Michael March:

The reason I like android is that it allows me more freedom to do what I want to without always buying more android.  Apple, it seems to me, simply does not play well with others.  Just a personal preference..

I like the openness of Android and I like to tinker with my stuff. When I had my iPad, I just found it too limiting for me although it was very polished and "just worked." Because I know some Linux, Android is a better fit for me. I just hope the version of Android that Logos releases will have feature parity with the iOS out of the gate.

Observation: reading Logos web page describing Android plans => http://www.logos.com/mobile/android noticed "It will likely be just like the Logos for iPhone application, with Android-specific interface as required."

On desktops and laptops, Logos 4 developed first for Microsoft Windows platform, then user interface coded for Apple's Mac (sharing common code base).  For smaller mobile devices, Logos developed first for Apple mobile devices, then Android mobile devices from many manufacturers (including several that also offer Windows computers).

Looking at global smartphone marketshare from 3rd quarter 2010 http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1466313 (published in November 2010 soon after Android tweet)), can appreciate Logos business decision for Android.

Researching programming environments, appears Logos has chosen to implement several code bases: Microsoft .Net shared code base (plus user interfaces), Apple's objective-C, Android's Java implementation, and web browser for http://biblia.com/ (not know what is shareable cross platform).

For Logos Forums, wonder when Android will appear ?

It is a bit cumbersome but you can read your logos books on your kindle.  Go to the experimental web browser, bring up biblia.com, search for the  book, make it full screen and read.

The problem with that is that each page turn is a download.  Slow, slow slow.  Kindle can do it, but cumbersome is indeed the word.

I appreciate the thought though, thank you for that!  Yes

DEBORAH!  I DID see this just a few days ago and this is so exciting!  I thought this was sorta' inevitable since Android is becoming to Apple & smartphones what Windows was to Apple and personal computers (comparing Apples to Apples ;o)

I'm hoping to get on your "A" list for Beta testing if/when you guys need a few extra 'droid phones for that. It would be very cool to be a part of that since my FIRST version of Logos was CDWord... written for the ole' Windows 2.0...

Then I had to turn right around and upgrade because Windows 3.11 was such a radical leap forward for Windows you guys had to nearly start over (as I'm sure you have many times since then). That was what... 1988, 1989?!

Anyway, it's nice to be a part of something from CDWord to Android...  "...but my word shall never pass away..."

Thank-you for all you guys have done and ARE doing in His name.

God bless,

Ray

Deborah,

Thanks for the update. I've never used Logos before but I've seen so many positive comments about it. I will surely subscribe once the Android version is available.

I'm with you Rosie.   In fact my wife and I are both due for new phones (way past due) but I'm waiting for the freshest hardware I can spare.  :-)

Me too!  Just waiting ever so patiently (not) for the Logos Android app so I can purchase one of the exciting newy Android tabletPCs.  I love my Logos on laptop, but would like to be able to spend some hours reading on the couch or in in bed.  Can't wait for this to be released!

I'll be happy for sure when an App comes out for my Droid phone.

I'd love to see an app for Android tablets (ya know, dual core, more ram, better multitasking than iPad) that has closer to the PC experience of Logos.

I would love to use Logos in Android devices, too.  I hope that Logos will work with offline resources stored on SD card - that would mean with ALL resources at once.

Some cheap Android-based devices coming from China are using Android 1.5.  Does anybody has any information on lowest version of Android that Logos will support?  And any information on offline resources usage?

Nothing definite on Android version, but I'm fairly confident they'll be requiring at least 2.1.  More likely 2.2 or 2.3 (if it becomes more widely available).

During a two week sample at Google's Android Market earlier this year, devices were running 5 different versions => http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html - Android 2.2 was 57.6 %, followed by Android 2.1 at 31.4 % so minimum requirement of Android 2.1 or 2.2 seems plausible.

Google eBooks for Android has 2 versions: one for smartphones (2.1 - 2.3) and one for tablets (3.0)

Wonder if Logos Android application will have different versions for smartphone and tablet ? (along with more features than Kindle and Google eBooks)

I recall reading something in the past day or so reading something about app developers would have the capability of building in detection of the type of device (smartphone v tablet), so only one app could be developed instead of having to develop two separate apps.  Not sure how that would pan out feature-wise since one of the advantages of the tablet should be the capability to include additional features.

Any ETA on the Logos app for Android ?

I am looking to get the 7" HTC Flyer or possibly the HTC 8.9" or 10" that is rumored to be coming this summer with even greater specs.  I love the stylus pen & app that comes with HTC tablets a great feature.

Hurry up Logos ! :)  I know you're doing your best.
