Hi,
I posted the following in the Chinese Forum did not get a meaningful reply, so posting here, as there are more knowledgable Logos expert users here
https://community.logos.com/forums/t/187260.aspx
The example given in the post is Genesis 1:1, Hovering over every word in this verse, NOTHING shows up under translation in the Information Window. Some random words do show up in the information Window, this is not restricted to Genesis, I tried NT too!
Question:

What do you get when you turn on the RVI interlinear or pane? That's a quick way to see if the problem is lack of appropriate data or a problem in the display.
Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."

MJ, Thanks for your suggestion it provides further insight to the BUG:
Hopefully, someone in Logos can look at this, thank you.
Interesting - yes I think FL has to figure this one out.

MJ, Thanks.
I discovered another type of bug, even with the Inline Reverse Interline turned ON, eg. Job 24:1 ... "the Almighty" / "全能者"
PS: I am only discovering these type of very basic problem only when I start making myself to read CUV for my daily reading plan for 2020

"the Almighty" / "全能者" When I hover mouse over ESV it is OK as per screenshot ... where "the Almighty" is selected, information appeared When I hover mouse over Chinese Union Version, no show ... ie. "全能者" is not selected, nothing in information window. PS: I am only discovering these type of very basic problem only when I start making myself to read CUV for my daily reading plan for 2020
Hi, LimJK,
Thank you for posting this issue. I tested it on the Mac computer, hover over the "全能者" and found out that it is displaying correctly with the information. Please see my attached screenshot.
What I did was that I went to "Tools" and open " Information 資訊" first then I opened the CUV RVI with panel opened. I then hover the mouse on 全能者 and it display the information. I tried with other Chinese verses/words, they all display correctly. I tried in with both Chinese UI and English UI. Could you try it again to see if it works? Thank you.

Philip, What you have shown is the work around in my reply to MJ who suggested that I turn on Inline RVI and Pane. Can you try turning off "Inline Reverse Interlinear" and hover your mouse over every word of Genesis 1:1 see if you get "Translation" in "Information Window" to show up again. May I know what version of CUV Resource you are using? so that we can compare, mine is as follows: LLS:ZH-CUNPTRD 2019-09-23T14:51:25 Z ZH-CUNPTRD.logos4 RVI:ZH-CUNPTRD-NT 2019-09-23T14:46:04 Z ZH-CUNPTRD-NT.lbsrvi RVI:ZH-CUNPTRD-OT 2019-09-23T14:46:04 Z ZH-CUNPTRD-OT.lbsrvi Thanks
I turned off the Inline RVI and Pane and tested it again. When I hovered over "創造"(actually on 創)or highlighted both 創造, either way the information displayed correctly. Please see my attached screenshot.
My CUV versions are:
LLS:ZH-CUNPTRD 2019-09-23T14:51:25Z ZH-CUNPTRD.logos4
RVI:ZH-CUNPTRD-NT 2019-09-23T14:46:04Z ZH-CUNPTRD-NT.lbsrvi
RVI:ZH-CUNPTRD-OT 2019-09-23T14:46:04Z ZH-CUNPTRD-OT.lbsrvi
Thanks.
Would you then suspect a corrupt index and the delete/add routine on the resource?
Deleting/adding a resource is not likely to cause a reindex since the resource version will not have changed. The correct way to do that is using the "reindex <resource name>" command in the Go box.
That said, I don't think this is at all related to a corrupt index, since the index is used for searching, and this is not doing a search.
In my testing, hovering on the first character in the word worked correctly, while other characters in the word did not work. Does this match what others are experiencing?

Hi, Andrew,
Yes, you are correct. One term in English (ex. Jesus) might need two or three Chinese characters (Jesus: 耶穌) to indicate it. The best practice is to highlight both Chinese characters. If only hovers over the 耶穌, only the first character 耶 of the word/term will work correctly to have the definition/information for 耶穌. However, when user turns on Inline RVI and Pane, user can see that these two characters 耶穌 are linked together. For the nature of Chinese, it is hard/impossible to function like English.
Best regards,
Philip

Looks like we have the same version of CUV with RVI. By the way, where is your screenshot with RVI turn off?
For my case, when I hover the mouse over every word in Gen 1:1 there is no "translation" data in the Information Window. If I turn on "Inline RVI" hovering over the same words in Gen 1:1 works. What else can I try/do or to capture logs so that you can investigate.

Yes, we have the same version of CUV with RVI. Attached are my screenshots with RVI turn off.
In the information section, could you make sure "Update on" is set to "Hover". Also, make sure your Logos version is update-to-date. Could you try to open the "Information" before you open your "CUV RVI Bible"? Please try these suggestions and let me know if it works. Thank you.

Andrew,
Thanks for reply ... I noticed there are different behaviours if we use different verse. Can I confirm that you are using Gen 1:1 hovering the mouse over word by word.
I noticed in the
Are there some special resources, datasets that I am missing? I bought the very first version of Chinese Bronze, other than that I only purchase various English Logos Base Packages + Commentary Sets over the last 15 years.
Are there some settings I need to tweak to work with Chinese RVI ... I recalled may years ago someone mentioned that there is some uniqueness of deal with Chinese Character (Word) ... not sure now.
Hope that a few more Logos User who own the CUV with RVI, can validate if it is a general problem or it is just me
LimJK:not working situations (When I turn off Inline RVI): when I hover the mouse over a word, nothing gets highlighted, and nothing appears in the Information Windows. When I hover the mouse over each of the word, I noticed sometimes under translation in the Information windows I get a momentary .... (work in process indicator) then it stops and nothing gets displayed
My experience is that it works correctly if you hover your mouse over the first character in the word, but not at all over other characters.
I suspect you would see this same behavior if you left your mouse over the first character for long enough.
You might find it easier to use if you change from hover to click. Then you can click on the first character in order to have it work.

Philip, Thanks for reply ... Yes I always have "Update on" set to "Hover" in information window the first day I use Logos many years ago as it works that way for all other non-Chinese RVI.
I also tried what you have suggested as follows:
I noticed that when I hover over the first word for the first time I get this in-progress indicator for a short while (with fast fingers to that this screen shot) ... then disappear.

I don't see the behavior you described here. Please email me at: Chinese@faithlife.com and I can schedule a conference call with you to access your computer to investigate further. Thank you.
Thanks ... I will email you my available timeslots, we have time difference of 16 hrs. Thanks.
I have setup my copy of Logos 8 on a Windows 10 environment ... found that the issue I reported on mac is not happening here.
Both Andrew and yourself on your copy of Logos 8 on macOS do that have my issue. So, I am going to assume that something on my MacBookPro is wrong. I have been using Apple Migration Assistant for many years when upgrading macOS.
I have decided that it is time for me to spend sometime to re-install my macOS Catalina from scratch on my MacBookPro. This time I am NOT going to use the Apple migration assistant, instead, I am going to install from scratch all my Applications (Apple Apps, Microsoft Office 365) including Logos 8.
I will test the same scenario in the new setup and report back. Thanks.
