Lexham Context Commentary Updates

The Lexham Context Commentary has been updated more than 2 or 3 times already and the Gospel of John is still not showing. Is there a time frame when this will be added?

I hope it's been improved. I hope the Old Testament comes along someday too. I know it will be a LONG TIME before it gets worked on (if it ever comes along).

Anyway, I don't know what the updates have been fixing, but thanks either way.

I believe that the description page mentioned 2nd quarter 2020 for John, so that would be April at the earliest.

The author is still wrapping up his final draft for John. It is a substantial contribution to the LCC at over 100k words. We intend to have it out this fall, but that will depend on when he submits his final draft. The OT counterpart is also underway, and we hope to have it substantially completed over the next 18 months.

We intend to have it out this fall, but that will depend on when he submits his final draft. The OT counterpart is also underway, and we hope to have it substantially completed over the next 18 months.

Yes, John should get added into the TOC. This was a partial update, not the full John commentary. Currently only a fraction of the John comments are ready, but I wanted to make what was finished available since everyone's been waiting patiently.

Ah ok 👌 Yep, those Discovering volumes look very promising. I really like the Gospels and Acts volume. Very useful along with my Encountering the NT volume.

No fixed timeline. Here's what needs to happen.

Author sends me the content for John 1–10.
I make time to review the content.
We send it for copyediting when our copyeditor for this project is available (easier than explaining what needs to be done to a new copy editor).
I receive it back from the copyeditor, review her work, resolve any questions with the author, and finalize the files.
I send the files to the people at Faithlife who will make sure it gets in the right format to add to the Logos resource.
They finish their work and schedule the update for the next regularly scheduled resource update window (which I think is every 2 weeks or so).

So we're at #1 and I hope to have that one settled in February with #2 happening right after #1 if at all possible. If that happens, #3 would happen in March. And so on. Sometime in Q2 is possible if I get the content in the next few weeks and the copyeditor is available.

I think you'll be happy with the final results. It's likely to turn out to be the highest word count of coverage for the NT books due to the depth of connections to point out for John's Gospel.

My focus recently with LCC has been on the editorial for John 1–10, so my co-editors were the ones responsible for the OT update. I think it was adding content that has come in and been edited since last fall, but I don't know the particulars.

I believe this update was more internal corrections than new content, as the version is dated 2/11/21. The next new content update is planned for early Fall with the content submitted by early summer, which should be the Pentateuch and most of the Historical Books. The balance of the material will be shipped when it is all completed, hopefully by end of Q1 of 2022.

The same author is finishing John 11–21. The first half is going through editorial here, but I don't have an estimate yet of when it will appear in the resource.
