When I opened LOGOS 4 this evening, I received a surprise - I was informed that I had not yet upgraded to LOGOS 4?

How do I upgrade from Logos 4 to Logos 4 for $630 - the upgrade page says I can upgrade from Platinum to Portfolio for $2340?  It would be nice, but it ain't so.

Blessings,
Floyd

Perhaps the Logos staff had one too many brews that day. They were tripping over themselves to get those announcements out. Sounds like the actions of a (slightly) tipsy crew.

Seriously, it sounds like a glitch in their detection software. Smile

I received the same message, and I already have Portfolio.

Interesting new popup messages, since I bypass the homepage on opening. I guess they really want to get the message out!
Lots of people said they missed the sale on Logos4 when it first came out, so I think they are just wanting everyone to know that prices are going up. Some users might get a bit upset if they missed the announcement, especially if they intended to upgrade.

It would make more sense if it indicated a Library upgrade instead of a Logos 4 (software) upgrade, implying I'm still on L3!

I get both an invit to upgrade my library, which I've done, and an invit to upgrade to L4, which I did approximately when it first came out!

Pictures on both, and sometimes a popup as well.

Well, I thought I had successfully ostracized myself from Logos, what with cookies-off and javascript-off on the web and no internet for L4. That was before I walked out to the street to pick up the mail. Logos definitely has a marketing team.

I know (or guess) their business model (like most Bible software co's these days) is level-based. The problem with that type of approach in a religious world, is that the next 'level' just means upgrading to someone's beliefs (no offense intended).

Most of my bucks now are going into hardcopy, since pre-pub doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Hardcopy's a real pain though.

What do you MEAN by saying you want to see an OT peshitta? Oh, and I guess you want a latin "dictionary" too? Or maybe 'coptic' to go with your coptic NT? Oh, and you say you want a greek dictionary for the apostolic father period. Where will it end??

I am assuming you mean Pre-Pub isn't going anywhere you want to go.  The actual productivity from the publishing department has hit that "drinking from a firehose" level.

Yes, I want a Peshitta, and the Oxford Latin Dictionary,. and Crum's Coptic Dictionary, and Samaritan Pentateuch, and Mennonite works, and Stone-Campbell works, and LOEB library, and Japanese Bibles, and Paul Tillich, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and, and .........and...

Adam,

Just  to be sure on this issue, are you saying that all that was meant by the popup was that the discounted package prices will end after the 30th and that nothing else will happen to the L4 package that one already has?  I got the impression that since I already have the a L4 package and if I don't act by the 30th I would loose something in performance.

Gotcha, SuperTramp.

Like you, I know when I go to Wallyworld, I'm not looking for anything I need. And no expectation for having made the trip.

Larry -

You have nothing to worry about unless you are wanting to upgrade your base package. If so, you may want to consider doing so before the 30th. You will not lose anything on October 1st.

Larry,

Alabama24 is correct (Thanks Alabama!). Unless you are wanting to upgrade, you have nothing to worry about. You will not lose anything come October. The only thing that will change is that the upgrade discounts are going away.

Thank you to both Alabama24 and Adam for clarifying the issue for me.

Not trying to stir any pots with this, but the decision to do away with upgrade discounts at this time, in the current economy, seems odd to me. I understand that all good things come to an end, but ending the discounts in these particular times doesn't make much economic sense. I can't imagine Logos expects to sell as many or more upgrade packages under the new pricing schemes as they do now.

For what it's worth,

Bill

I was thinking of upgrading to Portfolio until I received a couple of announcements I hadn't upgraded to Logos 4 and each one stated I might have to pay an additional amount to upgrade. Many of us are not on a book allowance and for me to upgrade it says it would cost $2340. and now you are going to charge even more. In my case that is over $6.50 for each book in the upgrade. Several of them I don't need because I already have them but it would be nice if I could get all of my books in Logos. At 78 and on a very limited income I really should stop buying books. I should have learned my lesson many years ago at the North American Christian Convention when Dale Pritchard talked me into buying Logos while I was a missionary in Japan. He said, "He would duplicate all the books I had in QuickVerse at that time" .....It never happened. It took me sometime to get ovser that but then I started building my Logos Library. Even yet it does not work like you say it will. I have many Libronix Disks that I have and yet Logos 4 does not pick them up. Example is "Ancient Christian Commentaries" . I called Logos and it took a couple hours to finally get it on Logos 4. I use two computers and I thought when I boot Logoss4 it would bring my library up to date. It doesn't. Some my properly registered books appear on one computer and not on the other. Now, you tell me it is even going to cost more to upgrade if I don't do it before Sept. 30????  I must say that your "Community Pricing" is GREAT! Every since my son introduced me back to LOGOS I have had opportunity to increase my library at a reasonable price. I also have finally figured out that my upgrade to Portfolio is not a special upgrade price for me but a general upgrade because many of the people I talk their upgrade is identical.

Hi Milton,

I can assure you it is not a general upgrade. My upgrade from plat to port is much cheaper than the current $2340 going with other users. The problem is I simply don't have the lower price being offered to me so I cannot upgrade at this time. But those prices reflect some secret deal that only Logos knows. I do see that price go down the more my purchase history on prepubs and cps go up. I will still upgrade to port at another time.

Milton try $2793 Crying

Actually I was wondering what they are going to replace the upgrade pricing with. I'm on logos 4 silver and at this point see no reason to upgrade right now. Well that's not totally true. I would love to upgrade to gold just for the UBS Handbooks. My upgrade price to gold is $361 which is cheaper than just the old or new testament UBS and the gold has both.

I just used a big chunk of my upgrade money on another project so I guess I'm out of luck. Only option is to pray that UBS goes on sale for some insane price.

Milton,

I think the costs going up are not unexpected but unfortunate for some who hoped they'd have a little bit more time to make the jump. The less time you've had since getting into Logos 4 the greater the disappointment might be.

I opted out of Portfolio not only because of the huge price step, but because many of the resources weren't that appealing. I could spend the over $2,000 on resources I really wanted.

There have been some good deals lately. There was a deal for the Word Biblical Commentary for $399, Hermeneia for $599, and just recently the New International Commentary (OT and NT) for $999. Logos also offered some real deals last Christmas (2010 books for $2010). While you may not be able to jump to Portfolio anymore there might still be some good offers on resources you'd enjoy coming down the line. I'm just suggesting that you may still build a wonderful library at a pretty good price but you'll have to do it in pieces.

I'm puzzled by the problems you are having with the Libronix resources and synching between your two computers. Your earlier disappointment with Logos is also not nice to hear. I have not had similar problems so count myself blessed on those points.

I'm not saying this on behalf of anyone but myself, but do pray that you are able to get Logos working to your satisfaction and will stick with the company.
