I am reading Lutherbibel 1912 and would like to right click for a definition using Modern Theological German: Dictionary. Is this possible? Ideally, I would like this feature on both the desktop (Mac) and on the app.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Joe

Hi JR:

If you double-click the word, Logos should open the entry in your highest priority dictionary that has that word, which would presumably be your German dictionary. [Edit] If you have the Information window open, it should provide the definition (maybe truncated) when you either single-click the word or mouse-over the word, depending on your Info window options.

[Edit]  In the mobile app, long-press, choose Info, then press Search. One of the hits should be your German dictionary.

If something that basic worked, I would not be asking.

Maybe someone who is not guessing, but actually has this working has an idea.

Thanks,

Perhaps take a real deep breath, and be polite.  After all, Robert does not work for the company.

I have it working for Spanish exactly as Robert M. Warren described. Please put a dictionary with German headwords as an index at the very top of you priorities then use the paperclip to show us what you get in the information panel and dictionary if opened. That will give us the information necessary to resolve your problem.

Hi MJ,

I put MTG as my first book as the top prioritized book, and no love. I even tried to apply this book just the the LB1912. Still no results. Not sure if one of these sources or the other is not tagged for this purpose.

It seems Logos only wants to bring Calwer Bibellexikon: Biblisches Handwörterbuch illustriert into the info panel for definitions.

I also note that if I try to assign MTGD to a specific language in the advanced prioritization settings, only English comes up as an option. Does this mean the book is not tagged for "German"?

One idea is using Headword Search to see what resource(s) have German Headwords.

{Headword Erde}

Apologies since my library does not have => https://www.logos.com/product/33539/modern-theological-german-a-reader-and-dictionary so lack a German dictionary (do have English and Spanish-English dictionaries).

Community Pricing for German-English dictionary => https://www.logos.com/product/55071/heaths-german-and-english-dictionary needs many more bids.

Hi, both resources I have  show up in the search for Headwords so it should work for returning results in the info. panel.

Neither of us are crazy ... however, I would report the resource as in error to Kyle:

The resource is indexed by German headwords which I would post a picture to prove but ... the metadata erroneously says they are English headwords. When this is fixed, it should start working correctly.

Good catch MJ. That would explain the problem (I hope). I have lost track of who is who at Logos so do you know Kyle's last name or how to reach him?

Thanks,

MJ, I will do that. One other interesting note for those who are interested, it appears the tagging in the Dictionary does work but ONLY if one is using it in conjunction with the Modern Theological German: Reader. If I click on one of the words in the reader, it will open up in the Info panel using MTG:D.

Robert,

I apologize for the offense. My answer was curt and direct to the problem, but lacking courtesy.

My guess, and it is only that, is that there is a datatype type of link between the two rather than a dictionary headword link  ...

Kyle has already replied to my bug report and believes the fix should be fairly straight forward. Thanks for helping track down the error in the Logos tagging MJ. Good to see after all these years you are still on it.

There's a new blog series on Logos Academic on working with German resources. The first part doesn't quite deal with the question raised here in the thread, but maybe it will come up in the future.
