I'm working remotely due to the Covid-19 issues with very little internet, but Logos keeps asking me to sign in. If I don't use internet and sign in, it won't open. Any advice here?

With internet connection, launch Logos & sign-in:

  1. Change Program Settings for Use Internet from Yes (default) to No.
  2. Quit Logos
  3. Launch Logos (should open for offline use without prompting for sign in).

Logos wiki => Logos 8 Online Only Features documents features that do not work offline.

Sometimes I use my mobile which has limited internet. Sometimes I use the laptop which has none. What will happen to my clippings in my laptop when they collide with the ones on my phone when I finally do get internet again? Will they sync and integrate or will I face problems?

If you are using/updating the same clippings on both machines, you could have very different versions on each machine, and when they sync there could be some unexpected results. I would manually sync (copy/paste text) the laptop from the mobile device (vice-versa if necessary). I'd be similarly careful with other Documents, and Notes - ideally, don't update the same document on both machines.

If you create/update different docs on each machine, there will be no problem when you regain the Internet.

I have a similar issue.  From time to time (and only from time to time), when I open Logos 8 on my pc I am asked to sign in.  I have internet set to yes because I want to use internet.  I also have a good internet connection.  But then there are times when I want to open Logos 8 at a church before I preach and I do not have internet.  And most of the time, Logos 8 will open without asking for me to sign in.  But from time to time (and only from time to time), I am asked to sign in.  This is a huge problem when I am about to preach and there is not internet connection.  I have resolved it by using my phone to connect to the internet.  But this should not be the behavior of Logos 8.  Most of the time, whether I have internet or not, I am able to open Logos 8 without signing in.  Why am I randomly asked (whether on internet or not) to randomly sign in?

As long as Logos is up to date, it should open without asking you to sign in, even if you are not connected to the Internet.  It sounds like either Logos was not up to date, or perhaps there was some sort of technical problem.

If you are asked to sign in, you should still be able to select the option to "work offline".  There is definitely a technical problem if this option is not available.

If it is important to use Logos offline, I can suggest making sure that Logos is always up to date with the latest update.  You can also try using in Logos in airplane mode as an experiment.  I especially recommend doing this test before travelling somewhere that the Internet may not be reliable.

If there is a problem, it should be possible to fix it simply by making sure that Logos and your operating system are up to date.  Unfortunately, once you are actually in a location with poor bandwidth,it is too late to take these steps.

Thanks Joe.  My response:

1. Logos on my pc is always up to date.  So that is definitely not the issue

2. While this only occurs from time to time, when it does occur, I have not seen an option to select to "work offline"

3. If the problem happens again, I will try the airplane mode experiment.  The problem with doing this test before traveling to a place where internet is not reliable or does not exist is that I have seen no pattern to this issue.  Before responding now, I tested bringing up Logos while offline and online and had no issues either way.

So I emphasize that Logos on my computer, as well as everything on my computer, is always kept up to date.  I am good at that.  Sometime ago on the forum I mentioned this problem before.  I just could not find that post in the past.  Most of the time, there is never an issue.  It is simply from time to time, and when it happens, I am not given a choice to work offline.  I am stuck.

This past time it happened, I was not even offline.  I was in my home logging in on the day I posted on this thread, and I was asked to sign in with no option to work offline.

If you or someone can give some guidance as to what to do is such circumstance, I would be grateful.  For now, I will when it happens again, try the airplane mode and also the cellular data method that has worked to log me in online and then turn off the cellular hot spot as I do not need it once I am logged in.

Mark,

One other thing to try is to simply try going into airplane mode if you find you are are unable to work offline.  Then try opening Logos again..

If this issue re-occurs, please contact our Customer Service Department, so that we can investigate this further.

Joe I have the same problem hence the reason I started this thread. Until I get WiFi again, I don't know that contacting CS would help but this issue is more widespread than Mark. I don't know if this helps any

I have internet shut off permanently Soni can use Logos as I only have phone data in small increments.

Mark if you get any answers please pass them on to me as I need the same solution.

Hi Theo,

I am sorry to hear you are still having this problem. I agree that Customer Service cannot provide meaningful support for this if you are without Internet access.

Have you tried putting your computer into airplane mode?  That might be a possible workaround for you.

To recap what I have said before, these are the steps that can be taken once you do have Internet access again.  I am sorry I cannot provide a more immediate solution.

  1. Making sure that Logos is up to date.
  2. If the problem persists, make sure that the operating system is up to date.
  3. If the problem persists, re-install Logos.  Doing this does not delete your downloaded books as long as you do not take the extra step of manually deleting your Logos folder, where your books reside.
  4. If the problem persists, contact Customer Service.

Dear Joe from Faithlife,

I have for some time exactly the same issue as Mark & Theo and I guess many others: randomly (approx 3 times per 4 months)  I am asked to signed while my Logos system is always up to date. And always connected with a good internet speed

So, this is not the problem and not an incident.  While it happens randomly, there must be a  structural problem on Logos side. Because more Logos users are experiencing this issue. I guess for most of them it is not bothering enough to mention it on the forum.

Would you please handle this issue as a structural  problem.

Luuk

Hi Luuk,

I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem.

If you have not down so already, please follow the four steps that I posted above for Theo.

If the first three steps do not resolve the problem, please contact Customer Support, as the fourth step advises.  We will then be happy to investigate if this is a structural problem.

Joe,

Perhaps I can approach this another way...

When I open up Logos, if I am asked to sign in, why am I never given an option to work offline?  If I do not have an internet connection for whatever reason (in a place where there is no connection; power outage; internet is down...) Logos will still usually come up.  BUT from time to time, I am asked to sign in, and when I am asked to sign in, I am not given an option to work offline. I have a work around that I have been using since Logos 8 came out and I have had this problem.  But I do not want a work around.  I want the ability to use last sign in to work offline or to be able to sign in locally to be able to work offline.

I have feared that if one day Faithlife no longer exists, that one day this "time to time" situation will occur, and I will not longer have access to 22,000 resources that I own offline

Mark

  1. Logos on my system is up to date
  2. My Windows system is up to date
  3. I am not going to reinstall Logos, because it is not bothering me that much.

I just wanted you to know I am experiencing the same issue, so it must be more on the structural side. Because more people are sharing the same experience.

Hi Mark,

At this point, I am not sure why you have been having this problem.

I understand that you want more than a workaround.

My advice would be, if you are having this problem now, and have not done so already, follow the instructions I gave above, including the fourth step to contact Customer Service if the issue persists.

If you are not experiencing this problem now, please contact us if it recurs.

If there is a bug that needs to be fixed, that should become evident if customers contact us when they are having this issue. We certainly can investigate this further once we have more data to work with..

Hi Luuk,

Forgive me if it seems I am being repetitive.  We really do want to help with this problem, and I can appreciate that this problem has been frustrating for you.

If it is not too much trouble, please contact Customer Service for additional help.

If for some reason that is not convenient, then we can investigate further if other customers contact us while experiencing this problem.  That would give us the additional information that we would need in order to investigate it further.  That is how we could begin to address it as something that is potentially a structural issue.

Joe,

I just want to be sure that the behavior that I should be expecting is that whenever I am asked to sign in, there should be an option to work offline.  Is that correct?

That is not correct. In order to work offline, the application needs to have validated your credentials once. If you are being asked to sign in, it's because the application does not have a record of having validated your credentials. Assuming that your password hasn't been changed recently, this is most likely due to a bug in the software that has proven difficult to track down.

If you brought up the login screen (by holding down Ctrl or Cmd on startup) and the application already knows your credentials are valid, then you will be given the option to work offline. You can confirm this by logging in, then exit the application, then start it up with Ctrl/Cmd held down to get to the log in screen and see the Work Offline option.
