Looking at the HP Folio 13 - http://shopping1.hp.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WW-USSMBPublicStore-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductUUID=JGMQ7EN5nSIAAAE0znpUKk.p&CatalogCategoryID=S_oQ7hab8uEAAAE0E94RNCUD&JumpTo=OfferList
Any comments as to how it would handle Logos? It is the most (by far) resource hungry app I will be running on the machine. I travel a lot so the weight is very attractive.
Thanks all
Unless you run layouts with 50 tabs or more open and have them all tied together, while running other programs in the background, Logos should fly. The SSD Harddrive will really make a difference. I would recommend you increase the Ram if possible.
Thanks.
Based on what I'm being told by HP is that theoretically it can be upgraded to 8GB but the extra power consumption would be make it ineligible for Ultrabook status.
Looking at the HP Folio 13
Look at other Ultrabooks that offer a faster i5 processor and 6 GB memory and 256 GB SSD. Do you need W7 Pro?
Dave - I see the Toshiba Portege with the 6GB RAM - and it's a little lighter too. I haven't found any with the larger SSD yet. Could you point me in the right direction?
I haven't found any with the larger SSD yet.
They are available in Australia so they should be found in the catalogue of manufacturers like Samsung, Toshiba, HP & Acer.
Google for
ultrabook 256GB SSD
Personally living and learning that Apple does not offer all refurbished MacBook Air models in all countries. The US web store includes refurbished July 2011 models => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_air that are not offered by Apple for purchase in Australia nor New Zealand.
For shopping comparison, suggest checking MacBook Air pricing since Intel needed to subsidize start up costs for other ultrabook manufacturers, followed by marketing assistance to lower ultrabook price.
Noticed HP Folio 13 has $ 1,349 price (US), same as a refurbished 13" MacBook Air => http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC966LL/A that has more storage (256 GB SSD), faster CPU (1.7 GHz i5), more pixels (1440 x 900), and bit lighter (2.98 pounds) than HP Folio 13 (128 GB SSD,1.6 GHz i5, 1366 x 768, and 3.3 pounds).
For $ 1,439, Apple has a faster 1.8 GHz i7 MacBook Air => http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0ME0LL/A (my personal top choice for an ultrabook to use with Logos 4 today).
By the way, Apple refurbished models have same warranty as new.
Anticipating MacBook Air model refreshes later this year (with lower prices for older models); dreaming of a couple hardware improvements (more RAM plus a touch screen), but have no idea what to expect. Also reading some rumors about 15" MacBook Air.
Caveat: Logos 4 Mac lacks several features in Logos 4 Windows; wiki Mac and PC User Interface Differences => Feature Parity
