I have been promoting Logos 8 basic with friends and church members to encourage them to get into deeper Bible study.

Is there a way I can have both my regular paid Logos 8 and a separate free Logos 8 basic on my same PC?
The reason is so I can better understand using and teaching the Logos 8 basic features to others with the resources they would have and not my own as my library has significantly more books and resources.

Thanks

Yes, it can be done (but it's not very convenient right now, I will admit).

Create a new account (with a different email address) at Faithlife.com and purchase Logos 8 Basic on that account. When you start Logos, hold down the Ctrl key, which will show the Log In dialog. You can then enter that new email address and password and sign into that account, which has only the Logos 8 Basic licenses. Repeat the process (with Ctrl) to switch back to your regular account.

To make this a little easier, some people create separate Windows user accounts they can switch between. Alternatively, you can install Verbum alongside Logos in your same Windows user account, and use Verbum to log in with your Logos 8 Basic email address, bearing in mind that there will be slight UI differences.

This is a great idea! Go to this link - sign out of your account if it comes up when you log in

It would be great if Faithlife made this easier to do. I'm sure there are a lot of Logos users that would like to help others only using the resources they have.

Thankful can use Logos & Verbum at the same time (one way to use multiple monitors, which also provides redundancy if a computer goes bezerk). Currently running Logos 8.14 Beta 1 (purchased library) & Verbum 8.14 Beta 1 (demonstration library with $0.00 order total) using Windows 10 Pro on a 2013 model Dell Inspiron laptop (512 GB SSD) and using macOS 10.15.4 on a 27" iMac 5k 2019.

Thankful for my demonstration library including Logos 8 Fundamentals that is a worthwhile, affordable upgrade from Logos 8 Basic & Verbum 8 Basic

Office 2010 (32-bit) works on 64-bit Windows 10 Pro with caveat that 64-bit Logos 8 & Verbum 8 cannot print/export to 32-bit open application (can print/export to a file, which can be opened by 32-bit Office 2010). Personally not using Office enough to justify upgrade expenditure.

FYI: reply in thread => Logos 8 Mac System Recommendations (what you'd actually want as a user) has more details about my 27" iMac https://community.logos.com/forums/p/188994/1091934.aspx#1091934 (can boot up macOS 10.15 Catalina OR macOS 10.14 Mojave with one Logos 8 & Verbum 8 installation shared on internal SSD - since setting up dual boot have not needed macOS 10.14 Mojave thus far with older 32-bit Office 2011 as 64-bit LibreOffice 6.4.2 works on macOS 10.15 Catalina & Windows 10 Pro).

Hi everyone I appreciate the help and information. An update I have opened a second faithlife account using my 2nd email account. Only confusion for me is that I registered under the same name (should have used a pseudonym but felt strange to use a fake name on a Christian platform :-)) Since I will focus on just using the free resources, it does help that I do not need to link a credit card (which would add to the confusion as I have just ONE debit card) The use the CTRL key when launching Logos Seems to work fine I did not go for the verbum option as a different UI might complicate matters if I want to be consistent and help others use Logos 8 Free version. Not sure of what the differences are. A few related questions - sorry if this is the wrong thread to post it on. 1. On verbum. I have verbum resources on my Logos account/software. So does this mean that verbum and logos resources are always compatible? If so, why have two separate software? 2. On Vyrso - not sure if it still exists. I stopped using it years ago as it was easier to put my faithlife ebooks on my Logos platform. Another major reason is that it takes up valuable space on my mobile phone and iPad (which are old devices) 3. On the Faithlife Study Bible app - also stopped using them as it seems redundant and takes up additional valuable space. I find that using my Bible and the study Bible under a layout on my phone is essentially the same thing. Many thanks, everyone and God bless!!

Yes. Thread => Logos and Verbum includes a reply from Faithlife about Logos command Set Verbum to Yes:

Andrew Batishko (Faithlife):

Michel Pauw:

My question is: what will be different if I 'set Verbum to Yes'?

Not much.

  • The default priorities of a few resources are adjusted (you can recreate this yourself).
  • A couple of system collections are made available (you can recreate this yourself).
  • The default guide templates look a little different (you can recreate this using your own custom templates).
  • There's a slightly different list of resources that download by default before starting the application on a fresh install.
  • Some URLs in the application point to verbum.com instead of logos.com.
  • An extended default Cannon beyond the 66 books of the Protestant Cannon (thanks, DoC)
  • The ability to show Saint of the Day in home page with a link to reading about the Saint (thanks, DoC)

There's probably a couple other items I'm not remembering, but not much of significance. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Verbum does not have command: Set Verbum to (so cannot make Verbum behave like Logos)

Primary UI differences are Verbum icon (instead of Logos icon) and Home Page content (personally open to a blank layout so seldom look at Home Page). Easy to hop/switch between Logos and Verbum.

Vyrso went away, was replaced by Faithlife eBooks, whose eBook resources are usable in Logos & Verbum.

Paul, I use the multiple user feature available on all modern operating systems. I use my usual full version under my normal user account and use the basic version under a second user I have named Demo. On both Windows and macOS it is possible to have both user accounts active and it is easy to switch back and forth between them. For a second  Logos account name I simply used my first and second initial instead of full first name and used a second email to link to the new Demo purposed account.

This works extremely well in demonstrating what is available in the free Logos package, which has a great set of tools to get started in digital Bible study.

Oh, your name caught my attention immediately, as my freshman college room mate has the same name.

Best wishes,

Joseph

Ok. I am not to PC saavy so not sure about how to use multiple user system.
Appreciate your taking the time to give me this information but no worries - I will just get used to the method I have set up. Smile

p/s My surname LONG is actually a Chinese family name, but it has helped me cross barriers with correspondence with some Caucasian people because they assume I am Caucasian. Geeked

Paul, I am sure you have some amusing name related stories. ;)

Be patient and spend a few minutes each week learning something new about the operating system of the computer you are using. Over time you will be surprised at your new computer skills.

Smiling with you,

Joseph
