hi Graham

at present CLIPPINGS work similarly to LOGOS 7 NOTES DOCS in so far as text is copied from a resource and link formed- so the selected text features in the clippings doc and when clicked the resource it was taken from shows up.

Also the clippings docs TITLE feautres in the WINDOWS TAB and CONTEXT menu, and its title is retained when dragged off to the favourites menu

the word processor in the clippings doc is good.

So 1/  if the link between the clippings file- of text- also had a highlight on it-  then the resource is effectively highlighted as well

also

2/ if the CLIPPINGS DOC had a few features to help organise the file- such as SLIT SCREEN, INDENTABLE highlights in the split screen, and creration fo blank clippings- then the CLIPPINGS DOC could be organised for larger amount of clippings into a usable resource in its own right

is this explanation adequate? Maybe what I'm describing is quite simple, .....?

best wishes

Absolutely.

And one of the reasons for this still working in this way is that each Clipping is a separate Document with its own name - as opposed to Notes in the new system (as per earlier discussions)

Michael Perry:

True - but this is most likely to happen, in my view, by integrating Clippings into the Notes Tool not by enhancing the current Clippings functionality.

Michael Perry:

Yes - and one of the things that needs to be brought into the new Notes Tool in Split screen support (#11 on the upcoming features list).

And indenting Notes has been deprecated so unlikely to be added to Clippings.

Very clear thanks - but as per above I don't expect this functionality to be added to the current Clippings environment

But this is all speculation on my part!

hi Graham

thanks for your reply.

I posted the points about upgrading the functionality of the CLIPPINGS DOCS in the hope it might have been a simple way for  Logos of restoring the lost/overlooked functionality.,...which  is taking a long time to be returned.. and not sure exactly how it will be...

too long for me,... I've wasted so much time and work..becuase I have relied on Logos and invested heavily in it... but ..I'm giving up waiting...on the basis it is safe to do so I'm about to return to LOGOS 7 NOTES DOCS ....but I cannot afford further LOGOS disruptions, sync problems or the like..I need the software to function properly...but I'm sure it will be ok, as posted in this forum here above

best wishes

so I'm about to return to LOGOS 7 NOTES DOCS ...

This is the reasonable choice. I suspect Logos should have made it the default in the Logos 8 upgrade.

hi Adam

can you confirm it is ok to safely switch back to LOGOS 7 Notes, and to use it as before creating new notes and NOTES DOCUMENTS?

Of course, there is the Logos 8 Web page giving the red letter warning,,,,

We strongly recommend that you switch back to the new notes system before creating any notes. Creating notes in the old notes system may cause sync and data errors when switching back to the new Notes tool.

which means it is NOT advisable to swtich back and create new notes? ?

best wishes

Keep in mind that you post this the first time on a Saturday. You re-posted at 7:10 AM Bellingham time. I doubt the forums will be a priority for Adam on Monday morning.

hi Fredc

thanks for yoru reply. Sorry about posting and reposting.

I'm in the UK so I posted on Friday and Monday. I would still hope for an answer from someone from Logos  though, as the question is important I've been really struggling for weeks and weeks with the  issue.

It is difficult to really grasp the loss of functionality has been overlooked by the Logos developers and its return taking such a long time,.... IF...the error I've copied from the Logos support web page is correct........because it would mean I'm going to remain in a mess... and no one to help..

.Maybe I will seek an answer else ther than the forums.

thanks for the heads up

its return taking such a long time

Releases are on a six week cycle. The current beta is due to go stable the first or second week of March. The changes you have suggested are not in the current beta. I have no idea what improvements and features will be included in the next release, but even If they are, that release will likely not go stable until the middle or end of April.

Happy American Presidents' Day, Michael. :)

You can use command to switch back to the old notes system without any risk of losing data. We put a not-so-subtle warning on that page because there are a number of subtle complexities you could encounter:

  1. Old Notes syncs to New Notes, but not vice versa. Any notes that you have created or edited in the new Notes tool will not appear in your old note documents-- including if you create new notes or highlights on the Logos web or mobile apps.
  2. Notes that are modified in the new system, and then in the old system will likely result in duplicates of those notes in the new Notes tool.
  3. The old notes system will eventually go away. We want to encourage users to understand and use the new Notes tool, even as we continue to work to bring it up to parity with certain aspects of the old system.

Here's a quick update on some of the features you have requested:

  1. Notebook titles now appear in the panel tab (8.3 beta, ships to all users March 4)
  2. Notebook titles in context menu: still under discussion. Not in 8.3, but likely in version soon after.
  3. Various new features in Clippings: not planned.

hi Adam

thanks for your reply and reassurance.

I'll switch back to the Notes Tool  if/when Titles re-appear in the Context menu, ,

(I only mentioned updating Clippings in case this had potential to be a straightforward way to restore functionality)

Many thanks

hi Adam

just a quick note to say I'm new to the forums but a longstanding Logos user, and took the warnings about switching back to the Logos 7 notes seriously. If rather than that "not-so-subtle" warning LOGOS 8 NOTES WEB PAGE, there had been communication as thorough as your email now I'd have just swtiched back straight away and I would not have wasted so much time and work.... I expect I should have trawled through forums or double checked... but ....

I LOVE THE LOGOS 7 NOTES DOCUMENTS- I live with them daily, and have spent weeks and months organising them, they are great workhorses. I do not need my notes found for me in random collections, becuase I've already organised them in ways I remember as I use them,  i like straightforward note files.

I appreciate many other LOGOS USERS are not power users of notes as I am..and it is really great the notes and notes tool is being developed....I'm flexible with change,  BUT PLEASE be sure not to actually take away any of the existing functionality .. (MY functionality!) in the process.... there must be ways.....

The ways of working I've developed to enhance use of NOTES FILES by formatting into several different uses as  documents in their won right,  in combination with the FAVOURITES menu, creating a USER defined Library takes only a little self discipline and is well worth it, surely a very useful addition to the Logos system to raise awareness of,  if no one else has worked it out yet.

best wishes

Michael
