Hello All,

I got a little bit confused with the latest Logos Blog post about the new NIV 2011. I would like to know if someone knows what is happening, or, what is going to happen. I have recently posted an issue related to the NIV Bibles on Logos (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28822.aspx). But my question here is not directly related to that post, although some people contributed to what I am questioning here.

My question is about what is going to happen to our NIV Bibles. I guess, part of my confusion is that Logos is claiming to give away the new NIV 2011 to all of us. At some point they say:

"Instead of charging for it, we’ve decided to make it available free of charge—a value of nearly $27.00"

Does it mean that we are going to have two NIV Bibles? Are we going to have the NIV 1984 RI and the NIV 2011 non interlinear? That is the way I have in my resources now. I have the NIV 1984 with only N.T. interlinear, and I have the NIV 2011 but not interlinear at all.

So, some questions I have are:

- Are we (those who purchase Logos 4 a while ago), stay with both version of NIV (1984 and 2011)?

- Is the NIV 1984 going to be fully RI?

- Will not the NIV 2011 be RI?

I don't think that Logos will terminate the NIV 1984, otherwise they would not be giving for free the NIV 2011, they would be just replacing one for another. Is that right?

Thanks!

if you have the NIV 1984, you will still have it in your library.  The NIV 2011 will also be there.

If you had a collection with NIV84 in it than with the upgrade mentioned in the blog post you will also gain the NIV2011 as well making 2 NIV's your own.  :-)

The end goal is for both of them to be full RI as well.

It's not Logos that will/might/would terminate the NIV84, that would be Zondervan who owns the copyright.  Whether or not they actually will remains to  be seen and speculation is pointless.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Here's what I know:

They are going to finish the RI work on the NIV 1984 before updating that for the NIV 2011.

Yes, the NIV 2011 will eventually have RI as well, and you'll get that automatically when it's ready.

The NIV 1984 will remain in your Library if you had it already, but Logos no longer sells it.

Logos won't give everyone the NIV 2011 for free. They just gave it as a free crossgrade to those who already owned a package that included the old NIV. Those who did the free crossgrade will get to keep the NIV 1984 in addition to the NIV 2011. What a deal!

Yes, those of us who already have the NIV84 RI will keep it, and the NIV OT RI will be finished for the NIV84. Then the NIV2011 will also get an RI (based on the work done for the NIV84, since they are almost 95% identical).

In keeping with their agreement with Zondervan, Logos is no longer authorized to sell (or give away) the NIV84. Personal opinions aside (and I have them too), this is not a Logos decision, so if you don't like it, take it up with Zondervan, not with Logos, nor with us forum users.

When you get the updated version your NIV84 will be renamed to The New International Version (1984); short name NIV84. The new NIV will be named The New International Version; short name: NIV. That seemed confusing to me, but one of the nice things about Logos is that you can rename books as well as their short names. So, I renamed the NIV84 to The New International Version; short name: NIV, and the NIV2011 to The New International Version (2011); short name NIV11.

More specifically, to those who already own a Logos 4 base package (with the NIV). If you hadn't already upgraded to a Logos 4 collection ("LE" series), you would need to pay for the new Logos 4 content as part of the upgrade to "KF" (which is essentially LE + new NIV; see http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28219.aspx for the full details).

Greak,

Everything is crystal clear now. Thank you very much all of you for taking the time to explain it.

I have the L4 Platimun. What do I do to get the NIV 2011? I tried clicking the link at the upgrade page for Plat but it said my library was up to date (but without the 2011).

Hi John,

You should be able to go to the logos web site and purchase the upgrade. http://www.logos.com/upgrade

It was free but I had to go through the checkout process.

NIV 2011 has yellow cover:

If both NIV bibles not in library, wonder about update resources command or quitting and launching Logos 4 ?

I had some trouble too, but have both now in my library, but the new NIV interlinears is a different matter. When I open the NIV 1984 it shows up on the bar, but when I click on the interleniair it doesn't open up and it is not there on the bar of the 2011 one. I've tried with the command bar the update resources, but nothing is happening. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to solve this?

NIV 1984 has interlinear for NT only so far. So if you happen to be in an OT book, clicking the interlinear button will do nothing.

The 2011 NIV does not have interlinear at all yet, so you shouldn't expect to see a toolbar button for that yet. It will show up when the interlinear is implemented sometime in the future.

Logos has told us they will be completing the OT interlinear for NIV 1984 before bringing the interlinear data up-to-date for NIV 2011.

Thanx Rosie, that helps, I was indeed looking in the old testament, but it does work for the NT, so it is now wait and see when Logos witl have completeed the OT.
