Someone told me that he heard that Marah was a diversion from the route to the promised land, because God wanted to clean them first (in whatever way). The water contains magnesium oxide, which is laxating.
He asked me if I knew about this explanation, but I couldn't find anything in my library. Where can I look?

A search for "magnesium" in your commentaries referring to Exodus 15 could work - this uses a "Milestone" search
"magnesium" WITHIN {Milestone <ex 15>}
And it gives me
Mr Criddle, you do amaze. When I saw the question, I thought surely a speculating Biblical commentator didn't go there. The imagery is truly horrendous, for a million people. Maybe the writer was over 50 (colonoscopies).
"God will save his fallen angels and their broken wings He'll mend."

I thought the same things, both regarding Mr. Criddle (he is always a tremendous help)—and the claim of a laxativing effect on the Israelites! I thought, “Oh, how funny!”
Turns out I was wrong—going to check in my Kregel OT Exegetical Series.
Ohhh man, will this ever preach (glad now that I clicked on this thread)🤓!
