    Great blog Mark!

New site for your Logos4 Unofficial videos too. i like it, it is very clean and easy to use.

EDIT: Mark, do i need to change the links for your videos on the wiki to your new site?
i see you already fixed most of them, i went through and updated ones that you missed.

    Hi Mark

Apologies if this shows up under Jayson's comment rather than as a separate thread comment to the topic, but I have a question:

Mark's blog is based on someone who hasn't totally messed up his default settings for Logos 4 while bumbling around doing his own thing.  I, unfortunately am a bumbler, so my results when I type something in the Go bar don't look anything like Mark's example.  I only have one window that opens on the left side, giving search results by "Topic", "My Content", and "Library Results".

How does a bumbler go about resetting his default settings to yield the results in Mark's explanation?

i am having a difficult time imagining what you are seeing, could you post a screenshot? (see this on how to do it, http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot )

Perhaps you have a custom Passage Guide named My Passage Guide and Logos 4 is using it.

I don't think you have messed up any settings--it sounds like you typed your search in the command box at the top of the page instead of the Go box.  They do different things.  The command box executes a simple search if it doesn't recognized the input as a command.  The Go box is the one that opens up all the windows.

Make sure you use the Go box to follow Mark's example:

Edit: I see you solved it.

Here's what I was seeing.  I played around to see if my search was what caused the problem, and it appears that it was.  My search term was "Judges", because I'm writing on the theme of the book of judges.  When I changed the search to a passage from Judges (1:1-8), I did get the view described.

So, problem solved, but I thought I'd post my results in case there's another novice out there struggling.  Thanks for asking the question to get me thinking!  This has been a very helpful forum the few times I've used it.  Maybe I ought to ask more questions, and do less bumbling? [:$]

Oops...  Screenshot showed up in the reply dialog box, but not in the post.  Here it is:

    Mark:

Thanks for your help.  I had discovered that the Go box and the command box yielded different results.  However, I think my problem was that my search in the Go box was too vague...is that correct?

    Greg,

When you type in the Go box Logos 4 will show you a drop down list of what it thinks you are looking for as shown below

    image

So if you typed Judges and pressed Enter, then Logos 4 used what was highlighted in the drop down list.
EDIT: this is why the Search window appeared instead of the Go window results. (please read Todd's reply below)

So if you typed Judges and pressed Enter, then Logos 4 used what was highlighted in the drop down list.

If you select the second item in the list, "Judges", it will open up a study (with all the expected windows) on the book of Judges.  However I would advise you to NOT do that--it will try to run a passage guide and an exegetical guide on the entire book of Judges, plus it will load the entire book of Judges into the text comparison window for each of your top Bible versions, and will take a long time to do that.

The Go box is best for smaller passages--definitely not whole books.

Great advice. i was only trying to explain to Greg why the search window appeared instead of the default Go results window.

Thanks for making this clear for Greg!

Oh yes, I understand.  I was actually speaking to Greg in that post, but it looked like I was speaking to you.

    All:

Great info!  Thanks, you've helped a LOT in a short period.  I've been using Logos for several months now, but I certainly haven't been using it well.  I have ordered a user's guide to resolve that.  But until that arrives, and in preparation for the paper due this weekend, this has helped me enormously to understand how the tool works.
