I'm happy he got it off his chest. He seemed to just about have a bone to pick with everyone except Spinoza.  But saying the dating can't be mined is uninformed. He'll rue the day (again).

I like to try to see truth in differing opinions. You could help me do this by pointing out any truth you see in the article.

ANY truth??  Are you suggesting the lengthy discussion is one solid frabrication?

He does remind me of Slinky. A toy from the early 60s. It slinks down a series of steps. Then comes to a halt. Then you kind of nudge it again, in which case it slinks some more. Then comes to rest again. By his last sentence, he's exhausted, like the Slinky. We kept ours in his box, else he'd go crazy getting tangled up.

His criticism is valid for what it's worth. Guessing academics, and guessing churchmen. Tooting horns. A largely majority view, and a minority that feels slighted. It's not unlike geology ... competing paper writers, and what to do with yesterday's positions.

Yes I agree with you assessment. It seems to be accurate as I see the state of the situation. Thanks for your reply.

I really didn't mean to say this.

David, I hope I didn't offend you. On the forum, meanings can be not easy ... I apologize.

His article was lengthy, I guess to fit the magazine length target. He kind of bounces around, largely targeting the Penteteuch theories. And he seems to accept the sincerity of even those that propose a late date, across the OT. So, best I can see, he's angry at the publishing world, for favoring anything that's not a conservative take.

And then, he seems to move into academic politics, not source criticism per se ... who gets to publish.

My own view is the conservative take has largely been sloppy, evidence-wise, with the more 'liberal' views taking poorly supported liberties. The whole Biblical academia could benefit from tightening up their logic vs limited data points.

I also believe Biblical criticism is seriously behind the secular world in data analytics.
