I created a Greek PB (Early Church Fathers in Greek). Now that the bug which would cause Logos to crash when I right-clicked on a word is fixed (thanks for that quick turnaround, Bradley!), there's still a big problem:

The  Perseus Web Lookup command is not available on the right-click menu:

It is available in Logos edition Greek books:

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Some special tagging I need to put in, in order for this to work just like a Logos edition Greek book?

** Also the lexicon section is missing on my right-click menu, and instead I have a bunch of Bible Word Study links. But this isn't set up as a Bible. I've set it up as an Ancient Manuscript. (I had tried it as Monograph before, but thought maybe Ancient Manuscript would do the trick, but it didn't seem to make any difference.)

Silly question, but sometimes the obvious is overlooked....did you set the language of your PB to be Greek?

I also noticed that there's no Lemma tab on the right side of the right-click menu. I learned from the wiki that  "The ‘Lemma’ tab in the (right-click) context menu is not currently supported."

Does this mean it will be supported someday? I hope so. PB's should be able to completely mimic the functionality of Logos native books.

Yup.

That value just controls the Language displayed in the Library Catalog. You also need to ensure that Greek text is tagged as Greek in the Word document itself. (Review > Language > Set Language.)

A Greek book similar to the one you made would be, for example The Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts.  A right click on a manuscript word would provide a link to an exegetical lexicon (but not a lexicon like BDAG).  I imagine, but don't know, some hands-on work would have to take place to make an association of the manuscript word and the lemma. You can do the same thing in your book manually, by right clicking on a word and copying it and then pasting it into the reference box of an exegetical lexicon.  I would hope that Logos causes the manual process to become automatic in a right click at some point.  I don't have the same expectation for the software to "know" what the lemma is of a particular word in a Greek PB.  (But my knowledge of this is limited :-)

Edit: I didn't see Bradley's response until after I posted.  I would be interested in knowing the outcome of this.

Thanks! That helped a lot! Now how can I make the Bible Word Study menu item appear when I right click on a Greek word? I tried putting in a tag [[@GreekStrongs:G1322]] before the Greek word διδαχή for example. That did have the effect of causing a Greek Strongs # tab to appear in the right-click menu, but I can't do a BWS directly from that either. Is that where the missing Lemma tab comes in? Is there any way to tag a PB with lemma tags? (That would be a lot of work, and I don't know Greek well enough to do it, but I'm trying to replicate the functionality that this PBB had in L3 for Robert Booth. See this thread.)

Hmm. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, nor how it would help.

I've got a book that is all Greek text. I want to be able to easily do a BWS on any word in this book. Are you suggesting that I should embed hyperlink tags in the PB with that BWS URL customized for every single word in the book? Like this (first four words of 1 Clement 1:1):

[[Ἡ >> logos4:Guide;t=Bible_Word_Study;lemma=fr$2Fel$2F$E1$BC$A4]] [[εκκλησια >> logos4:Guide;t=Bible_Word_Study;hw=$CE$B5$CE$BA$CE$BA$CE$BB$CE$B7$CF$83$CE$B9$CE$B1;lang=en-US]] [[τοῦ θεοῦ >> logos4:Guide;t=Bible_Word_Study;lemma=fr$2Fel$2F$CE$B8$CE$B5$CF$8C$CF$82]]

Besides making the Word document completely unreadable by a human being, that seems like an awful lot of tedious work for what I'm hoping to get out of it, which might be the occasional curiosity click on a word here or there. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your suggestion. If so, please explain.

Not yet implemented. I know that:

  • A Greek/Hebrew word used as a label will allow BWS from "Selection" (but you have to click the word in BWS box to get the lemma)
  • A Greek/Hebrew lemma in the text will allow a lexicon lookup from "Selection"

But i can't get a word to allow both BWS and lemma lookup

If use Word 2010 hyperlinks, the BWS links disappear from view.   With lots of words, not sure if embedding hyperlink is worth effort.  Suspect a macro could be written to find greek words, then add BWS hyperlink, which would be faster than lots of tedius work.  Other option is copy lemma in Personal Book, then paste inot BWS in Logos 4.

By the way, the Greek document looks like => The Apostolic Fathers Greek-English Interlinear that has lemma along with morphological tagging and more:

Adding PB syntax for lemma (and morph) tagging is not currently planned.
