Beta by September?

I know other people have talked about this before but I wanted to ask a question about Beta timing, especially in light of the recent blog post that says a Mac Beta is "around the corner." (Mac Dev Team guys must just groan when blogs get posted like that - saying "Like we don't get enough questions about that already!" )

Here's my situation - I'm looking at attending a Camp Logos seminar in September, and would really like it if the Mac version was at least in Beta. I do have the Windows version loaded on my MacBook (via VirtualBox - a great, free, VM package if you're looking for a temporary solution and don't want to shell out the bucks for Fusion or something like that) but I can't devote more than 1GB of RAM to the VirtualBox resources and frankly, Logos 4 Windows just grinds in that environment and crashes from time to time. Not great if you're trying to follow Morris along if either the feature isn't enabled on the Mac version, or your system crashes using the Windows version.

I guess my question is whether I should be holding out any hope of having a beta of the Mac version by September or not. I am aware of the standard "We're working as fast as we can answer" to these types of questions. (I know that you are - this is my no means a criticism!) I just want to get the most out of this training and so I want to look at what I'll be up against in terms of a working product in September.

My thanks go to the Logos Mac Dev Team - it does really seem to be coming together. I honestly open Logos 4 now and every time find myself thinking "I can't believe I have software that does so much!" I give thanks to God for such a fantastic resource! Keep up the good work!

This probably isn't the answer you are looking for, but I think you can "rent" computers at Camp Logos. Perhaps that could be your backup plan!

Your enthusiasm for the Mac product is quite encouraging and is part of what makes our jobs so fun.

My lips, however, are still sealed when it comes to divulging hints about when you might have a beta [:#].

Attend the Camp Logos with just the Mac Version, even if it is just in Alpha still! I went June 10-11 to National Camp Logos and was able to follow almost everything, minus keyboard shortcuts and a few things that were mostly working but not 100% implemented, such as I would have a "broken link/button" to get to something (which was very easy to remember how to do). And that was 2 Alpha's ago, so you may be able to follow 95% of everything! Expect Beta right around the corner, and the finished product by September (if all goes well). They want to be be able to get Logos as a requirement for seminary students, but professors are less likely to make such a requirement UNLESS the program is available in its finished form for both a PC & a MAC. [;)]

We're getting to the point where "Alpha" and "Beta" are semantic distinctions, not technical ones. The question is, can you use the latest release to follow along? And I think the answer is "just about completely" right now, and "completely" by the time you head to the camp.

I haven't posted a lot on these forums but have been an avid reader of them, and they have been extremely responsive to any issue that has come up!

Actually, I have lived near Seattle for the past 13 years and am moving down to SoCal for my work with Logos... it is a tough job, but someone has to do it.... (and yes it was kinda' mean [;)] )

In all seriousness, while I would love to get back to my roots in Scotland, my wife wouldn't probably think too well of us leaving all of our family and friends. Perhaps I'll work it into my plans for a family vacation in the next couple of years. My kids think things that are 100 years old are "really old"; I suspect a trip to Europe would prove enlightening.

A23 is a gem and works like a champ. I've been moving thru the alphas—and occasionally Logos 4 Win—during my first 2 years at Dallas Seminary and have nothing but high praise, after having used Libronix on the Win platform since 2000. Just finishing 2nd year of Hebrew and using the Mac version to write exegetical papers was just fine. The alphas have been more than adequate for the task. I'm looking forward to the final release, but am more than content with what we have now. Thanks for all the hard work.

PS Hall Harris just completed teaching a summer DMin class on using electronic resources for Bible study. As you would expect, Logos was the featured product. I know of at least one friend who upgraded to Platinum when she saw how good the program was.
