Hi everyone:

I have a couple of issues that are driving me nuts.

I'm trying to switch from my preferred bible which is the nasb to the nkjv by transferring all my notes, highlights, etc. My nasb is loaded with over 4,000 notes, underlines, highlights, etc.

My two issues are as follows:

1) When I try to create a new note on my nkjv, the note appears on my nasb instead, but not on my nkjv even though I have completely cleared the visual filter on the nkjv.

2) If I link both translations with the visual filter, everything that I have on my nasb appears on the nkjv, which is exactly what I would like to have so that I don't have to start from the beginning. However, the original notes that I made on my nasb are repeated for the most part, twice, three or even four times in the nkjv wherever I have a note on my nasb. If I try to create a new note on my nkjv, not only it doesn't appear as a note inside the nkjv, but rather it appears several times on my nasb instead!

BY THE WAY, I created some time ago in Logos 7 a group of bibles which I called it "MY BIBLES." These links include the nkjv, the niv, the esv and some others. I noticed that the same issue I'm having includes these bibles. The problem may be there, but I don't know how to delete this "bible grouping."

Thanks in advance for your help,

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

There are two relevant visual filters

1) 'Notes and Highlights'

2) 'Notes and Highlights (Corresponding)'

If you have a note that is anchored to a generic reference, Jn 1:1, then that will appear in any bible that has Visual Filter 1 selected including the correct notebook.

If you have a note that is anchored to a resource specific reference,  Jn 1:1 NASB, then that will appear in the NASB if Visual Filter 1 is again selected with the correct notebook, but will only appear in the the NKJV if visual filter 2 is selected with the correct notebook in the NKJV, as it then shows for corresponding notes that are anchored to specific other bibles.

Does this help at all?

Thanks Kevin for responding. All the visual filters are unchecked yet I still have the issue I mentioned in my original post.

As an example, I just created a new note on my esv for Jn 1:1, but it showed up on my nasb, while there is no icon note on my esv.

I have right now on my screen a highlighted verse from the nkjv. I created a note on verse 5 from the nkjv, but the note only appears on my nasb, not on the nkjv.

At the bottom of the note (on the nasb side),  I read "corresponding annotation from the nkjv, yet all the links on the nkjv are off.

I don't know how to take a screenshot. Sorry.

Are all the visual filters in the NASB off also? It is these filters that decide whether or not other bible notes show. It does not matter what filters you have applied to the NKJV, notes will appear in the NASB if the NASB filters are selected.

I think I solved the problem. It had to do with my NASB visual filter.

My other issue is how do I copy all my notes and highlights from one bible (nasb) to another (nkjv) without seeing double, triple or quadruple notes on the nkjv.

What kind of filter has to be off?

You can just use the corresponding notes visual filter and then you do not need to copy them. If you are showing more than one note icon you either have multiple anchors or multiple notes. I would suggest you click each note icon and see what it opens to.

If you have already created muliple notes in multiple bibles, then you could filter your notes by resource, and assigned every note for a specific bible into its own notebook, and then in the corresponding notes visual filter, just apply one filter for one specific resource.

Alternatively maybe now you are familiar with the corresponding notes feature, which only came out in 8.4, you could consolidate your notes into just one main bible, deleting all the other superflous notes from other bibles and use the corresponding notes feature on all the other bibles.

Thank you Kevin. I did what you suggested. It's working now. Yes

God bless!

Thank for the information. Perhaps you can help. I called Logos to help me with a problem I'm having but they couldn't help me. We went through all the visual filters between the two translations. It also happens with my NIV, the ESV and other translation that I linked together while I had logos 7. I called them "MY BIBLES." If I knew how to delete that, it might help, but I'm not sure if it will.

I tried to move all my notes and visual filters from the nasb to the nkjv. The problem I have is that my notes from my nasb are being copied 2, 3 times into the njkv (instead of just one time). This is happening throughout my entire bible. I have over 26,000 notes which makes it impossible to correct them one by one.

On the other hand, If I delete one double note from the nkjv, it will automatically delete my original note from my nasb which I don't want that to happen.

Support couldn't help me because this is not an issue that has come in the past.

By the way, I took a picture of my page, but how do I paste here? I tried to use 'paste' but nothing happened???

Thanks,

Nope, it didn't work. I called helpdesk, but they have no idea why this happens. Their suggestion was to go to the forums and ask around.

Please note on the right (nkjv) by looking at verses 20 and 22 the times that one note from the nasb (on the left) has been copied.

This irritates me a great deal. Unless you were in a rush, they should have taken the time to assist! They have the ability, with your permission, to "take over" your screen and help you. They should have done so.

I see that the two bibles have a different amount of notes, but I am unsure what problem you are trying to point out. Part of the communication problem may be different nomenclature (i.e. the words you are using to describe the problem).

To be honest, I am not an expert in the new notes tool. However, I may be able to clear a few things up.

There are two primary means to create a note in a bible:

  1. By reference. If the note is "attached" to John 3:16, it will appear in ANY and ALL "versified" resources (i.e. bibles, commentaries). A note attached this way will always show up at the beginning of the verse.
  2. By selection. These kinds of notes are attached to a specific "selection." By definition, this means a specific resource. It means the paragraph, clause, word, or even single character/letter which was "selected" when creating the note. In ye olden days, this meant that a note of "selection" was visible ONLY in the single resource. Highlight notes were notes of "selection," consequently they were never visible in other translations. However, a few years ago FL added a new feature which allowed notes of selection to appear resources other than the original resource where the selection was made. This requires that both resources have owned reverse interlinears.

I am not sure how your notes were created. It seems that they were created "by selection." You <should> be able to turn on a visual filter to "see" the other notes in both resources.

Is the problem that for example in verse 18 in the NASB, the note icon is just once at start of the verse, but in the NKJV it is repeating in the verse 3 times?

If so, can you do a screen shot of the actual note please Joseph?

No, actually, they took the time to assist  me by taking over my computer. My tech was very nice and took a long look at my issue, but after consulting with other associates, they made the decision that my problem doesn't have any reference to any other issues they have encountered so far, therefore, is not worth to take more time to look into it.

At least, that's the impression I've got.

The screenshot below reveals that the open note on the left side appears 3 times on the right. These 3 round yellow icon notes are the exact copy of the original note that appears on the left side.

No it doesn’t! It is clear that it is the same exact note, not a duplicate. FL should have explained that to you. It says “corresponding annotation from NASB95”. This means that the note is NOT in the other bible. There is no duplicate.
