant slap in the face by Logos. I think I know I contacted them concerning this issue before, but that was ages ago and I do not have that email anymore. Oh well. Maybe its my fault because I only dreamt that I contacted them. Its possible! I surely do not expect non-Jews to fix something they are not aware of! ) I so wish I was not a Jew sometimes as I would not even be aware of the problem and wouldn't care that I was not accommodated and that my race was blatantly ignored, yet again, as if every person in the Bible was of the caucasion-non-Jewish race!

I guess I'll have to stick to biblehub.com. They actually have Interlinear Hebrew-English-Greek and its free! Logos search features are useless for the Old Testament without Hebrew! Shinantam in Latin is not the same word! Shinantam means "sharpen" and is a Jewish idiom (the only one I know, fortunately for you.) It refers to how we are to continuously review God's word lest our brain becomes dull. It does not mean teach here, as you have been taught many things in school but don't have to review the vast majority of it. You took the test and then moved on. That is teach. Sharpen refers to knives and how they get used, become dull, have to be sharpened, get used, become dull and on it goes. Knives - brain equal same thing. Both become dull without sharpening them.

Incidentally, this mostly Christian refusal to learn key aspects of Jewish culture, caused them to 100% fail to realise that Yeshayahu (Isaiah in Hebrew) literally means Yeshua-Jesus is Yahweh-Jehovah-Lord. However, let it be known that nearly 100% of the Jews missed it too! In Jewish culture, they teach that we aren't holy enough to say His name properly, why it is "yahu" and not "Yehovah". I believe that its the same with "Yesha" and why Isaiah didn't write his name "Yeshuayahu".  Its only a small handful of Messianic Jews and perhaps, a tiny amount of Christian scholars who caught the translation error (Salvation is Lord). I would never call Ms. Mayim  "Hey water!" Mayim means water, yes. But she is called Mayim. Likewise, I never say "Dear salvation, please forgive me."  ;)

With that said...still, thanks for Logos 8 features that you do have! Cool

I wanted to edit my post because I might be confused!!! If the Lexham option IS interlinear Hebrew-English-Greek, then a good portion of my post is null and void! Just so you know. Wink

Thanks!

Just click the More button and select Edit. You can edit a post within two hours of posting it.

You might also want to take a look at the forum guidelines. The forum is meant to be a place where we can discuss the software. Controversial beliefs about religious groups really aren't meant to be posted here.

Academic Basic includes Lexham Hebrew Bible (LHB). Logos 8 Basic & Verbum 8 Basic include two English Bibles with Reverse Interlinears (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek) that allows corresponding words to be highlighted in search results (plus can use context click for Original Language searches and Bible Word Study)

Screen shot is from my demonstration account that has an order total of $ 0.00 (includes a freely gifted Logos 7 Essentials)

FYI: searching my purchased library for Shinantam found one result in Classic Midrash: IMPRESS THEM (shinantam) in Deuteronomy 6.7

Thankful for Laughter being good medicine. Also Thankful for Forum Guidelines

Thankful for places to discuss theological points: e.g. https://www.christiandiscourse.net/ plus various Faithlife groups => https://faithlife.com

For purchase, Logos 8 Academic Essentials includes more original language resources.

The forums exist to discuss FL products and their use, not to promote anyone's theology or to speculate on what "100%" of any group knows or does not know. Just a gentle reminder to read the guidelines (see upper right of forum's home page) which are often not seen.

Well, truth be told, the latin is pretty recent ... that took some real tooth pulling ... now hoping for some early latin mss's. Hebrew is more curious with Logos. They had an early hebrew interlinear maybe 15 years ago, and then they went back to sleep, until recently with their reverse interlinears. Otherwise, it's pretty sparse ... Ben Sira in hebrew was a challenge.
