Bring The Complete Loeb Classical Library to Logos [:O]
Some volumes are already in Logos and can be found in the Perseus Classics Collection. Not sure which ones though, but they are there.
At $20 a volume though, the entire set of the LCL would be incredibly expensive for most people. It would still be awesome to have it though!
[Y] Yes, that would be great! But let us pick and choose more selectively among the volumes. The Perseus download overwhelmed most of us. Of course if we're having to pay for the volumes I'm sure we won't go downloading all however many volumes at once. But I'd recommend making several options of sub-collections, and have them be overlappping too, not just mutually exclusive the way most sub-collections in Logos are. For example, do one of all the Latin classics, one of all the Greek classics, and some smaller ones of all the works by each author, and perhaps some others of all the works grouped by century (here's the Loeb Timeline), and maybe even genre (history, drama, poetry, philosophy, religion, literary criticism, literary collections, nature/science/medical, social science, mathematics, foreign language study -- according to the categories assigned in http://www.hup.harvard.edu/resources/booksellers/downloads/Loeb.xls)
I do not think that will happen until Logos licenses to libraries. It would have been very helpful on a project a few years ago. However, I am not ready to mortgage my house to get the Complete Loeb Classical Library [:P]
P.S. I like your hommage to the departed Léopold Sédar Senghor
This has been discussed earlier - you might find the thread at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/110.aspx interesting
Graham
Ah my friend, you've blown my cover. I would count that Leopold Sedar Gnilane Senghor (sorry I don't know how to insert the accent aigu) would be pleased that he has been recognized. Perhaps you will offer the sweet meat of knowledge to assuage the sting of revealing my silent tribute. As for this topic, the LCL. Is anything to big for God? Has He not said, ask and it shall be given you?... I believe Logos would swiftly accommodate its adoring customers if there were an outpouring of interest. And Graham, I do apologize for not better vetting this suggestion before posting. However, a refocus, as long as it doesn't kindle a firestorm of contention will be happily received. Logos is very creative and guided by anointed leadership. Therefor, I see nothing but opportunity and grace to bring this to an ever advancing market. Please support this suggestion with prayer and importunity.
