I have searched far and wide for the answer to this question - How can I force L4 to create a Layout of my current environment? I get things set up the way I want and I can't make L4 update my layout. If I exit and come back it doesn't reflect the last environment. Without being able to do this - it makes relaunching Logos very frustrating - everything from the last session is lost. I know there has to be a way to do this but it's just not very intuitive. Please help.

Thanks

-Mike

Click on the Layout Menu and the little pencil to the right of Snapshot. Now type a name for your layout. That's all there is to it.

Jack - it's not a matter of how to name the layout once it appears - the issue is - I can't seem to force Logos to create a Layout in a timely manner - it takes its time to create one in the list that I can then rename. I want to be able to at a point in time - say "Save Current Layout" and it appear in the list - then do the steps you mentioned to name it what I want to name it. There seems to be no control over when and how the layouts are generated. Hope that helps clarify the issue.

Thanks

-Mike

Graham - the link you mentioned is for the Windows product - none of those options are the same for the MAC version.

Thanks

I think I found it - if you Right Click on an already created Layout - there is an Update Option - that will at least update the Layout that you have created to reflect the current layout.

Still not sure how to cause that Update feature to happen so you can create a brand new layout from the current environment - in the meantime - this will work.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

Mike

Sorry about that - I had hoped that there would be other commonality for it to be useful!

When Logos 4 has been open for awhile, clicking Layouts causes a time snapshot to be taken that becomes part of menu on right side - have option to click pencil to name layout (if type name same as previously used, effectively updates previous named layout).  If Layouts clicked few minutes apart with no changes, only time is changed under recent snapshot

Currently, Logos 4 does not display layout name along with not having keyboard shortcut to update - been suggested => http://community.logos.com/forums/t/7566.aspx

Hi Mike

This is a bit strange. When I make a major change to a layout - open a panel - resize a window of frame etc the latest arrangement is reflected in the 'Now' layout at the top of the window pretty much instantaneously.

Are you saying that your 'Now' layout is lagging behind reality by a significant amount?

If you click to edit the name of the 'Now' layout does it not jump to reflect the current layout?

Yeah Mike - that's what happens - the Now Layout sometimes doesn't appear for hours. I tried opening new panels, changing the layout - nothing seems to trigger it. I can't seem to find any common denominator as to when the Now Layout gets generated. I do float most of my panels and I use Size Up to set window placement - I don't think that would be a factor - although I'm not sure.

Thanks for the follow-up

I have not experienced that sort of delay. Therefore, I misunderstood you question.

As do I - I think as the windows experience wears off more and more users will be doing this and there will be demands to make the box header into some sort of Inspector type window - but that is by the by - I don't think floating windows will be the cause of the problem but...

Mike Strawn:
I use Size Up to set window placement

seems to be the odd factor here

Have you tried not using it and seeing what happens?

Logos: wonder if dragging resources within a window or copying panel to another tab has any affect on Now layout ?

Observation: Mac OS X Lion (10.7) ships later this year with ability to resize any window by dragging any edge (original 1984 Mac window sizing convention goes away).
