I am skimming the Greek set right now, and so far they look much better. I had one file that wouldn't load, but I re-extracted it from the download and it worked fine the second time.
Terry
After downloading all 3 files all night, this morning I went in to unzip the Hebrew video and it said it was a corrupted file....I will have patience....emailed to have the videos mailed to me in December......oh well...
same issue here using Macbook Pro.
All three of my files say they are corrupted!
Phew! Saved myself the frustration by ordering the DVD. Big downloads like these rarely go well for me.
No problem here! There was one strange thing about them, however. When I attempted to expand the Greek files in the Finder (Mac feature), the system kept trying to compress them again. It must not have recognized that they were .zip. Stuffit Expander handled them without any problem. The Finder expanded the Hebrew files correctly.
Hi,
I have the same issue (Decompress failed) with the 2 Greek files in Mac, one way to overcome it is to copy the Zipped file over to a Windows environment and extract them, and copy them back to the Mac environment.

Stuffit Expander is still free—http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/stuffitexpander.html
I am re-downloading the Greek.zip first file as the videos are out of synch. Anyone else had this issue?

What do you mean by "out of synch"?
I did notice that the speaker on the Greek videos seemed to have a Donald Duck quality to his voice, as when a recording is replayed slightly faster than the record speed, but for me it was not terribly distracting.
Jack,
Great hearing from you ... basically, the lips do not match the words that I am hearing ... it seems to only be associated with 1-13. I tried to re-download, but that did not help.
By the way, have you used the videos in teh classroom?
I have watched about 8 of the revised Greek videos with no problems. I am running Windows 7 x64, and they play in Windows Media Player.
Make absolutely sure your operating system, video drivers, and media/video player are on the latest version. I suspect that the files are fine and something on your computer is causing the problem.
the lips do not match the words that I am hearing
I have not noticed that in my installation (Mac OS 10.5, Quick Time Player).
have you used the videos in teh classroom?
No, I haven't. If I were teaching the use of Logos Greek tools, I would probably prefer to digest the material and teach it myself. I dislike playing videos for a class.
How do you order the DVD? I haven't heard anything from LOGOS about replacements being available?
There was an email sent out by Logos on the 19th with the title: Updated Videos Now Available - Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software
I found it in my Spam folder, I use yahoo mail. There is an email address provided that you have to send an email request to for your DVD.
I found it in my Spam folder,
Me too.
I use Thunderbird.
Did you get a response, confirmation after you emailed to have the DVDs sent to you? I am asking because the first thing I did was send an email as requested to have DVDs shipped to me as well. But I wonder if there is any confirmation sent or do we wait until the end of December, when if we did not receive the DVDs...we need to follow up on it. And what if that happens and it is passed December 3? I just wish Logos would be wise and just plan on sending the DVD to everyone who ordered the product in the first place.
No problem to extract my 3 zip files here. I downloaded Hebrew file 3 times however. It was my mistake thou. I always forgot I am downloading and closed the notebook [:(]. It do not support continuation of the partially downloaded file. I think It should with that size of the files.

That's a function not of Logos's website or the way the files were hosted there, but how you downloaded them, which is probably the built-in download utility of of your OS or your browser. There are free third party download managers that handle picking up where you left off in a download, for future reference. Just google "download manager" resume, and you'll find some that support resuming where you left off. Logos could of course provide a download manager which we could download and use when downloading files from their site. But at present they don't.

Please, no! Not another 3rd party, vendor-specific download manager. I've got 3 from Microsoft, Adobe has one, Apple wants me to use one, ugh! I'm perfectly capable of using Free Download Manager on my own when I know I need it.

No, I don't want them to either. I guess I didn't word that very well. I was being a bit sarcastic.
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm taking the Thankful tack. The files are enormous and are highly dependent on a clean signal for the duration of your download. Hiccups in transmission might require another load. I've got a very high speed cable connection, and they took 30-60 minutes each...that's a huge opportunity for Mr. Murphy to make a visit to your download. At first mine were acting skittish, but once I pulled them out of the zip files and loaded them directly (uncompressed) onto my hard drive, I found they were far less squirrely. I do find that the third video has crashed Quicktime around 0:50 on four occasions, but if I pull the place marker past that 0:50 point, I have no crashes. I've watched thru the first 5, but had to leave my computer for a family visit out of town for Thanksgiving. (sniff, sniff)
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, let's remember that our bretheren at Logos are trying to satisfy the demands of we (US?) instantaneous types, raised in the world of microwaves. Think about how amazing it is (despite the goofiness) and the cost of delivery is negligible. You had HD-quality video at near-real time demand. Thank you, Father, for the Internet. I am learning to read Your Word in the original languages while sitting in the home You provided me, and with a great cloud of witnesses in the Logos Forums! What a great BLESSING!

And ... always Joy in the Lord! *smile*
This Canadian thanks you -- as well as the Lord! -- on this your National Day of Thanksgiving for such a positive and insightful post! Even a bit of good humour there also!
God has done a good job on you! *smile*
Yes, I am very grateful to LOGOS in providing a means to utilize technology to help me study GOD's Word! And I hope that I am always a grateful person. The Learn to Use Greek and Hebrew video series is something that I have always wanted! I do look forward to the replacement DVD's, as the downloads were corrupted, even after downloading twice.
Paul
Any idea on when these replacement DVD's will be sent? I know that we had to reply to Logos before the 3rd of December or sometime in that vicinity, so I'm guessing that they now have a listing of who wants replacement DVD's.
I had read that they were going to be sent out the middle of December, which it is as of tomorrow.........
I hope so. Even though I have a fast Internet connection, I ordered the replacement DVDs and haven't attempted the download.
I just received my replacement DVD's in this morning's mail. So far, I've only gone through the lesson on the Greek Alphabet. The quality seems considerably better than the previous release. Thank You Logos!!!!
I just received my replacement DVD's
I started watching on windows media player "Intro to Greek" and at 1.20, widows media player encountered a problem and had to close. I cannot play the intro passed 1.20. Anyone else encounter this problem?
Same here. I did a little research.
Windows Media crashes at 1:20 for me too (Windows 7 x64, but using x32 Windows Media player). I also tried iTunes and QuickTime player to play it, and both are fine, playing past 1:20 with no problem.
I did see when iTunes and QuickTime play it, that at 1:20 there is some artifacting under Johnny's chin, right side as you look at it, right at 1:20. I suspect this artifacting or defect in the video is crashing Windows Media but the other two handle it well - or maybe whatever is wrong they handle with some slight artifacting, and WMP crashes? I leave that to the experts. But there is some issue at 1:20 to be sure...
I too have this problem, however it is with the old DVD's as well as the other problems. Are you saying that the new DVD'd have this problem too? Oh No!!!
Are you saying that the new DVD'd have this problem too?
The problem I refer too is from the new DVD's just received in the mail. I have only tried the intro course and found the problem immediately.
I received the replacement DVD's today and I too found the problem with the Greek Intro video....Any resolution to this yet?
The workaround seems to be to download the quicktime plugin and play the video in quicktime. Hopefully the issue is only with the one file.
I have notified Logos's Kent Hendricks about the problem and he'll be looking into it.
Thank you!
I was able to confirm that Windows Media Player 12 does crash at that spot. We are looking into what is going on there. In the meantime you can just click the timeline a couple seconds ahead of where it crashes and the video will keep playing.
In the meantime, I do recommend QuickTime and you are able to see the chapter divisions in QuickTime.
Addition: Working on a fix for WMP12. This is the first time we've heard of this particular issue. We want to make sure that it works for both players.
A temporary workaround for WMP12 users:
1. If you see a pop up box saying, "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file."
2. Click "Close"
3. Click on the timeline of the video just after the point it stopped playing. (This is the blue "progress indicator" that appears just over the controls when you float your cursor over the video)
4. Click the Play button.
Update:
After reviewing the videos here is what we have found:
1. The Hebrew disc appears unaffected. All the videos play fine regardless of the media player.
2. The error pops up on the following videos on the Greek disc - 1,3,15,27,30.
3. The workaround mentioned above works for those videos.
more info to follow.
Reuben
I for one appreciate very much your follow up on this and also for giving us information on other videos affected. This saves much frustration.
Mark
No problem, Mark.
We have re-transcoded the files and the error message is gone. Once fully tested, we will be posting new versions of these 5 videos for download, but keep in mind - it might take a few days.
My downloads went well. The files unpacked well except for the last two in the Hebrew folder. Unzip could not unpack them - corrupt files? I sent Logos an e-mail and am waiting for a response.
I have been watching for a posting of the 5 corrected files, but have not seen them. Have they been released? If so, where can I find them?
Go to your account and look at your Orders page. Scroll down to Order History to find the original order, "Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software" and click on the order number. At the new page, scroll down to find the orange download buttons. If the page looks strange in IE, use compatability mode.

Are these the updates since the second set of DVDs went out? How do you know, they don't have a date? I did not see any announcement either, and these do not seem to match the titles that needed to be corrected the second time.
Yes, on January 3rd Reuben Evans said: "We have re-transcoded the files and the error message is gone. Once fully tested, we will be posting new versions of these 5 videos for download, but keep in mind - it might take a few days." I did the download from my orders page a week or so ago and found the same lessons had the same problem. I would rather not do a massive download every couple of weeks to see if the 5 files in question are fixed. I am just trying to find out the status of these 5 files that were referenced on January 3rd, how to know when they are ready, and how to locate them for downloading. Thanks.
Rueben
Since you are the one representing Logos who let us know that the new files were being tested and would be posted, can you please confirm that the new files are ready to be downloaded. I think some of us do not wish to hear from anyone but you or another Logos representative. If Reuben is not available, perhaps another official can comment? Rosie, you are always helpful and I want to make sure I write that. But in this case, it is Rueben or another official that needs to inform us who purchased the product, that the second fix was applied and ready to be downloaded. We should receive an email about it. We should not have to be discussing this on the forum.
Hello,
Any news on the re-transcoded files?
Where are the current download files and what is the cost to simply order the DVDs? (I already purchased the product).
Jason! *smile*
Peace to you!
My replacement DVD's were free; and they were delivered to me without asking because that seems to be what Logos did to those living outside the United States.
It is my understanding that for those living within the United States -- that they were required send an e-mail requesting the replacement DVD's .........
To download again, .............. go to your orders ................ find THAT particular order .............. click on the order number ......
then, go down a ways, and you will see the download options...
A few forum users did have problems with the zip files; but many did not. You may desire to search for that very large thread...
Blessings and
Joy in the Lord Always!
