It's 1:20a.m. EST...I'm seeing a 463.5 MB Update.  Any ideas or report on what this update has? I know it's good, but would like to know if it's new stuff being added to Logos 4.

View your Resources folder sorted in chronological order and you can tell what is new. It is an update of the Biblical People/Places/Things databases, an updated Help file (probably for the new 4.1 features), and an update of the LCV (Logos Controlled Vocabulary) database. The biggest of these files is all the maps for BIblical Places: 432 MB.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it. If you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, it's

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<some-random-string>\ResourceManager\Resources

If you're running Windows XP, it's

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\<some-random-string>\ResourceManager\Resources

An easy way to find it again if you're ever looking for it is right-click on the Logos icon on your Start menu and select Open File Location. Then it's pretty easy to navigate from there down through the folder structure to find whatever Logos stuff you're looking for. Resources are in the Data subfolder and your own user-created documents are in the Documents subfolder. The "some-random-string" folder (a random sequence of characters unique to your installation) will be the only subfolder under each of Data and Documents, and then the next level down is pretty self-explanatory.

Another tip (and what I've just done in Windows 7) is added that folder to the My Documents Library.

Thanks Rosie,

I don't have time to go through the steps to check the folder, but with your info i'm more than satisfied to know what it is.   Thanks again!  Wow, you must stay up late too or maybe you were in Pacific time...:-)

I did not get the big download, just a 45mb one. My folder shows the most recent file as 8/24/10.

This is the best workaround we have, but it is still not acceptable. Some files are easy to figure out. Others - I have no idea what they are.

PLEASE Logos - let us know what is being downloaded. 3.0 did.

I agree with Jerry.  Despite repeated pleas from multiple users, there are certain things that Logos just seems unwilling to consider.  This is one of them.  (Improving Notes comes to mind as the other one.)

Please consider this request.  We're not asking for the ability to select what to download or not download (we know we're not going to win that one).  Just asking for a way to display what's being downloaded - just information to enhance user visibility into what Logos is doing on my machine.  Even Microsoft's Windows Update tells you what it's downloading.

Thanks,

Peter

Carmen Gauvin-O'Donnell:

You can also add that folder to your Logos4 shortcut bar:

With Windows Explorer open over the top of L4, just drag and drop the folder icon from Explorer onto the short-cut bar of L4. (Note: I didn't quite screen capture the entire location I was looking at when I did this.)

Alternatively, you could create a shortcut in Explorer and drag and drop that shortcut onto the L4 short-cut bar.

I agree on the need for information about what is downloading.

For a time, these releases were noted on the forum, but we missed it this go round.  There needs to be something in the workflow that displays IN the program.

Peter, would you mind starting a different thread with exactly what you'd like to see in an improved notes?

Yes, thanks Richard. It's one of those: "Now why didn't I think about that myself?"

But I didn't. Good job!

I asked about this before - whether it's possible at least, after a new update, for Logos to have a pop-up (or something of that sort) of changes/new additions etc. Sometimes, I don't know what new books are added.

This is my NUMBER one annoyance with Logos 4. I appreciate the rationale about not allowing selective updates, but I do not see why we cannot be told what is being updated.  Why does this complicate the programme too much to have a greater level of verbose reporting for those who wish to know what is going on with their library?

It went up from 357 votes to 371 in just the last couple of hours. Maybe we can push it like we do Community Pricing and get it "over the top," to the #1 spot!

And yet they have a massive track record of doing so.  Good companies listen to their consumers, and I've seen many times that they've reversed flow because users asked for it.

I have every expectation that this will be implemented and not ignored. (See, I even put it in writing.)

Yes, they've even been known to reverse course on a feature they vehemently opposed: they were not going to implement SmartTags for L4 and had lined up solid reasons why they shouldn't have to ("Microsoft has deprecated SmartTags.") But we prevailed, and they finally gave in and did it. Shipping soon to a computer near you (in 4.1). They have a well-deserved reputation for being enormously responsive to their loyal customers. And that pays off for them, as they've got a very loyal customer base. It's a self-perpetuating relationship.
