Should be coming soon.  (What do you mean by "that have to be changed?")

Do I understand you correctly- you are still using L3?

Yes. I assume you're a relative newbie and prolly never used L3. Notes were completely different...they allowed a full page pop-up with a mouse hover over the note icon (no clicks). Indispensable for public Bible studies. I'm fully expecting that L8 won't rise to that level of usefulness. I'd love to be wrong.

I consider myself a newbie, and I've been cursed (uh, blessed? Stick out tongue) with Logos since L3.
I am FINALLY extremely excited that I have a version I am thinking (hoping) I'll actually be able to use.

I am hoping that L8 gives me what I require to cut ties with L3. We'll see...not holding my breath.

It looks like Ultimate is a game attempt to create an Unobtanium Package. Has a lot of what I had asked for. Not perfect, but a pretty decent package (w/ plenty I'd prefer not to cram on my hard drive). Surprised it isn't listed with the other base packages. I almost overlooked it...came across it by accident. I would like to see a comparison with Collector's Edition.

L8 is the only version I have felt almost comfortable with. I had several Bible software packages prior to Logos 3 and the following packages that left me in near tears when they would not update to work with Windows XP. They may not have been as extensive as Logos, but, at least I didn't have to get a college degree to be able to operate them, and it didn't cost $450 to learn how to use them.  Nor did they frustrate me to no end, And of course, costing between $40 and $100 didn't hurt, either.
Don't get me wrong. I was excited when I first learned about Logos. But the excitement quickly vanished when the "we're not planning to upgrade"  and about 3 months later, out comes L4. And the fact that L3 required a huge learning curve (that I never really learned) didnt help matters any. Then add to the mix I had not been able to keep up with technology, so my computer fell behind times, and everything was slower than a 4 legged millipede on crutches, didnt help anything. Then, I did get an upgrade on the computer, but things were still slow. Adding to that the "every time I opened Logos updates", I became extremely bitter toward Logos. Here I put 100s of dollars into a Bible program I couldn't even use! And everytime I turned around, "Upgrade" begging for MORE money!
When 7 came out, I was furious! Bob probably wished he could hide and rid himself of me, and others like me. But, something changed with Logos. Since I had decided to "give this crappy company one last chance" and upgraded to L6, I received a recent upgrade discount, and going to the subscription route, mistaking it for the other subscription program, with access to a zillion resources, I was happy. L7 cost me very little to  upgrade to. But, even with more and better tutorials, I still found myself not using Logos at a rate I should be. And worse, there was now NO digital Bible that excited me AT ALL. Even buying several hard copy Bibles, leather, hard back, whatever, I have found myself not excited to study any more. But, at least 7 kept me interested. But annoyed. I can literally find passages quicker in a hard copy of the Bible than in Logos, on a relatively fast Bible.
Forward to this week. Logos 8 came out, and for the first time ever, Logos pops up the verse I am looking for practically before I even start typing it in. Ok, that's an exaggeration, but, it's fast enough I dont have to Google it or try hunting it in a hard copy. And once again, I feel the videoas are more helpful, and I am liking the tools much better. I think I can actually start reading and studying again.

Ok, so, that is the loooooong way around to saying I actually liking 8. I'm not exactly sure why you havent gone up since L3, but there are several great reasons I think you might like.
1. Faster.
2. Easier, in my opinion.
3. Since L4 everything gets stored on the Logos/Faithlife servers.
Now I'll admit, I was not fond of that last one, immediately. But, if you ever lost the CD/DVDs from L3, or the serial number, it could be a pain. Also, needing to download the registration/license each time, well, it's just a pain. Here, all you have to do is know your email address, and everything syncs up. So, it really is better, if ever you have to reinstall.

Hopefully you can upgrade from 3 to 8 rather cheaply. By bypassing 4, I had to actually pay the upgrade cost, but, without the library. (Another thing that ticked me off. lol).
There is a difference between L3 and L4 up, but, if you were doing well with 3 (unlike myself) you shouldn't have any difficulties. But again, there are decent freebie videos. Maybe not as extensive as having to pay to graduate from the Proctor University of Logos, but should be ample to do more than the basics.

You may consider the subscription plan, but, it's now at a higher price. But calling Customer Sales, I mean service Big Smile they may be able to find discounts and other ways to upgrade cheaply.

Hope that helps you decide.

Hi Colin

I'm not sure what point you are making. Are you able to clarify please?

Not to diminish any critical feedback, I have to say at least in terms of my expectations and experience is that L8 is the best Mac version ever. (I started with Series X on Windows, but moved to 1.x for Mac when it came out.)

To me what makes L8 great is not the bells and whistles, datasets, etc., but speed and reliability.  There is a clear improvement and I think L8 is a home run.

He originally said that he didn't like the "ads" on the homepage. He provided you a screenshot so that you could see them.

Sorry, I forgot to add the text to my picture. My point is I believe there would be a significant number of people who don't want their Logos Home screens covered by sales. "Pre-pub" this or "Community Pricing" that. And if this doesn't happen to you or annoy you then congrats, but it sure annoys me. If there is any way of removing these ads then please let me know. Otherwise just change the name of the page from "Home" to "Shopping". The Logos 8 Home screen, at the moment, is a bad example of user customisation or personalisation. Maybe it could be called the Home Shopping page. These days a user can pay to remove ads. As I have paid, am paying for this software I don't want to ads in my face. I know where the push comes from and why. Ads brings buyers and putting it in your face on the home screen is more tempting (or in advertising jargon, guarantees more hits). But as I pay, I'd like the ads kept at bay. Is that too much to ask?

Welcome Big Smile

Logos Wiki has => Logos 8 Beta Program information + risks (could join public Beta testing for 8.1 followed by changing update channel to default for future stable releases)

Logos 8.1 Beta 4 Home Page example with "Pre-Pubs" and "Community Pricing" unchecked: (Logos 8.1 Beta 3 added Home Page Explore customization)

Uninformed user speculation for Logos 8.1 Stable release is Mon 10 Dec 2018: if Logos 7 pattern of 4 Beta releases is followed by Release Candidate(s).

I got comfortable with 6, more comfortable with 7 and I feel empowered and comfortable with 8 which is rapidly becoming a friend and will soon get a pet name.

I started with Logos when 4 came out. I've use it all along. I did a full upgrade to platinum in 5. but only used the free 6 and 7 upgrades. I really didn't want the books that came with the upgrades. I have done the full feature upgrade on 8 and am extremely happy. I've noticed some criticism on the resources that come with the full feature. It wasn't made truly clear that all of those were necessary to make the new features work.

I know that FL have made a statement to the effect that you don't have to pay for software. Well the new features in each upgrade are really software mostly. There are new datasets that are really resources.

Well Im rambling. Basically you get what you pay for. And new software and data sets are worth paying for. I know that FL's business model is based on library sales. Well, with most of us that are not "Bookaholics" well maybe not. I think allowing full feature purchase is a great idea. It made me take the plunge and buy 8. I would not have if it was library base package of more that a grand. I would have never paid for an upgrade. So thank you FL for making it possible for me to upgrade.

I own Pillar and NIC and many greek resources. These are all the big purchases that I will make. I will buy an occasional book or books that I can't live with out. So FL best way to my wallet will always be through feature upgrades. So keep it up FL.
