I am using Logos 4.1 SR-4 (4.10.4.6514). For sometime I was doing a lot of study in the NT and had created a layout specific to that purpose. I then switched to a study of Daniel. When I open the layout now it does open, but then freezes. Mark Barnes said I should time it. Well, at 30 minutes I gave up. Part of this layout included bible versions NKJV, NAS, ESV, NLT, NET, NRSV, LEB, HDNT (ESV), NIV, NA27. Also had some commentaries and dictionaries. My "trip" into Daniel started as just a lookup, but has turned into a large study.
I thought Logos 4 had solved the problem of switching to the other testament that plagued Libronix. I think I'll create a new layout for OT study and see if that helps. Thanks.

What are your machine specs?

I had a similar problem, which was aggravated by having many resources open, also by having them linked. See http://community.logos.com/forums/t/25405.aspx
Dave Hooton walked me through to finding a solution to the problem
Hi Bruce,
30 minutes is obviously not right. Can I clarify one thing: Does the freeze occur when you load your layout, or when you move from the NT to the OT within your layout?
In order to determine the problem, I think we'll ideally need to see a screenshot of the layout (http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot). We'll also need to see logs (see 'how to ask for help' below). Hopefully then we'll get to the bottom of it for you.
Mark

This will also happen on "fast" machines if there are a lot of linked resources.

The freeze occurs after the layout is loaded. Computer information:Fujitsu LifeBook Series(Build: 24SEN3-MS--1)Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9600. 2.80GHzRam: 2.00 GB (1.98 GB usable)32 Bit
It finishes loading like this, but is totaly frozen.
Bruce,
The layout is not so complex that it should freeze (though it's theoretically possible that one of your searches that we can't see is executing a super-intensive search and causing the problem). But unfortunately the log doesn't help. It terminates before the 'freeze'. Can I ask you to:
Thanks.
Mark,
Thanks much for your help. This layout seems like a big problem. When I use another one the freezing doesn't occur. I've attached the log.I followed your instructions exactly. I'm starting to think that I will just have to delete the layout and use another one. I would like to know if there is a way to modify the layout from the command line.5315.Logos4-2010.11.27.zip
Thanks again and God bless,Bruce Lundquist
I wonder if there is a problem with NKJV as it is not showing Interlinear rows in your layout image. Open L4 to a Blank layout and open NKJV into a tab at Daniel 7. Restart L4. Upload logs after the restart or after a problem.
Bruce Lundquist:I would like to know if there is a way to modify the layout from the command line.
No. You have to start from a blank layout.

I'm coming to the same conclusion, again the logs are no help unfortunately. However, Dave's theory about the NKJV interlinear might be worth pursuing. It's theoretically possible that there's some problem with displaying the interlinear in Dan 7 (perhaps an issue with the Aramaic?)
This is very strange. I was following Dave's instructions when the thought occurred to me to look at my old layouts and pick one that is essentially the one that caused the problem in the first place. It opened right away with no problems. It is Dan 7:1 and NKJV shows interlinear. I will investigate more later, and report my findings. Thanks much.
I venture it has less Search windows!
Nope. Same number. That's the strange part. I wish I could compare them both as far as components. I had another interesting experience. The layout that I said was good, I saved it with the name "Bible Reader-good." I then exited Logos, and when I reopened and chose the saved Bible Reader-good it froze. I saved the log and is named "Logos4-20101128-1.zip." I then closed Logos by the Task Manager. I then reopened it and chose the unnamed layout that is exactly the same from the list of layouts. It opened normally and I was able to scroll, and viiew everything. That log is named "Logos4-20101128-2-good.zip." I hope all this helps.Thanks.7522.Logos4-20101128-1.zip7446.Logos4-20101128-2-good.zip
Interesting. The freeze log gets to LibraryCatalogIndex Searching for all records matching: Series:"Early Church Fathers" and does not process the Visual filters and Search panels.
We'll see what Logos make of it.
