Hi,

Does anyone have a solution for me. The M’Cheyne bible reading plan in Logos does not have the correct sequential reading order. The 4 passages have been separated into 2 family and 2 private readings.

For example:

M’Cheyne’s reading plan for 1 Jan:

Gen 1, Matt 1, Ezra 1, Acts 1

Logos’ M’Cheyne reading plan for 1 Jan:

Gen 1, Ezra 1, Matt 1, Acts 1

It may not be a problem for those who read the 4 passages in 1 day, but the plan is designed to have its first 2 passages as a family reading and last 2 as a private reading, and can be divided so that the plan be used over 2 years.

Apart from going back to clicking the books via another tab of reading plan, is there a place where I can download the plan in correct order?

Cheers

David

Hi David,

In Logos 8, the M’Cheyne plan has the Family readings as the first two readings, and the Private readings are the last two. Problem solved. The plan is public domain, so figuring out which reading to read shouldn't be difficult.

An excellent companion to the plan is a two volume devotional by D.A. Carson called For the Love of God. Vol. 1 covers the Family readings, and Vol. 2 covers the Private readings. It's available in Logos, and also in PDF from TGC.org if you search for the title and look for an announcement by Justin Taylor. As always the Logos version is more useful.

Happy reading,

Skip

Hi Skip,

Thanks for replying. Please have a look at my two screenshots. Is there something wrong with my version of Logos reading plan?

thanks

It appears to be so. See here:

Can you provide more details about how your plan was created? Which specific versions of which apps? Which specific operating systems?

I created it on my iPad Pro 2018, it runs Logos version 8.0.8.0005

Okay I figured it out.

It seems to be an issue related to the iOS Logos app. If I generated a M'Cheyne reading plan on iOS app, it will be the incorrect order of reading.

I tried generating on my desktop Logos and get the correct one.

May I recommend DA Carson's For the Love of God devotional if you are reading the MCheyne's Reading Plan. It is based on this plan and is very good.

How do you set Carson's book(s) as a reading plan? When I tried it did not line up with the dates. I could not see anything in wiki. Perhaps you don't set it this way but read as a normal book.

As a "calendar devotional" it is already setup with dates.

Ok thanks but that was easier said than done. I wasn't aware of this type of resource. However having reviewed some training videos I think I have it sorted. When I looked at my homepage there are a number (at least 5 ) of 'devotionals'. Very nice but I never set them up. The problem now is trying to remove them. I have removed them from my preferred resources but they still show on the homepage. Any suggestions?

I should add I am only an occasional user of the software because I find issues (like this) that are not easily solved. Probably my own fault from not preserving but I do not find Logos intuitive like other software (not bible software). I have set a goal of trying to do more this year with it. Using devotions is hopefully part of that.

Thanks in anticipation.

Colin

You remove them from the homepage itself, not from the prioritization list. Are these shown under the "dashboard" section of the homepage? If so, click on the "kebob" icon and select "remove card."

The other option is to do what I do: Avoid the homepage altogether. Wink

Thanks again. The problem is that removes being able to open from the home page. I have now created a shortcut which will suffice but I assume that it does not sync with my mobile devices.

I don’t understand your issue. What can’t be opened?

If you turn off daily devotionals under the 'customize" button the devotionals won't display on the homepage or have I misunderstood your suggestion.

Thanks for your help

If I understand you correctly, you want Carson's devotional to show up but not any others. Is that correct?

To add Carson's devotional you click the "+" at the top-right of the dashboard section, then "Daily Devotional" and choose the devotional you want.

If you have done that, what remaining issues are there?

And the above assumes Logos 8 - Logos 7 handled this differently. Which version are you running?

Thanks Graham but I am running Logos 7. I thought there could be differences based on previous answers.
