I thought at one time that L4 remembered your current layout from one computer to the next. For instance, if I'm at Gen 2 on my home computer and then start L4 on my work computer the layout screeen would be the same. I seem to remember this being the case on earlier versions.

Now (v 4.04.4.1385) this doesn't seem to be the case. Any idea what's up?

If you save/name a layout you can use it on another computer, but there is no sync in the sense that documents & settings are sync'd.

I never understood why everything else (notes, highlights, reading plans, visual filters, clippings, handouts, etc) sync automatically between computers, but for layouts I have to manually tell it to "update to current snapshot" everytime before I go and work on a different computer.

The default layout doesn't sync for the reason that you might want to use different layouts on different computers because they have different screen configurations.  If you had a netbook with 1366 x 768 pixel screen and a desktop with two monitors (one at 2560x1440, and one at 1280x1024), you might be glad that you're not forced to use the same layout on both (especially if you used them for different purposes, i.e. devotions/reading vs. in depth study).

I'm not so sure that would be too much of a problem technically. All the system would have to do is "remember" the current settings (notes, highlights, reading plans, visual filters, clippings, handouts, etc) as Peter suggested, irrespective of the hardware.

Perhaps we should make this a recommendation...........
