Interesting - and I think it's a bug related to multiple biblical books being present
i also see this greyed out in a notebook containing just References
But if I filter down to just one book I can sort by reference
I think / hope this is a bug
Hi Graham
Yes, I can reproduce that bug of Reference only being available when one Bible book is filtered for.
That must be a bug - I can't Reference sort my Notes file which covers the whole Bible.
It looks like "by reference" means that the list is ordered by chapter and verse, without regard to book, so it can only be active when a single book is shown.
Me too. It seems that any notes that has verse references should be filterable (even if it included notes that DON'T have verse references). They could be filtered with the reference notes on top and the ones that don't at the bottom.

Hello,
This is working as designed, if you hover over the Reference option the tooltip says you have apply a reference or Bible book.
Hi Philana
Do you mean it is working by design that to be sorted by reference all notes need to be in the same biblical book?
Graham

Or the same Reference Type, you can filter by Bibe as a Reference Type which is then sorted by Reference.
The bug seems to be that you need to apply the filter of reference:bible even if this doesn't filter anything out, since all notes in the notebook are of this reference type (I verified with a shared notebook of ASV translator notes, but a detailed look at Graham's screenshot will show this, too)
@Graham:

the (to me) correct answer to this question is "No, they don't need to be in the same biblical book.", it just appeared to you in your test.
Hi Philana and Mick
Sorry but I'm still not seeing this
Even after filtering by reference - which as Mick says we shouldn't need to if all the notes in the notebook are of type reference - I still don't get the option to sort by reference if the notebook contains notes anchored in multiple biblical books
If I add a filter on "Matthew" - for example - then I can sort by reference
Even after filtering by reference
I believe you need all reference to be of the same datatype so try doing Reference:Bible, instead.

Sorry Graham, Reuben is correct. I thought I was clear when I wrote "you need to apply the filter of reference:bible" but obviously it was too terse and maybe a screenshot would have been in order.
Thanks guys - and apologies Mick, I just didn't read carefully what you had written.
I can now sort by reference but I still find it strange I need to apply this filter when all the notes are of the same type and so the filter doesn't actually strange what is displayed.
