Good post from Tim Challies today on Professor Grant Horner's Ten Chapters Per Day reading plan.
Since we can't yet order the reading plans in Logos to stick to CHAPTER divisions following the plan in Logos will not be structured by chapter boundaries, but since the program tracks the start and stop for you, that's ok.
Briefly all you need to do is create a reading plan with the following divisions:
Matt-John|Gen-Deut|Romans-Col,Heb|1 Thess-Philemon,James-Rev||Job,Eccl,Song|Psalms|Proverbs|Josh-Esther|Isaiah-Malachi|Acts
To read more, reference Tim's post above or check out the PDF in the post. (I was going to attach it but couldn't find anything about copyright so was uncertain).
EDITED: to add Acts, and fix link.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.
thanks for the synopsyis looks kind of interesting... I tried to visit page but my AV stops it from loading
(edit) yes it was the feedburner Thomas, thanks for the fix
Never Deprive Anyone of Hope.. It Might Be ALL They Have
Sorry Dominic, It looks like Avast was choking on the feedburner address? At any rate I've edited the link.
Further, I'm adding the PDF here anyway , it doesn't look like a copyright violation from what I'm reading. Professor Grant Horner's Bible Reading System.pdf
Thomas,
I pasted in your configuration and spanned it over one year and over 90 days, but it is not near the same as Grant Horner's plan. For example, it only has you reading Acts ONE time, rather than his 12.
Thomas Black:Briefly all you need to do is create a reading plan with the following divisions:
Did you add the plan to the wiki?
Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."
David Lemmons:I pasted in your configuration and spanned it over one year and over 90 days, but it is not near the same as Grant Horner's plan. For example, it only has you reading Acts ONE time, rather than his 12.
@Logos: would it be possible to code a plan into the program that would do this the way Grant Horner envisioned it? I'm really liking this plan, in it's original intent of multiple readings per year.

After reading this post I'm interested in setting up the Horner reading plan. I went to the Wicki and read it and still can't figure it out. Can anyone help me set this up?
Also, what is the risk running this plan. The Wicki tells you to run it at your own risk. Does this interfere with L4? Thanks for your help.
The risk Kim, is a concern because you are going to be playing on the inside of one of the files that Logos uses to run.
Doing something wrong could result in instability (crashes) or at absolute worse case scenario the need to uninstall and reinstall Logos. The latter may not be likely but the former is.
I haven't set up the plan myself yet, I just downloaded the SQLite browser so I could figure it out, but it seems that the directions on the wiki are pretty brief.
What step are you on, and what trouble are you having? Perhaps we can walk you through it.
I carefully followed the wiki instructions and it worked like a charm.

Thanks Thomas for the offer to help. Given the risk, I think I will "pass" on the attempt to integrate this reading plan into Logos 4.

This wouldn't help with exact chapter divisions and such, but when I want a reading plan to include a book multiple time, it gets multiple entries in its group. For instance, imagine the odd reading plan that has me read Psalms once and Romans 6 times:
Psalms | Romans, Romans, Romans, Romans, Romans, Romans
In whatever timeframe you specify, it will have you read through Psalms once and Romans six times.
Chris,
I forgot about that. Dividing the sections up and dividing against 365 tells you how many times each section is read.
For example in this program it takes 89 days to read the gospels. That's 4.1 times per year. Therefore if I set it to read mt--jn,mt-jn,mt-jn,mt-jn I get an approximation of the frequency.
If someone doesn't want to edit the sql file they could approximate the program a bit better. Though once again it would be without chapter breaks, and has some degree of innacuracy this way. Simply divide this over one year/ 365 days.
Mt–Jn,Mt–Jn,Mt–Jn,Mt–Jn | Ge–Dt,Ge–Dt | Ro–Col, Heb, Ro–Col, Heb, Ro–Col, Heb, Ro–Col, Heb, Ro–Col, Heb| 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re, 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re, 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re, 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re, 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re, 1 Th–Phm, Jas–Re | Job, Ec–So,Job, Ec–So,Job, Ec–So,Job, Ec–So,Job, Ec–So,Job, Ec–So | Ps,ps | Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr,Pr | Jos–Es,Jos-Es | Is–Mal,Is–Mal | Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac,Ac
I still want Logos to provide support for a large variety of reading plans where the plans are hand coded correctly and one only has to enter a starting date for everything to fall into place ... I'm thinking specifically of things like the Zondervan plans.
I agree MJ, I fear however that it will be a long(er) time coming than other fixes we're asking for. Perhaps if I had a clue how to code such an item I'd offer to do one.
I say add Prof Horner's plan to the master list of "we want these coded please!"

Aaron Sauer: I carefully followed the wiki instructions and it worked like a charm.
Worked for me too. Using excel to generate a new date range and ultraedit in column mode, I was able to quickly change the date range to start on August 23 and finish Aug 21, 2012 as my current reading plan ends on the 22nd.
Thanks to Robert Warren for generating the xml file.

You're welcome! I will add that Jon Rumble actually developed the technical scheme for the McCheyne plan (this was before Logos hard-coded it into L4) and I used monkey-see-monkey-do pattern recognition to develop a two-year Horner file using Excel and Notepad with the SQLite program. It ends rather raggedly, since the plan really isn't time-based, but of a continuous nature.

Kim,
I have set up Grant Horner's, an ESV Chronological plan, and a New Testament in 30 days plan. I use the New Testament plan every day. I'm not saying you want have trouble, but I haven't and it is awesome being able to keep up with where I am on the computer with these plans that involve reading books out of order. Plus it shows up on my phone thorough Library.Logos. Not saying the risk isn't it there but it has been convenient.

Hi Robert,
I found a mistake in the XML file. Psalms 150 is never read after the first cycle. The rest check out fine.

Good catch, Clinton. Now who is going to fix it?
