Logos failed to build my PB Bible, reporting the following log message, and said I had to close all open panels and try again.  I had to close the whole application to get it to build the PB Bible, which it did successfully.

=====

This happens frequently.

As I study the Bible, I build and update my own PB Bible often.

I always close the PB Bible resource in Logos before I try to rebuild it (if I don't, it is almost sure to fail).

When it fails I almost always have to close Logos, re-launch it and build the PB Bible before I load my layout.  (Just closing all panels doesn't usually make a difference.)  Needless to say, that's a tedious and frustrating process when it happens multiple times per study session.  My expectation is that it would build the PB Bible on demand without these extra steps.

The problem used to be really bad in Logos 7.  The problem seems to have lessened around the time L8 came out, but it is still a problem.

This time, after it failed, Logos began to index.  It always indexed after a successful build, but I never saw it index after a failed build.

Building my PB Bible fails most often when when or more of the following fictions were actively used in the PB Bible resource before I closed and tried to rebuild it:

  • was part of a link set
  • Had multiple resources selected for display (whether or not they were displayed when I closed the PB Bible resource before rebuilding it).

The above two problems makes me think that some relationship is not being released when the resource is closed, preventing Logos from properly preparing the PB for rebuild.

I kind of understand the following conditions may affect it, on the other hand, other resources download and get added to the library while these functions are running without a problem, so why not building a PB?

  • Logos is preparing my library
  • Logos is indexing

Can you please take another stab at fixing this problem with building PBs?

Please let me know where you want me to email my source DOCX if you need it. (PB Settings: Type: Bible; Language: English)

Thank you for your help with this.

Hi Faithlife,

I'm guessing you received the document I emailed per the instructions you sent me, and a case has been created.

I'm hoping this is fixed soon - I have to do a lot of extra steps to build my Bible PB each time I need to update it from my work in the DOCX.  Other types of PBs, most of them much smaller, have the same problem, so it's not just Bible PB or large DOCX file problem.

Please let me know if you need more info or samples, or if there is something else I can do to help with this.

This has been a problem for a long time, but it happens less with Logos 8. I get it with small PB's (a few pages in Word), and the workaround is the same as always!

By the way, Philana, one more observation I have confirmed (that maybe you found after review my logs or through your duplication of the problem).

I thought I would share it here so your code poets would see it:

I noticed that most of the time when the PB build fails, and I close the Logos App, the Synchronizing pop-up appears.  I do wonder if the build fails because Logos has to finish syncing before it can build a PB.  The frustrating part is that I make sure the swirling pizza that indicates synchronization stops moving before I attempt to build the PB, but apparently when it stops, the synchronization hasn't.  Sometimes it takes a long time to finish synchronization (usually from 2 to 10 seconds) and close the synchronization pop-up before I can relaunch Logos and successfully build the PB.

If this is the case, rather than the PB Builder failing, I'd like to see:

  • synchronization take less time
  • the swirling pizza truly indicated when synchronization finished.
  • PB Builder, when executed, would wait for synchronization to finish, then execute the build.

(The first two should be true even if they are not part of the PB Builder problem, please.)

Hope this helps.
