I enthusiastically donwloaded and installed Logos 4 yesterday, and after leaving the computer to download and index overnight have tried to use it today - but it crashes whenever I try to do anything more than look at the home page. I get a Windows box saying 'Logos Bible Software 4 has stopped working. A problem caused the program ot stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'.
For information, I've tried with both Firefox and IE8 as default browsers; I'm running a fully updated Vista installation on a PC well above the minimum specification, with over 70 GB free after installation and indexing.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks.
Nick Watson
Same problem here, only I'm on XP.
Nick,
This is possibly a homepage bug....
Do this:
shut down Logos.
As you click the button to launch...hold down Ctrl until you see the screen "logging in" and there will be a small check box to choose.."open to a blank layout" or something similar....that will force Logos to open without opening the homepage.
Once Logos is open...then use the "update now" command in the command bar and wait to see if you might not have gotten all of the updates.
Also, after you launch to a blank layout, can you go to "help" >about and then post your "version number? That might be a good source of info...

Thanks - I've now tried that, opening to a blank page. The 'version number' is SR-2 (4.0.3.2368).
I then tried the 'update now' command, and before I'd even pressed return I had the same crash.
Any further ideas...?
Nick
No...no further ideas...this sounds like one for the Logos support staff.
Robert - thanks for trying!
Can you enable logging and post your logs for Logos? To enable logging here is what a Logos rep said in another thread:
Logging is disabled by default... To turn it on (or off), run:
Enable logging then start Logos. When it crashes check your Documents directory for a Logos Log Files folder. Zip the folder and upload it to this post or email it to Logos support with a description of your problem. That should help them figure out what is causing the crash.
Chris,
Thanks - I've just finished a long but very helpful phone conversation with Logos tech support, which identified the problem as a conflict with Nokia Phone suite (version 7). With this deactivated, Logos is running fine so far...
OK, I spoke too soon... I'll take your advice and send the logfile to Logos support. Thanks!

You may post the log in this thread, or start a new one. Include reproduction steps preferably in a numerical list fashion, thanks.
Lourens: Same problem here, only I'm on XP.
You may also follow Chris's link for the EnableLogging.js file and post the logs here, or start a new thread, the logs are necessary for us. Thanks
Sorry - how do I upload the log file?
Thanks
NickWatson: Sorry - how do I upload the log file? Thanks Nick
When posting to this thread if you click on the 'Options' green button, you should see a form allowing you to upload a single file. You may zip the directory and upload that.

Thanks for the advice!
This was the log file from the last time I tried to use the programme.

Hi Nick, thanks for the log. Can you post the steps you took to reproduce this crash? I'm guessing you can reproduce it every time.
George,
This time it was building a passage guide on Philippians 4:4-7, when I asked it for 'more' commentaries. It seems to happen at other times as well.
The conversation I had earlier was referenced as case 49473 if that helps!

Hi a fix for this was committed and it should appear in a future release. Sorry for the inconvenience but thanks for helping us find this obscure bug!
Updating - my laptop has just done a 550MB download, and Logos now seems to be working ok. I'm not sure I'll risk it with the Nokia app just yet, though!
I'll post again if the problem recurs - thanks for all the advice and help.
OK, spoke too soon again...
It got a lot further this time, and I was searching the library for a lectionary when it crashed.
I'll try disabling all the Nokia software at startup, but not until tomorrow now. Any ideas, anyone?
