Zondervan just released Kostenberger‘s replacement volume on John by Craig Keener. When will Logos release it?

I wonder what Faithlife would do in this case... If we own the old volume, do we get the newer one for free or would we have to purchase it again?  Exchange?

It appears the ZIBBC NT volumes are not available for purchase, perhaps FL is renegotiating the contract in preparation for adding the new volume.

Weird contract to say the least! Accordance never stopped selling the remaining volumes. I got the entire OT and NT (minus John) for $99 on a super sale they had.

Unfortunately, FL has made it impossible to search your order history by removing the search option from the page, so, I can't tell you when or for how much I got my resources. I have John and it was before I was keeping track of when I bought the titles that's all I know.

Thanks Dale for the tip, but I found the command+f feature works just fine. I bought ZIBBC as a set along with Jouon and Muraoka for close to $400, so I spent quite a bit more for this title back in 2013.

I wonder if anyone can answer my query?

When Zondervan first released its statement on the replacing of John in Vol.2 of the ZIBBC NT it said that customers could return the volume for credit. Here is the relevant part of the statement and the link:

"The digital formats of the John part of volume 2 are also out of print and withdrawn from the market. Individuals who have purchased this volume and wish to return it for credit should call 1-800-727-3480 for instructions." (https://zondervanacademic.com/blog/statement-from-zondervan-academic-on-dr-andreas-kostenbergers-john-commentary)

My query: does anyone know if the replacement volume will be provided automatically to all Logos format owners of the ZIBBC NT or do we all individually need to call Zondervan directly?

You quote Zondervan with "Individuals who have purchased this volume and wish to return it for credit" which to me clearly implies that this doesn't happen automatically - I guess a lot of owners want to retain rather than return Kostenbergers commentary, and would be in an uproar if Logos just took it away and replaced it by the new volume.

There's also a technical issue. Zondervan pointed out that Kostenberger on John can be returned, whereas Arnold on Acts is not affected. The Logos edition of ZIBBC has both in one resource. Returning John and retaining Acts is not really feasible (there's no ZIBBC Acts standalone and the prepub of ZIBBC John does not state that Acts again is bundled). Maybe the Zondervan call center has a solution for you - or Logos Customer Service.

Or transfer the license of the Kostenberger volume to me and I’ll buy the new John Volume by Keener for you! I’ll pay for the transfer and it’s a win-win situation for both of us 👍😁👌

So how does one get the rest of the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary on the New Testament?

What are FL's plans there for those of us late to the game and don't own the previous volumes?

What makes this less than straightforward is that I, and I would expect many other Logos users, purchased the volume in question as part of a set. As we know, Logos licences are for the entire purchased resource whether that is a single book, a set of related books (as in this case) or a collection of books (such as a base package library). How would one return part of a Logos resource to a publisher? How does one return anything in Logos to a publisher when the Logos ecosystem is closed? Furthermore, only half the volume is being replaced: what Zondervan is now calling Volume 2A i.e. John's Gospel without Acts. So is it necessary to give up the Acts commentary in order to receive the corrected John? And even if owners were willing to do that then, again, I don't know how that would work given that Logos doesn't split licences. This is an unusual situation and I'm actually more interested in understanding the process than in returning, replacing or getting credit for anything.

I'm sure that Zondervan and Logos' customer service departments have the answers. I just always like to ask the forum first. I've lost count of the many times that I've stumbled across helpful answers because someone else on the forum asked a question Big Smile

This is interesting and I never thought of that before. I kept the original volume but if they are going to put out a correction volume I'd think original owners should at least get the corrected volume instead of having to repurchase it? I wonder what they did change?  I'll have to poke around a little for that one.
