Has anyone heard about this updated version of Moo's Pillar commentary coming out next year? I can't find anything on the internet describing how extensive the update is.

I have no info but did notice that in the revise edition the page count is 450 while in the old edition it is 287.
Thanks. I spotted that too. I wonder if the commentary itself is heavily revised. Or possibly introductory matters and bibliography. Maybe all three.
The Eerdmans's site mentions a release date of June 15, 2021. Perhaps it is still too much 'in progress' to fully comment on what has been revised?
I'm looking at this as probably not too big of a deal if you already have the first edition. That said, I like Moo.
The page count difference though makes me think it might be a more significant update than Kruse's on the Epistles of John.
Yes, it is a very good sign. I think that and all he might have picked up research wise in the years since the first volume would make it worthwhile.
Other than what appears to be a larger page count, the only other information I've found is a publication date of June 15th and the following statement:
The second edition is based upon the newest version of the NIV and incorporates the latest scholarship. It has been expanded, updated, and revised throughout.
Just spotted that if you don't have the original edition of James in the Pillar series and like a deal, the original editions of both James and the Letters of John seem to be at lower prices than previously.

There’s a bundle too for $31.03 that includes the revised James volume, but it’s cheaper at $27 if you order it separately: https://www.logos.com/product/203292/pillar-new-testament-commentary-pntc
Just check out the link for the 2nd edition and you can preorder for less.

271 pages vs 450 pages!
This book releases tomorrow. I hope the additional page count is not just additional bibliography pages and is a significant update on Moo's previous edtion. There have been so many good offers this month my credit card is almost hoping that's all it is and I return it!
Eerdmans says "It has been expanded, updated, and revised throughout."
Here is to hoping!

Let's hope "expanded" is the key word. They said Kruse's Pillar revision was "updated and revised" but that didn't amount to much.

I think the key word is expanded 👍😁👌 I’ll skip it for now. Too many crazy deals as of late. I need a break 🥵
The preface sounds as though it will be a worthwhile revision.
I'd be interested to know people's views on whether the 2nd edition is worth owning, if you own the original.
My initial view is that the contents themselves are not significantly different. A bit of rewording here and there. I guess the big advantage to some will be references to works published in the last 20 years and hyperlinks to those works.
But in terms of overall benefit to those preaching, I'm inclined to think the original will work just fine - along with other commentaries I own.
My view is based on trying to limit myself to $30 a month (I generally fail) and buying books to assist in preaching rather than academic purposes.
What have others spotted about the revision that might make it a must buy for those that own the original?
Paul, I wouldn’t sweat it if I were you. It’ll probably be included in the next Logos version. You’ll be better served with the POSB volume that has James; since your focus is on preaching helps. I’m happy with the original so I don’t mind waiting for a dynamically priced base package or bundle that will give me the revised and expanded edition at a cheaper price. If you have the ZECNT volume on James or the NIVAC on James by Moo, you’ll be better off with those than this new edition 👍😁👌

Thanks DAL. Yes I have ZECNT and NIVAC - plus countless more. I'm sure the Pillar volume will appear in some package at some point. I have every Pillar volume apart from the revisions, as they've tended to disappoint when it comes to new content. Perhaps I should learn not to bother. The James volume was a great price at $19.99, but obviously not great if you have the original it seems.

A lesson I'm trying to learn as well!
If you own Apollos/Pillar NTC bundle the new James volume by Moo is down to $15 bucks in the Back to School sale!

Ps. Fair warning ⚠️ If you purchase James as part of this bundle and someday you decide to sell, you will have to get rid of the entire bundle. I bought Apollos OTC separately, so, in a way, this deal is not good for me because it’ll tie up everything. I could still get it since the Pillar series was part of a base package and I don’t intend to get rid of AOTC, but “you never know.”
Did anyone see a substantial revision on the James PNTC by Moo? It’s being offered for $15 and change in the Back to School sale.

I returned it as it didn't seem substantial enough. Admittedly I suspect my budget isn't as large as yours, so I try to be discerning.

I’m trying to stay within budget too, so thanks for the info. I read the sample pages along with my first copy, but found out the content doesn’t change much and doesn’t add much either. So I’m good for now. L10 will definitely have it included in some base package anyway.
